Script written by Savannah Sher
HBO never lets us down. Their newest show, “Sharp Objects” is getting rave reviews and here is why you should add it to your list. Firstly, It's from the author of “Gone Girl!” There's a reason “Gone Girl” became such a phenomenon, and it's her ability to tease out a mystery piece by piece. She wrote the novel “Sharp Objects” way back in 2006, long before she was topping the best seller lists. It has some similarities with her more popular work, but is also completely its own story and is just as addictive in its own right. Secondly, It's a story driven by women. It may still be somewhat rare to find premiere television with majority female casts, but this miniseries is helping pave the way for that becoming the norm!

Works made by women and which center on women are getting the attention that they deserve, and “Sharp Objects” is no exception. “Sharp Objects” shares one very obvious connection to another HBO miniseries that was released recently, but we’ll be getting to that later. One thing you may notice if you watched “Big Little Lies” was the show’s epic soundtrack. In both shows, music is used not simply to fill the background silence, but rather to add depth to the scenes by taking you off guard or illuminating a character’s feelings. You’ll hear Led Zeppelin, Engelbert Humperdinck, The Acid and many more, and you’ll definitely want to grab this soundtrack on Spotify.

What can we say about Amy Adams that hasn’t already been said? As of the time of writing she’s a five time Academy Award nominee (a number we can only assume will climb year by year) and she has won countless other acting awards. She is at the helm of the cast of “Sharp Objects”, playing Camille Preaker, a mentally unstable alcoholic who comes back to her hometown to investigate some gruesome murders. The show also features Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina and a great supporting cast.

One of the biggest reasons we just knew this show was going to be good was its director, Jean-Marc Vallée. He is best known for his work on 2013’s “Dallas Buyers Club”, and “Wild”, which was released the following year. He also notably directly “Big Little Lies”. It also has Blumhouse Productions behind it, which helped create “Get Out”. Marti Noxon produced the series, and she is known for being a writer and producer of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. What more could you ask for?
