#3: Not Saying Goodbye
Carl's final moments were stretched out through the entire episode, and AMC did a really good job at saying goodbye to a character who had been with the show since the very beginning. However, it is a little strange that he said goodbye to so few people. Sure he has his stack of letters, but considering how many of his friends from Alexandrea were in the sewer with him, there definitely should have been a few more farewells. Especially Rosita, who didn't say anything, and Tara who just kind of had that weird little glance.
#2: Carl DID Beat The World
So it turns out the Old Man Rick vision was actually Carl's dream, not Rick's. The best moment was of course seeing Negan appear all friendly and part of the community. This is of course complete bonkers considering that Negan burns people alive. Still, it reinforced the idea that unlike almost everyone else, Carl never gave in to the insanity and evil that took over everyone else, including, at times, Rick. Carl may have told Judith that he didn't beat the world, but by never comprimising his own morals, in a way Carl did in fact win.

#1: Who Killed Carl?
Just like his mother Lori, we never actually see the moment of Carl's death. The group debates over who should kill him before he turns, with Michonne offering to take the burden from Rick. But Carl also offers to do it himself and while they don't actually decide on camera, actor Chandler Riggs confirmed in an interview with ComicBook.com that it was Carl in the end. Like with Lori, the show's producers felt that actually showing the death was unnecessary, and we have to agree. Having Carl close off his own fate is important thematically as he is the one who, to the very end, does the right thing.
