Top 10 Anime of 2022

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Anime of 2022. For this list, we’re going to be looking over the anime that, as of right now, we’re pretty sure are going to be making their arrival in 2022. Are any of these already lined up on your MAL accounts? Let us know in the comments!

#10: “Orient” (2022)

Anyone here a fan of the Magi series? Well, the mangaka’s latest work is getting its own adaptation, and from the looks of things it's promising just as much action and magic as Aladdin’s adventures. Swapping out the Arabian desert for ancient Japan, the anime looks to follow the likes of Musashi and Kojiro as they endeavour to become samurai in a world where demons aren’t only real, but revered amongst the populace. We’re always down for a solid, magical battle shonen! Hope it can deliver!

#9: “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” Season Three (2022)

Our favourite losers in love are back, and we couldn’t be happier. Is there any chance that Shinomiya and Shirogane are finally going to take that first step towards acknowledging their heart’s desire? Doubtful, but that doesn’t mean they won’t make us laugh our asses off along the way. While we can’t wait to see what kind of crazy antics these two geniuses push each other into in an effort to get the other to confess, given the emotional weight of last season, we’re on guard in case it decides to drop another bombshell that breaks our hearts. We’re looking at you Ishigami.

#8: “Overlord” Season Four (2022)

We hope you’re ready for an overwhelming amount of isekai evilness, because here comes Bone Daddy Ainz. When we last checked in on the NEET turned undead conqueror, he had taken a major milestone in dominating his new fantasy world, essentially ensnaring multiple kingdoms under his grasp, and declaring himself the Sorcerer King. So, what can we expect from a fourth outing? Crushing rebellions? Expanding his dominion? Finally taking Albedo to the boneyard? Hard to say what would result in the biggest body count.

#7: “To Your Eternity” Season Two (2022)

Because apparently the first round of suffering wasn’t enough for us. Capturing the life of an immortal being as it slowly evolves with every interaction with the people and beasts of this beautifully crafted world, Fushi’s journey was filled with endless trials and heartbreaks. Something that continued right up to its final episode, where he was left in…not the best head space. Will the man in black keep his part of the bargain? What happened to Hayase and the Nokkers? Will someone finally give this poor wolf boy a hug?!

#6: “Bungo Stray Dogs” Season Four (2022)

The underdog of the modern shonen scene, the Armed Detective Agency’s ongoing antics have continued to thrive throughout the years, even if it still doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves. Given Atsushi and Akutagawa’s promise of a rematch, we were hoping the stray dogs would claw their way to another season, and now they’re here. And if the promotional material is anything to go by, Fyodor Dostoevsky is going to be bringing the pain with his fellow rats!

#5: “Spy x Family” (2022)

Top 10 Anime of 2022 (So Far)

Can we take a moment to revel in the fact that all of our predictions for manga that will get anime adaptations came true? Now, to the point at hand – hell yes, Spy x Family is getting adapted, and we are here for it! For those not in the know, this is one of the biggest breakout manga comedies out there, one that focuses on a fake family that has no idea the other happens to be working for the neighbouring nation as either a spy or assassin. Except for Anya of course, who's psychic, and is the cutest thing to ever exist. We’re counting on you Wit and Cloverworks!

#4: “The Rising of the Shield Hero” Season Two (2022)

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Anime of Spring 2018

We’ve waited too long for Shield Bro to make his triumphant return, and now, he’s finally here. Coming off the back of an extraordinary debut that elevated the isekai genre thanks to its storytelling and personable lead, Naofumi and the rest look like they’re on route for hopefully another winning outing. Free of his false charges, we can’t wait to see how the sequel tackles the main questline of battling the Waves, while also retaining that same tension due to the growing friction between the Cardinal Heroes. Look, all we want to see is Myne and Spear-Jerk dig a deeper hole for themselves, is that too much to ask?!

#3: “Chainsaw Man” (2022)

Top 10 Chainsaw Man Moments

What do you get when you combine an outrageous yet beloved manga, and a studio that’s been spitting out nothing but fire as of late? Quite possibly the goriest jewel in MAPPA’s crown. Denji’s devil hunting exploits are a visceral blend of epic violence, surprisingly character study, and some of the most ridiculous boss designs you’re ever likely to see. This honestly can’t come out soon enough. By this point we’re just hoping the animators haven’t made actual deals with devils in exchange for exceptional visual quality!

#2: “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” (2022)

Also in:

Top 10 Bleach Resurreccions

Granted, some of us were expecting this to already be out by now, but given that the last couple of years have been so devastating you’d think Aizen thought it up, we’re more than happy to wait a bit longer if it means they’re giving justice to Bleach’s final arc. Swapping out the Espada for the Quincy, getting to see Ichigo go full Bankai on a new legion of foes with what we can only assume is vastly superior animation is something every old school fan has been dying to see. Please be good!

#1: “Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Part Two” (2022)

Also in:

Top 20 Attack on Titan Moments

The start of a new year, and the end of a legendary journey. The concluding chapter to the world of Titans, the Survey Corp, and non-stop heartbreak is finally upon us, and we have so many questions! What exactly is Eren’s endgame? Will he activate the Rumbling or stick with the Euthanasia Plan? How is Levi going to walk away from taking an explosion to the face? And will Armin at long last thaw Annie out and get to second base before everything is destroyed? Given how all these questions are lingering in the background of the long-awaited rematch between the Attack Titan and the Armoured Titan…it’s fair to say we’re pretty hyped.
