Top 20 Most Shocking Celebrity Breakups of 2024
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most unexpected celebrity breakups of 2024 that left us all stunned.
#20: Zach Bryan & Brianna[a] “Chickenfry” LaPaglia
Shortly after country music star Bryan and “BFFs” podcast host LaPaglia met in May 2023 at the Academy of Country Music Awards, the singer split with his partner. A couple of months later, the duo began officially dating. However, in October 2024, Bryan posted on Instagram Stories that he'd decided to end it with LaPaglia. She did not expect the announcement and was reportedly blocked by Bryan on social media. A month later, the podcaster and her friends released a diss track against Bryan. However, his team moved quickly to scrub its existence. Soon after, she went public with accusations that she sustained abuse from the musician. LaPaglia stated she was offered $12 million by Bryan’s team to sign an NDA.
#19: Ryan Seacrest & Aubrey Paige
Veteran TV host Ryan Seacrest went public with his relationship with model Aubrey Paige in May 2021. The two were first seen together celebrating Memorial Day over in the Hamptons. While they mostly kept things out of the public eye, Seacrest and Paige still made occasional public appearances together and frequently gushed about each other on social media. After nearly three years together, the couple announced their split in April 2024. However, according to a source close to them, they plan to remain friends and support each other. Seacrest has had a lot to distract him from the break-up, as he took over hosting “Wheel of Fortune” from Pat Sajak in September.
#18: Kim Kardashian & Odell Beckham Jr.
After her high-profile relationship with comedian Pete Davidson ended in August 2022, Kim Kardashian was rumored to be involved with multiple famous figures, including Tom Brady. But the only relationship that seemed to have been confirmed was with NFL player Odell Beckham Jr. In September 2023, a source close to the pair revealed that they were seeing each other, though it didn’t seem serious. These claims were further supported by their appearances at various events, where they seemed to spend a lot of time together. However, any potential spark between Kardashian and Beckham apparently fizzled out quickly. By April 2024, the two were reported to have gone their separate ways.
#17: Andrew Garfield & Kate Tomas
While he typically likes to keep his private life…well, private, in April 2024, Garfield accidentally gave the world a peek behind the curtain. The actor was spotted holding hands with Dr. Kate Tomas, a spiritual advisor, as they double-dated with Bo Burnham and Phoebe Bridgers in Malibu, California. The couple were spotted publicly together several times, including during the tennis tournament Wimbledon. However, in October 2024, Tomas confirmed on Instagram that they’d broken up months before. Days after this announcement, it was confirmed that Garfield was set to appear on “Chicken Shop Date,” hosted by Amelia Dimoldenberg. For years, fans have been shipping the two after they demonstrated their sky-high chemistry during interviews. We’ll have to wait and see if anything more develops…
#16: Halle Bailey & DDG[b]
In January 2022, Bailey and DDG set the internet ablaze with rumors after they were spotted being cozy at an Usher concert. A couple of months later, they went social media official! Their love for each other was clear to see when the actor was featured in the rapper’s music video for “If I Want You.” However, speculation of infidelity regularly plagued the relationship. In January 2024, the couple went public with the birth of their son, Halo. Yet, by October, the duo announced their split, clarifying they’ll remain best friends. While the former couple have had disagreements, such as Bailey disliking DDG taking their son on Kai Cenat[c]’s stream, the rapper has stated he wants another baby with his ex.
#15: Ellie Goulding & Caspar Jopling[d]
As fairytale marriages go, they don’t come much more realistic than these two. After announcing their engagement in 2018, musician Goulding and art dealer Jopling had their nuptials at York Minster in York, England, filled with famous guests, including members of the country’s Royal Family. In 2021, their family grew after the birth of their son, Arthur. However, by 2023, their relationship began to struggle as they spent time apart before reconciling to remain a family unit. In February 2024, Goulding announced on Instagram Stories that she and Jopling had split up and had been separated for a while. In the weeks after, Goulding referenced her sadness about the relationship’s collapse before enjoying a brief fling with a surfer.
