Top 20 Times Identities Were Revealed on Power Rangers
Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 20 Times Identities Were Revealed on Power Rangers. For this list, we’ll be looking at the most notable moments where spandex-clad heroes accidentally or intentionally revealed the face underneath their masks. Who had the most morphenomenal face-reveal? Let us know if we missed any in the comments below!
#20: Ranger Operators Gold & Silver
“Power Rangers RPM” (2009)
In a world ravaged by a villainous computer virus, the very last thing the RPM crew expected was a last-minute save from the Gold and Silver operators. But a few major questions remained after this lucky rescue. Who were these people? Also, where did they even get the extra morphers? It all came to a head when the two revealed themselves to be none other Dr. K’s long-lost friends Gem and Gemma. This was especially surprising to learn because we believed they had perished while trying to get the morphers from a collapsing laboratory. Luckily, they resurfaced when the Rangers needed them most. The duo brought both power and a much-needed morale-boost to the team.
#19: Trent Fernandez-Mercer
“Power Rangers Dino Thunder” (2004)
When the “Dino Thunder” gang got transported into a comic book, they soon realized that the pen really is mightier than the sword. It was all up to Trent to rescue them from a scripted defeat. Unfortunately, the comic artist that drew the rangers into a corner didn’t buy that the rangers were really in danger. With no other option, Trent decided to openly don the white spandex to prove that he wasn’t exaggerating. The troubled white ranger had seriously valued his privacy throughout the early part of the season. So, it was beyond heartwarming to see him sacrifice his greatest secret to ensure that his teammates got a happy ending.
#18: Tommy Oliver as the Green Mighty Morphin Ranger
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” (1993-95)
Just when the franchise had settled into a comfortable routine, the five-part “Green With Evil” saga majorly shook things up. The series introduced a new kid in Angel Grove named Tommy Oliver and an evil green Ranger with enough power to tear through the team. What the Mighty Morphin teens didn’t immediately realize is that their new enemy and friend were one in the same. However, everything changed when a computer scan revealed Tommy was in the suit. While the audience had known about Tommy’s alter-ego from the start, seeing Kimberly and the others grapple with this revelation added a lot of emotional heft to the storyline. In a broader sense, this reveal also officially started Tommy’s journey to becoming a legendary good ranger.
#17: Ollie Akana
“Power Ranger Dino Fury” (2021-22)
All season long, this dino-themed Blue Ranger had to save the day while keeping his prying mother a safe distance away. But despite Ollie’s best efforts, Dr. Akana found herself in the middle of Void Knight’s sinister plans. The blue ranger was thankfully able to save his mom. Unfortunately, the recent damage to the morphing grid made him demorph and reveal his identity to his mom. Instead of berating him, Dr. Akana delivered the finale’s best moment by telling her son how proud she is of him. This scene served as the perfect ending to Ollie’s identity arc. Her acceptance was a major reason why the ending to “Dino Fury’s” first season was so gratifying.
#16: Jungle Fury Rangers
“Power Rangers Jungle Fury” (2008)
While the main cast was off fighting bad guys, poor Fran was usually relegated to making pizza and providing comic relief. That’s probably why none of the Rangers expected she’d be the one to stumble into their secret lair. Of course, that’s just what happens when your base of operations is right above a pizza joint. Fran had spent a season being underestimated and tricked. So, it was extremely vindicating to see her figure out the Ranger’s identities all on her own. Fran also became a total scene-stealer once she became a part of the team. Maybe that’s because she reacted exactly how most fans would if they were in the presence of real Power Rangers.
#15: Mystic Force Rangers
“Power Rangers Mystic Force” (2006)
In order to save the world, Nick, Xander, and the others missed a lot of shifts at their Rock Porium job. So, it was only right that they finally told their boss why they were absent so often. The reveal should’ve been a nice moment of kinship. However, their boss Toby didn’t actually believe them at first. It didn’t help that they were unable to morph right after confessing the truth. In a comedic turn of events, Toby accidentally sees his friends transform while he’s out on an ordinary run. Since he turned into a giddy kid as he watched him fight, we think it’s safe to assume he didn’t regret cutting the team slack for missing shifts.
