Top 5 Anime of Fall 2017

Top 5 Anime of Fall 2017
VOICE OVER: Ashley Bowman
Written by Alex Crilly-McKean

The winter chill is upon us, but before the new season hits let's take a look back at what the autumn had to offer! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the top five anime of Fall 2017.

For this list, we'll be looking at the most popular and acclaimed anime to make their debut this past season. This includes new shows as well as brand new seasons of previously running shows. As long as they started up during the Fall, they're more than qualified! Oh, and be on the lookout for a few spoilers down the line!

#5: “Inuyashiki” (2017)

We really shouldn’t have surprised at the level of violence in this show given that it came from the same mind that gave us Gantz, and yet it still made us shiver. After an extra-terrestrial explosion turns lonely but lovable old man Ichiro Inuyashiki into a cyborg, he takes on the role of a hero in order to protect the innocent. At the same time, a sociopathic teenager naked Shishigami also inherits these powers…and let’s just say he might go down as one of anime’s most sadistic new villains. Who murders a girl’s family and then tries to talk to her about One Piece?!

#4: “Gintama: Porori-hen” (2017)

The silver-haired samurai is back and he’s bringing the hilarity in droves! While there are still flashes of swordplay and intense action, this season appear to really bring Odd Jobs Gin back into the comedic fold. So far we’ve seen such modern classics like Kagura getting herself a boyfriend and Gin stuck in the unfortunate position of having a legendary blade shoved up his backside. It might sound ridiculous to outsiders, but fans of the long-running franchise are not going to be disappointed with this one.

#3: “March Comes In Like A Lion” 2nd Season (2017)

Heartfelt, character-driven and truly tear-jerking, the continuation to last year’s underrated gem managed to bring back the feels with a vengeance. As he continues to build bridges and focus on his passion for shogi, Rei appears to be finally pushing free of the isolation that governed him all last season. As to be expected, there are complications on the horizon, but thanks to its endearing cast it still manages to pull us in for another game. Seriously though, will someone give this guy a hug?

#2: “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” (2017)

After suffering a life of neglect, tormented teenager Chise offers herself up at an auction, only to find herself bought by the benevolent mage known as Elias, who proceeds to make her his apprentice, exposing her to a world of magic beyond the sight of mere mortals. Oh, and he also pops the question. Rich with intriguing and creative lore as well as deeply upsetting subject matters, Chise and Elias’ journey together will have you spellbound before you know it. Fair warning though, cat lovers may want to prepare themselves… Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honourable mentions. “Blend S” (2017) “Mr Osomatsu” 2nd Season (2017) “Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond” (2017)

#1: “Food Wars: The Third Plate” (2017)

This feast of a series had already enraptured us with its delicious visuals and entertaining collective of superstar chefs, but this season really managed to raise the stakes! And no, we aren’t talking sirloin. While it has all the tasty troupes we’ve come to expect, it also blindsighted us with its own Civil War. With the arrival of Erina’s villainous father and the Elite Ten’s betrayal, Totsuki Academy looks set for a showdown of epic meal proportions. We have never been this excited about food before! Do you agree with our list? What do you think is the best anime of the fall season? With new top tens published every day, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