#14: Martine McCutcheon[e] & Jack McManus
After making her name on the UK soap opera “Eastenders,” McCutcheon balances a music career and acting on top of becoming a part of a lot of people’s Christmas tradition with her work in 2003’s “Love Actually.” In 2009, she began dating musician McManus. By 2012, they’d tied the knot and celebrated the birth of their son, Rafferty, in 2015. McCutcheon has spoken about marriage being hard work, but the couple still renewed their vows in 2022. However, in August 2024, McCutcheon announced she and McManus had broken up, and seemingly the decision wasn’t mutual. Via Instagram, the actor mentioned it was her husband’s decision to end things. According to reports, the announcement even took McManus’s family by surprise.
#13: Leah Remini & Angelo Pagán[f]
This acting couple has been through a lot. From meeting in 1996, getting married in 2003 while still involved in Scientology, having a daughter in 2004, to all of them escaping the group in 2013 and dealing with the fallout. Remini and Pagán even opened up their lives for reality shows, documentaries, and memoirs, supporting each other through the chaos. Another big change was their daughter, Sofia, moving back to college in the early 2020s. However, in August 2024, the duo announced on social media that due to growing apart and finding themselves “playing roles,” they were splitting up after 28 years together. In October, they finalized their uncontested divorce, drawing a line in the sand of their epic romance.
#12: Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott
Actors Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott crossed paths while filming the 2005 Lifetime movie “Mind Over Murder.” Both were married to other people at the time, but they began an affair and left their respective partners to be together. Their marriage frequently made headlines, not only for financial troubles but also for McDermott’s infidelity in 2013. Although the couple managed to work through those challenges, things reached a breaking point in June 2023 during a heated argument. Shortly after, McDermott announced their separation on his Instagram, ending their 18-year relationship. In March 2024, Spelling officially filed for divorce and requested sole physical custody of their five children.
#11: Gypsy Rose Blanchard & Ryan Anderson
The horrifying true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s upbringing, her subsequent trial, and release from prison in 2023 have all thrust her into the public eye– particularly due to film and television adaptations of her life. In 2022, Blanchard and Anderson married as she served her sentence. This was only two years after they had begun communicating via letters, and a year after they had first met. But only three months after she had been released, the two announced their split. Blanchard announced the breakup on social media, stating that she needs to make some time to work on herself. One month after the announcement of her split with Anderson, news broke of Blanchard getting back together with Ken Urker; the two are expecting a child in January 2025.
#10: Porsha Williams & Simon Guobadia
In May 2021, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams publicly announced her relationship with Nigerian-born businessman Simon Guobadia. This revelation was particularly surprising as Guobadia was the estranged husband of her co-star Falynn Pina at the time. Despite the controversy, the pair claimed to have found happiness in each other and proceeded to tie the knot in a lavish two-day ceremony in November 2022. But things between the two, it seems, were not meant to last. In February 2024, just 15 months after their wedding, Williams filed for divorce from Guobadia, stating that their union was “irretrievably broken.”
#9: Anderson .Paak & Jaylyn Chang
Throughout his career, Grammy-winning musician Anderson .Paak has largely kept his personal life private. In 2010, long before his rise to fame, Paak married gospel singer Jaylyn Chang, whom he met at a music school in Los Angeles, and welcomed two sons with her. Chang, who is originally from South Korea, helped Paak connect more with his own Korean heritage. However, 2024 started on a difficult note for the family. In January, Paak filed for divorce from Chang after 13 years of marriage, requesting joint custody of their children. Since then, the divorce proceedings have been kept mostly private, with neither party making any public statements about it.
#8: Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson
Amid his divorce, the former NFL player met singer and actor Simpson, and the 2 began dating in 2010. Within a few months, they announced their engagement, eventually tying the knot in 2014. During their 14-year relationship, the icing on the cake was having 3 children together. However, in November 2024, rumors began to swirl that the once-happy couple was going their separate ways. Reports claimed they were living separate lives and had contacted divorce lawyers. Adding fuel to the speculation fire was Johnson being photographed without his wedding ring. Simpson’s sister, Ashlee, was asked about the rumors, only to seemingly reject them. As of mid-November 2024, neither Simpson nor Johnson have confirmed their split.