#14: Tommy Oliver as the White Mighty Morphin Ranger
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” (1993-95)
Just as the Mighty Morphin’ team had hit one of their lowest points, Blue Ranger Billy discovered that Zordon and Alpha had been secretly working on a new ranger. This huge revelation immediately had fans wondering who would don the new morpher. The obvious choice of Tommy seemed to be out of the running. In the previous season, he’d seemingly retired for good after he lost his Green Ranger powers. But the show surprised us by revealing that the obvious candidate was the only choice in a jaw-dropping reveal. Outside of satisfying fans, the lighting and music made his return feel more epic. In one fell swoop, we got a new Ranger, new Zord, and a whole new reason to love Tommy all over again.
#13: Time Force Rangers
“Power Rangers Time Force” (2001)
During the Time Force season, the greatest threat to the Power Rangers was never a mutant. The most dangerous antagonist was actually a persistent reporter named Mitch. While yellow ranger Katie tried her best to steer him off the scent, the team still got unlucky. After a new monster brutally knocks the rangers down, they accidentally demorph in front of Mitch’s camera lens. It was actually harrowing to see Katie beg the reporter not to snap pictures of the beaten rangers. Although Mitch intended to publish the photos for a big payday, he changed his tune after the unmorphed yellow ranger saved him. It was a great way to end the story of one of the scariest ranger exposures.
#12: Danny Delgado
“Power Rangers Wild Force” (2002)
Black Ranger Danny learned the hard way that romance and superhero work don’t always mix. While trying to protect his love interest Kendall from an org, his morphing sequence is seen by both her and an obnoxious dude named Collin. Unfortunately, she still gets hurt. Collin initially tells the black ranger to stay away from Kendall to keep her safe. However, Danny can’t help but approach his love interest one last time. During their sad meeting, they both accept that it isn’t the right time to start a relationship. It was heartbreaking to see Danny sacrifice a romance to continue his noble fight. However, the knowledge that Kendall kept a gift he sent to her gave us hope their love story could be rekindled someday.
#11: Tommy Oliver as the Red Zeo Ranger
“Power Rangers Zeo” (1996)
While Tommy’s brother David wasn’t a ranger, the sibling still had the heart of a hero. The regular guy proved it when the Machine Empire was in the middle of another scheme. After David got attacked, Tommy teleported his brother away from danger. But the ranger sibling wasn’t relieved. Since David believed his sibling was captured by robots, he begs to go back and confront the goons. Tommy had to reveal his identity just to get his brother to take a breath. This emotional reveal hit all the right notes because of the on screen chemistry between the duo. That was likely because Jason David Frank’s actual brother, Erik played David all along. Their bond shone on screen in this upbeat scene.
#10: Devon Daniels
“Power Rangers Beast Morphers” (2019-20)
For the first half of “Beast Morphers,” Devon doesn’t see eye-to-eye with his father, Mayor Daniels. The mayor thinks his son is just an irresponsible slacker, and boy, is there egg on his face when he discovers the truth. During an attack by Blaze, he sees Devon de-morph and is naturally shocked to find out that his own son is the Red Ranger. All this time, he was worrying about Devon doing nothing with his life, when all along, he was saving the lives of everyone in the city while risking his own safety. While he’s upset that Devon couldn’t tell him, Mayor Daniels couldn’t be prouder of his son’s accomplishments, and they can finally start mending their relationship.
#9: Dino Thunder Rangers
“Power Rangers Dino Thunder” (2004)
For over half the series, Cassidy Cornell has been hungry for the biggest scoop of the century – the true identities of the Dino Thunder Rangers. In the two-part season finale, her wish comes true when Devin records the Rangers morphing on tape. However, in a shocking turn of events, Cassidy returns the tape to the Rangers, giving up the scoop to protect her friends’ privacy as thanks for all they’ve done for Reefside. It really shows how far Cassidy’s grown since we first met her, going from a nosy, conniving school news reporter to a genuinely caring person. If only all journalists had her consideration and integrity.
#8: Alyssa Enrilé
“Power Rangers Wild Force” (2002)
Alyssa’s father taught her everything she knows about martial arts and had hopes of her taking his place running his dojo. Instead, Alyssa followed her own path of becoming the White Wild Force Ranger. When her father comes to town for a visit, he sees the Rangers fighting an org, and instantly recognizes Alyssa’s fighting style. Not only is his daughter a Power Ranger, but she’s perfected the fighting style he taught her and defeated an org in combat in honor of her family’s name. And she accomplished all that on her own, leaving Mr. Enrilé no choice but to be proud.
