#5: Ymir Is A Titan Shifter

The main theme of Season Two appeared to be one of identity, since practically every side character seemed to have a hidden alter ego that ended up being revealed in the most dramatic way possible. One of the most shocking of these was Ymir. Originally thought to be a sassy Survey Corp member who appeared to only have warm feelings towards Krista, as it happens Ymir was actually a Titan Shifter herself. While she may not be a psycho-soldier like a certain manly duo, it was revealed that her life had been nothing more than tragedy and lies. Raised by cultists, betrayed by her own compassion, Ymir's heartbreaking backstory not only showed just how layered she really was, but also gave hints about the show's ongoing mystery in regards to the Titans' origins.

#4: Historia Reiss

So...Krista is the illegitimate child of humanity's less than benevolent king? Yep, and as it happens her origins are an essential part of the conspiracy going on behind the walls, one that shows just how shady the government and Church of the Wall really are. Just like Ymir, Historia was running from the truth, though in this case it happens to be even more fruitless given how she has royal blood coursing through veins. This revelation looks to add yet another crazy twist to the series, given how Historia's existence has put a massive target on the Survey Corps, with the third season's trailers already showing that the likes of some rather unsavoury humans in service to her father are already on their tail.

#3: Reiner and Bertholdt

By far the most shocking revelation to come out of the second season, we finally got to see who lurked behind the visages of the Armored and Colossal Titans. Surprise, surprise, it turned out to be Big Brother Reiner and Nice Guy Bertholdt. Having been in league with Annie aka The Female Titan from the start, these two were the ones who lead charge that caused the collapse of the Walls and sent everything into motion. After revealing their identities in a moment of madness, the two find themselves squaring off against the Survey Corp as well as Eren's Titan form in one of last year's most epic battles. Despite suffering through all manner of skirmishes, the two traitors are still out there, and you can bet they're gearing up for another round!

#2: Beast Titan

The mysterious new foe that quickly established itself as Eren and company's primary threat. This highly intelligent Titan has already made quick work of any foe that's tried to take it out, poor Mike being one of them. From what little we know, he appears to be an orchestrator of some kind, plotting from the shadows in order to drive humanity closer to extinction. At the season's conclusion, it was revealed that he's also a Titan Shifter, one who looks ready to move his twisted machinations towards its endgame.

#1: Coordinator Eren

Just when you thought our hero had run out of trump cards, along comes this handy little innate ability. Following the death of Hannes as well as Mikasa's confession, Eren unleashed a primal scream against the Smiling Titan. As a result, he was able to turn the surrounding Titans to his command and force them to slaughter his foe. We can kind of understand why Reiner and Bertholdt might want to get their hands on him. After all, with a power like that Eren could easily turn the tide of the conflict. How or why he has this hidden strength still remains a mystery, but hopefully the approaching season will give us the answers we need.
