Travel Guide: Florida - Top Outdoor Activities
Biking Trails
For those nature-lovers who love to spend their time outdoors exercising, jump on a bike and follow one of the state’s many bicycle trails. An activity for all ages, biking offers a unique vantage point of the state’s native flora and fauna. Not all trails are paved or manicured, but each one provides riders with beautiful view. Get away from the crowds of the city and closer to nature on a bike ride through the woods. And if it’s exercise you’re looking for, you could also take a jog outdoors and enjoy the blue skies.
Hiking Trails
Try exploring Florida on foot. Grab your backpack and spend a weekend in the woods to get away from it all. The state features many hiking and backpacking trails that offer up great views of Florida’s unique scenery.
Horseback Riding
Or, if hiking’s not your thing, hop on a horse and take a ride through the forest. There are several stables throughout the state from which you can rent a horse, and this activity is appropriate for young or old, novice or expert.
Bird Watching
While visiting the great outdoors, you may find the time to bird watch. Florida is a popular spot to observe various bird species, and as such it features a number of sites designated for birding. Don’t forget to pack your binoculars to get the most out of your experience.
Hunting and Fishing
Fishing in Florida is phenomenal. Whether fishing from a boat, a pier or in deep water, you’re sure to do well. Both saltwater and freshwater fishing is possible here, and both types of fishing tempt fishermen from all over. Hunting is another leisure activity that has found popularity in Florida. However, a large number of the state’s animals are endangered species, so make sure you’re aware which animals are protected before going on a hunting excursion.
