#10: “Sailor Moon Eternal” (2021)

She’s here to punish you in the name of the moon, only now it’s on the big screen via an upcoming two-part movie! Very much the unsung fourth season of Sailor Moon Crystal, fans can expect to see the Sailor Senshi make a grand return, updated aesthetics included. As it stands, the films are set to adapt the Dream Arc of the manga, which means we can expect to see Usagi take on the likes of the Dead Moon Circus! Revamped, sparkly fight scenes, here we come!

#9: “Knights of Sidonia: A Star That Weaves Love” (2021)

In spite of its CGI style, there’s a lot to love about this sci-fi series, especially if you enjoy watching giant robots with harpoons stab giant alien world-breakers through the placenta. With only two seasons to its name, the thrills and kills of Sidonia appeared to have dried up a while ago, even with its Netflix exposure. At least until it was revealed that a final adaptation was on the way, with this film set to tie everything up as well as adapt story beats that never made it into the original manga. Just give us a boss fight with a planet-sized Guana and we’ll be happy!

#8: “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash” (2020)

A new trilogy of Gundam films? Yay! It’s based around Hathaway Noa? Boo! Turns out the most despicable character from Char’s Counterattack is getting a redemption arc. Possibly. Not only is it going to take a lot for us to sympathise with him given his actions against Amuro and even his own father, but he seems to be spending his teen years as leader of a terrorist group. Given how we’re all hardcore Newtypes, we’ll of course be checking out, and who knows, if we still love Char despite him nearly dropping an asteroid on Earth, we can hopefully learn to like Hathaway! I swear though, if he starts brooding, he’s getting another Bright Slap!

#7: “Violet Evergarden: The Movie” (2020)

We’ve waited, and waited, and waited, but it seems like our favourite Auto Memory Doll and her long-awaited cinematic sequel are within our grasp. Not that we can really put the blame on Violet for this – the Kyoto Animation fire and other heartbreaking events did a number on its release date. That being said, like Violet herself, the film has persevered, all with the promise of not only delivering more of its spellbinding visuals, but also the notion that Gilbert might SOMEHOW be alive! Let’s hope nothing else comes along to derail it!

#6: “Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence” (2021)

Ever wondered how Viktor got to be such a master of the rink? As the title suggests, this potential prequel appears to chronicle Yuuri’s future mentor and lover’s younger years. While the potential absence of their romance might dampen some spirits, at the very least we can expect to see Viktor’s skating talents in their prime, and with a bigger budget, one can only hope the sequences will be memorising. Who knows, we may even learn if he’s got any demons lurking beneath that silver smile of his.

#5: “Burn the Witch” (2020)

Just in case the upcoming Bleach sequel wasn’t enough for you Kubo-fanatics out there, along comes a feature length adaptation of his one-shot that sees a pair of jaw-dropping, gun wielding witches take on a horde of dragons set in an alternate version of London. With ties to Soul Society, this continental expansion of Kubo’s original world looks like a funky fresh time, especially with his signature style on full display once again. Hopefully the Noel and Ninny’s banter is just as fiery as the creatures they’re hunting.

#4: “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train” (2020)

You have to admire UFOtable’s confidence here. Hot off the heels of one of the decade’s most acclaimed series, it immediately shifted gears by announcing a movie sequel that covers an entire arc in a single sitting. Given their track record, we can only imagine the scale of visual splendour about to come our way. Stuck on a train that appears to be infested with demons, it falls to our mismatched gang of slayers to purge it. Not only do we have the anticipated showdown between Tanjiro and Muzan’s uber-powered First Lower Kizuki, but we’ll finally get to see just how powerful the Flame Hashira really is.

#3: “Gintama: The Final” (2021)

Do we think this is the last we’ll see of Gintoki and the gang? Not a chance. Why? Because it’s bloody Gintama. They pull this shit on a yearly basis! Hell, this isn’t even the first movie of theirs to use the whole “final chapter” monikor. That’s not to say we aren’t excited about seeing what they’ve got up the sleeves, because chances are, they’re going to go all out with the gags and action. We just wouldn’t put it past them to suddenly pull out the rug from under us and announce the whole thing has been used as a springboard to launch five spin-offs, a reboot, three more movies and a Christmas special!

#2: “Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel III. spring song” (2020)

And just like that, another iteration of the Fate-verse comes to a close, though this conclusion might be one of the darkest to date. Now fully under the control of the Shadow, Sakura has gone from victim of abuse to an omnipotent menace that’s slaughtering its way across the Holy Grail War. Throw in Zouken and Kotomine’s own wicked plots, as well as Saber still being trapped inside of her Alter form, it all falls to Shirou to get his girl back before everything is consumed by her vengeance. UFOtable and Unlimited Budget Works strike again!

#1: “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” (2021)

Also in:

Top 10 Neon Genesis Evangelion Moments

If Anno gets anymore convoluted with his timelines and meta commentary, the Evangelion franchise is going to ascend to its own dimension of reality! In what might just amount to be the definitive conclusion to this symbolic, mecha-filled, philosophical, legendary cluster of an anime, Shinji and his battle-scarred best girls must once again get in the robot and prevent the Angels from causing yet another impact. With an ending that will surely differ from both the original series and End of Evangelion, we can’t wait to see what kind of madness is waiting for us!
