#5: Red

While the past few fashion seasons have been characterized by their neutral color palettes, this bold hue will be everywhere come fall. Whether you want to believe there was political motivation behind the choice or not, it doesn’t seem like a coincidence that fashion week coincided with the “Day Without Women” which called for women to take a one day strike and wear red to mark their decision. Valentino is known for creating gowns in this bold color but it also made appearances on the runway at Givenchy, Proenza Schouler, Prada and Max Mara.

#4: Velvet

The velvet trend is no longer new, but it seems clear that it’s not going anywhere any time soon. This sumptuous fabric has been present on the catwalk for several seasons now, and it’s the perfect thing to make your fall wardrobe feel more luxurious. This season though, the material was displayed in varying hues ranging from cobalt blue to sunflower yellow. This trend was mostly seen at New York Fashion Week but there were also examples of it in Paris, London and Milan.

#3: Leisure Wear

It looks like the athleisure trend is here to stay, so laid back ladies can rejoice! If casual and comfy is your MO, there are plenty of options this season for you to look chic while keeping it cozy. Après-ski-style zipper sweaters were seen at multiple shows, so you can look like you’ve just come off the slopes no matter how far you are from a ski hill. Full leisure suits are also back in style, though bringing back your Juicy sweatsuit from the early aughts would be a definite faux pas.

#2: Midi Skirts

A few seasons ago, maxi skirts were the hottest length for both skirts and dresses. Recently though, hemlines have been gradually shortening, so that a cut a few inches above the ankle has become trendy. Something that hits just below the knee would also be appropriate, depending on your height. The look has definite vintage vibes, with the tea length style recalling the classic silhouette of the 1950s and 60s. For fall, pairing the look with ankle boots is the perfect way to make it feel modern.

#1: Vintage Florals

Floral prints never go out of style, but as the seasons change, they change to suit the current trends. This fall, we’ll be seeing the sort of large, faded flower prints that might seem reminiscent of your grandparents’ drapes or sofas. If you want to transition your existing floral pieces for fall, you can easily pair them with tights and boots instead of sandals for a seasonally appropriate look.