#7: Cardi B & Offset
There might not be a more turbulent celeb relationship than these two. However, after everything they’ve been through and remained together, their end still surprised many. After beginning dating and getting engaged in 2017, then announcing their first pregnancy the next year, it was discovered Cardi B and Offset had secretly married the same year they got engaged. In 2020, the rapping relationship hit the rocks when Cardi B filed for divorce, adding there were “no prospects for a reconciliation.” A month later, they were back together. In December 2023, Cardi B announced via Instagram that the two had split up. However, as the duo continued working together, there was a belief they were still together. In July 2024, as well as announcing their 3rd pregnancy, Cardi B also filed for divorce from Offset.
#6: Harry Styles & Taylor Russell
The relationship between singer Harry Styles and actress Taylor Russell began privately and pretty much ended the same way. Rumors of a relationship between the two emerged in June 2023 after they were seen on a date in London. Although they never publicly acknowledged their relationship, Styles and Russell were photographed together multiple times after. Russell attended some of his tour dates in Austria and Italy, and Styles returned the favor by showing up for her play, “The Effect,” in London. However, after roughly one year, the couple decided to call it quits in May 2024. According to a source, with Styles in America and Russell in London, long distance may have played a role in their breakup.
#5: Bryan Abasolo & Rachel Lindsay
In 2017, Rachel Lindsay made history as the first African-American lead in the “Bachelor” franchise when she starred in the 13th season of “The Bachelorette.” The season ended with Lindsay saying yes to Bryan Abasolo’s proposal. Two years later, they exchanged vows at a ceremony in Cancún, Mexico. However, over time, their relationship appeared to grow strained, with Lindsay expressing that they led “totally different lives.” They also faced challenges in starting a family. All of these likely contributed to their announcement in January 2024 that they were getting divorced. As one of the few success stories from the “Bachelor” franchise, this announcement came as a surprise to many fans.
#4: Chance the Rapper & Kirsten Corley
The love story between Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley began in 2003 when they met as kids at an office party. They didn’t start dating until about a decade later, and in 2015, they welcomed their first child together. In March 2019, the couple exchanged vows in a ceremony that was attended by several high-profile guests. After spending five years together and welcoming another child, Chance and Corley decided to part ways. In April 2024, the couple announced their separation, asking fans for privacy and respect. The announcement came nearly one year after speculation arose about marital troubles when a video surfaced showing Chance dancing with another woman at his birthday party.
#3: Channing Tatum & Zoë Kravitz
In early 2021, shortly after filing for divorce from Karl Glusman[g], rumors began to emerge that Kravitz and Tatum were seeing each other. That speculation grew after Tatum was cast in Kravitz’s directorial debut for “Blink Twice,” followed by them being seen together in public and for events. It wasn’t until 2022 that the acting powerhouse couple publicly confirmed their relationship. In 2023, after Kravitz was spotted wearing a ring at Kendall Jenner's Halloween party, it was confirmed they’d gotten engaged. However, a couple of months after attending the US premiere of their film together, reports came out that Tatum and Kravitz had broken up.
#2: Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck
After working together on the 2003 film “Gigli,” romance brewed between the two, leading to them getting engaged and becoming one of the most famous celebrity couples around. However, the massive amount of publicity contributed to them splitting in 2004. While Affleck married Jennifer Garner, and Lopez did the same with Marc Anthony, they both got divorced in 2018 and 2014, respectively. In 2021, “Bennifer” shippers celebrated when it was reported that the singer/actress and actor were dating again. The following year, after announcing their engagement, they finally got married! However, in 2024, rumors about the demise of “Bennifer” took the internet by storm. In August, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, seemingly putting to bed their decades-long connection for good.
#1: Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher
They were once considered one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples. Hence, it came as a shock to many when actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher announced their decision to call it quits in April of 2024. The couple first met back in 2001, at a party in Sydney, Australia, and formed an instant connection. They got engaged three years later, but didn’t officially tie the knot until March 2010. Their union seemed to wax stronger over the years and produced three children. In the post announcing their divorce, the actors stated that they had jointly filed to end their marriage in 2023, bringing an end to their over 20-year relationship.
