Top 10 Upcoming Anime Sequels We Can't Wait To Watch
#10: “The Promised Neverland” Season Two (2021)
When we last left the orphans of Grace Field House, they had just pulled off the greatest escape in anime history, fleeing from the only life they’d ever known in order to save themselves from being fed to their unseen overlords. What awaits them on the other side? If we had to hazard a guess; a whole new world with a whole lot of new dangers for them to navigate. Let’s hope Emma is resilient enough, because from the looks of things she’s in for a tough adolescence!
#9: “Beastars” Season Two (2021)
He took the plunge, beat the bad guy, got the girl…now what? In spite of saving Haru from a grizzly end at the claws of a carnivore mafia, Legoshi still remains a slave to his predatory instincts, and while his feelings have been made clear, the road to romance still looks to be a ugly one. Given Legoshi and Louis’ actions, it’s clear there’s going to be a shift in this already shaky society, we just hope that come the end our golden wolf boy gets the bunny love he deserves!
#8: “World Trigger” Season 2 (TBA)
An overlooked gem of a series that offered a meaty sci-fi experience that any shounen fan could sink their teeth into, an upcoming follow up is certainly what you’d call a pleasant surprise. Kuga and the rest of Border’s mission to take out the otherworldly invaders known as Neighbours was previously spread out over seventy episodes of Side Effects, Rank Wars and Kuga’s awkward, alien humour. The fact we might be getting another batch with a similar runtime has the potential to send it soaring in popularity, which is good because this is one that deserves your attention!
#7: “Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table” (2021)
Hello Shiroe, my old friend, we’ve come to log in again! Yeah, bet you didn’t expect to see this thing get a third season. Pushed aside in favour of other more mainstream hits like Sword Art Online, the adventures of gaming legend Shiroe and his fellow players getting trapped inside the lush yet dangerous world of Elder Tale turned out to be a sleeper hit. Now it’s back, and if the title is anything to go by, the Round Table Alliance is going to go through a bit of a rough patch…
#6: “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” Season 2
By far one of the modern isekai kings, Rimuru’s rise to dominance as nothing more as a happy ball of slime made for one of the better viewing experiences during the turbulent time that was the isekai apocalypse. Sure, that second half slowed things down a little, but from what we’ve seen so far, this upcoming season is adding a lot more agency! With his home under attack and his citizens dispersed, it looks like Rimuru is going to have to go to war to take back what was lost. Apparently with some slick new threads!
#5: “Dr. Stone: Stone Wars” (2021)
He science’d the shit out of a civilisation reduced to a stone age, and now he’s gearing up for battle. With the conflict against the primitive, adult-hating Tsukasa Empire brewing, it falls to Senku’s Kingdom of Science to protect humanity’s progress. Since they successfully created medicine and cell-phones from seemingly nothing, we’re bracing our basic brains for what he pulls off next. Forget about the bloodshed, we can’t wait to see how Senku outwits and outplays a whole army. Science truly is mightier than the sword.
#4: “The Rising of the Shield Hero” Season Two (2021)
Hey, the sooner we get Raphtalia back, the better. The fall and rise of Shield Bro was one of the most exceptional examples of an isekai we’ve ever seen, and after watching Naofumi finally settle into his role with renewed valour, we’re dying to see where his title takes him next. We’ve got the ensuing battle with the heroes from the other worlds, the mysterious nature of the Waves, and most pressingly of all, Naofumi getting on one knee and proposing to our favourite racoon girl! Get on it man!
#3: “My Hero Academia” Season 5 (2021)
The superhero spectacula-thon just continues to bust out a new season each year, and so far the quality has remained consistently epic! Who are we to expect anything less this time around? With the threat of Overhaul behind them, Deku and Class 1-A look set to continue their training, and from the looks of things are about to test their mettle against the likes of Class 1-B! Of course, the real draw is the changing nature of Deku’s Quirk. Are we going to see the remnants of One for All? Count us in!
#2: “Attack on Titan” Final Season (2020)
Season Three collectively blew us away with its quality, action and deeper storytelling, and if manga readers are to be believed, this upcoming finale is set to top even that. So yeah, we’re a little bit excited for this one! After the truth regarding the nature and creation of the Titans was finally revealed, the Survey Corp look set to take the fight across the sea to the nation of Marley. New Titan Shifters, six-pack Eren, a rematch with Zeke and Reiner, there’s so much hype in the trailer alone. And this thing is going to be over twenty episodes!
#1: “Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War” (2021)
It’s the sequel we didn’t think was possible, and yet here we are. Ichigo and the gang are getting the animated conclusion they deserve almost a decade on! Sure, the final arc isn’t exactly well-regarded among fans of the source material, but there’s still every chance for it to be translated in a satisfying and visually splendid manner sure to satisfy even the most hardcore of Shinigami lovers. Give us the war against the Quincy, beautifully animated battles, perhaps some manner of altered ending, and this former Big Three star will rocket right back to the top in the minds of fans everywhere!
