Roughly one third of Luxembourg is covered in forest, which is why the country is often called "the green heart of Europe." Hiking through these thick forests, past impressive rock formations and babbling brooks, is a popular pastime in the area, and there are almost 200 official routes and footpaths to follow. Train 1900 runs through a quiet region replete with natural beauty, and which showcases the origins of industrialization in this former mining area. The Moselle region of Luxembourg is the country’s most successful wine region, due to its warm and sunny weather. This area is also a popular destination for wine tours and tastings, with white wines being the most commonly produced here. The region is named for the Moselle River which flows through the area, and which can be traversed on a calming boat cruise.