#7: Zoey Reeves
“Power Rangers Beast Morphers” (2019-20)
With Evox’s master plan put into action, the entire city evacuates. Zoey’s mother, Muriel, begs Commander Shaw to let her daughter leave with her, unaware that Zoey is the Yellow Ranger. When Zoey reveals herself to Muriel, concern and surprise are quickly replaced with motherly pride as the two share a heartwarming moment together. Zoey started out as a former cadet-turned-laundry girl, and now she’s one of the city’s biggest heroes; how could Muriel not be proud of her? She gives Zoey a tearful pep talk and then watches as her little girl goes off to save the world, akin to a real mother watching their child go off to war.
#6: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” (1993-95)
Throughout Season 2, Bulk and Skull have vowed to figure out who the Power Rangers really are. And during a stakeout, it finally happens. You can visibly see the cogs turning in their heads when they discover that the goody-goody dweebs were actually their heroes all this time, and they had no idea. But that’s not the most shocking part. When Scatterbrain wipes the Rangers’ memories, Bulk and Skull don’t run away. Instead, they take a stand to save the Rangers’ memories, despite losing their own memories of what they just learned. We really wish they could’ve kept those memories because this scene shows that our favorite numskulls could actually be dependable allies for the Rangers.
#5: Tommy Oliver
“Power Rangers Dino Thunder” (2004)
When Tommy goes missing, the three Dino Thunder Rangers try to look for clues where he might’ve gone, but they find something even bigger. They stumble upon a video diary made by Tommy himself, which reveals his entire history as a Power Ranger, from “Mighty Morphin” all the way to “Ninja Storm.” Of course, we already knew Tommy’s story, but until now, our noobies only saw him as their high school teacher and mentor. But to learn that he is all that and the most legendary Ranger of all really puts things in a new light, and really gives them a new sense of responsibility knowing that he believes in them as heroes.
#4: Shane Clarke
“Power Rangers Ninja Storm” (2003)
The only thing worse than an overbearing parent is an overbearing sibling. Unfortunately, Shane’s older brother Porter fits the bill. Incredibly successful, he thinks Shane’s wasting his life with his skateboarding. Thankfully, Porter changes his tune when he accidentally discovers what Shane’s really been doing with his life – saving the world as the Red Ninja Storm Ranger. This revelation really helps improve both brothers’ relationship – Porter gains a newfound respect for Shane, and Shane finally realizes that the only reason his brother was so hard on him was that he genuinely cared for him, just like any good brother should. Just goes to show how much you can still learn about your own family.
#3: Billy Cranston
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” (1993-95)
After Billy nearly suffocates, Billy and Kimberly are forced to remove his helmet and inadvertently expose his identity to the Rangers’ new friends, Rocky, Adam, and Aisha, who quickly piece together who the other Rangers are. Zordon makes them vow to keep the Rangers’ identities a secret, and they honor that vow, becoming much-needed allies for our multicolored heroes. Several episodes later, the three end up taking Jason, Zack, and Trini’s places as the new Red, Black, and Yellow Rangers. This was one of the more clever ways to introduce new Rangers: building up their worthiness to continue the legacy by showing them as loyal, trustworthy allies who could guard a Ranger’s most precious secret.
#2: Wes Collins
“Power Rangers Time Force” (2001)
You thought Devon had daddy issues; just look at Wes from “Time Force.” Mr. Collins wants Wes to follow in his footsteps, while Wes wants to make a future for himself. Of course, he can’t tell his dad he became a Ranger. However, during a fight, Wes gets his visor broken, and Mr. Collins instantly recognizes him. Rather than being proud, he’s more shocked and annoyed that his own son isn’t following the future laid out for him. Thankfully, coupled with a near-death experience, Mr. Collins is able to see the error of his ways and embraces Wes’s role as a Ranger after all.
#1: Space Rangers
“Power Rangers in Space” (1998)
Astronema’s invasion has nearly decimated all of Angel Grove, but she demands that the Rangers reveal themselves. However, the civilians - in a real “Spartacus” moment - take a stand to protect the Rangers by saying they’re the Rangers. Inspired by the citizens’ bravery, the real Rangers reveal themselves and resume fighting back Astronema’s forces. Soon, all of Angel Grove gets into the fight -with Bulk and Skull leading the charge. This is easily one of the most iconic scenes in “Power Rangers” history, the citizens of Angel Grove supporting their heroes - even before learning their true identities - and really showing that anyone who has the courage to do what’s right can be a Ranger.
