Top 10 Unanswered Questions From Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Unanswered Questions From "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania". For this list, we’ll be looking at the MCU plot points we became extremely curious about after watching the third Scott Lang installment. If you haven’t seen “Quantumania”, prepare for major spoilers ahead. Which future MCU project are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments.
#10: How Did Kang Kill Thor?
One of the conqueror’s most intimidating boasts is that he once slayed the god of thunder. But how could a regular human possibly stand a chance against an Odinson? While we didn’t get explicit details, our best guess is that he had powerful futuristic weapons during that battle. “Thor: Ragnarok” showed us that the god of thunder can be vulnerable to technology if it’s advanced enough. We’re guessing that Kang figured out what kind of weapons had the force to take down an Asgardian. Since Ant-Man is not quite as strong as Thor, we’re assuming that the conqueror was stripped of his god-busting equipment before he fought Scott in the quantum realm.
#9: Do the Avengers Still Assemble?
After MODOK became an honorary avenger, we started wondering about the current state of the team. Throughout “Quantumania”, Scott made it sound like it’s been a while since he’s done any superhero work. We’ve also rarely seen more than three avengers in the same place since the events of “Endgame”. That made us question whether earth and the galaxy’s mightiest heroes ever hold regular meetings. Admittedly, a lot of Avengers have been quite busy raising or mentoring the next generation of heroes lately. But given that a ton of world-ending threats emerged in phase 4, we think it’s a good time for the team to hold an intergalactic zoom meeting.
#8: What Happened to Ghost?
A few “Ant-Man” franchise characters were missing from the final installment. In an interview, Reed said beloved human allies like Luis were left out due to the focus on the quantum realm. But that statement makes the absence of Ghost stand out more. In the second film, the heroes discover they can treat her painful molecular condition by getting energy from the quantum realm. However, Ghost isn’t even mentioned in the third film. We also don’t know if she was snapped away after the events of “Ant-Man and the Wasp”. If Ghost wasn’t, that means she went five years without quantum treatment. While we know she survived because she’s slated for the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie, she might be bitter about suffering for half a decade.
#7: Is the Quantum Tunnel Time Machine Still Around?
Scott mentions how he saved the world with time travel a few times in “Quantumania”. That left us curious about what happened to the machine that made it possible. In the final act of “Endgame”, Cap used it to return infinity stones and a hammer back to their proper times. But was the machine dismantled later? Past MCU films like “Spider-Man: Homecoming” have shown that villains are more than capable of stealing from heroes. If an antagonist found the machine and got pym particles, they could easily hop to the past. The idea of a villain manipulating time to scoop up an infinity stone or the whole gauntlet is terrifying. So, it would be nice to hear whether the Avengers destroyed the time tunnel.
#6: Would Cassie or Kate Lead the Young Avengers?
Throughout “Quantumania”, it’s made clear that Cassie is an idealistic young heroine who wants to help everyone in need. She also has a powerful size-changing suit that helped her defeat villains. If a Young Avengers team is assembled, will she lead? Admittedly, Cassie has competition. Kate Bishop recently got a crash course in heroics from the original Hawkeye. Outside of picking up a few advanced archery tips, she also learned how to properly assess dangerous situations and faced down one of the most intimidating villains in the MCU. Bishop also has the financial resources to fund a team. While the new Hawkeye and Cassie are great heroines in their own right, it’s still a toss up as to who would be chosen to lead.
#5: What is Victor Timely [AKA Kang] Planning?
In the final post-credit scene of “Quantumania”, Loki watched a variant of Kang that calls himself Victor Timely put on a public demonstration. The god of mischief seemed extremely concerned about what this version of the conqueror was up to. It turns out that a past Marvel storyline may give us some hints. In the comics, Kang wanted to make it easier for him to defeat the avengers in the 20th century. He decided the best course of action was to travel back to the 1900s and establish an advanced city that would exist before most of the heroes were around. Based on what we know, the MCU’s Timely will likely try to conquer his timeline without Avengers getting in the way.
#4: Will the Heroes Stay In Touch With the Quantum Realm Residents?
The heroes made quite a few friends within the quantum realm while they were trying to get back to Earth. Additionally, they also left a lot of smart, friendly and fairly large ants behind in the tiny universe. But do the heroes plan on maintaining these relationships? If another large army attacks Earth, it would be helpful to have a full battalion of insects on the side of good. Katy O’ Brian’s Jentorra also proved to be a mighty warrior that would be incredibly reliable in a fight. And if Scott wants to know what his enemies are thinking, William Jackson Harper’s Quaz should be able to get into a villain’s head. Hopefully, the heroes don’t forget to check in on their Quantum Realm friends.
#3: Did Kang Really Die?
We don’t blame Scott for wondering if he actually beat the conqueror after the final battle was over. When we last saw Kang, he got sucked into a device that was full of growing and shrinking Pym discs. Unfortunately, that’s not definitive proof that he died. Darren Cross famously survived getting shrunk down by Pym Particles after Scott made his suit malfunction. And he’s not the only villain that managed to survive an incident that should’ve killed them. If Kang managed to survive the pym particle incident, he would show absolutely no mercy to Scott Lang. One of the most powerful men in the multiverse might try to get revenge on Ant-Man in the near future.
#2: Was Kang Always a Part of Janet’s Story?
During “Quantumania”, Janet reveals that she’s been keeping her frayed relationship with Kang under wraps for years. But if she never had a choice? “Quantumania’s” Kang reveals that he was exiled into the Quantum Realm because he couldn’t stop conquering timelines. However, he shouldn’t have been able to do that. A variant of Kang called “He Who Remains” spent eons trying to prevent the multiverse from existing. It only came back once he was killed. But before this happened, Janet shouldn’t have been able to meet an alternate Kang at all. Was her memory rewritten after the events of “Loki” to accommodate the conqueror? It wouldn’t be the first time in the MCU that a bunch of people suddenly remembered that Kang existed.
#1: Did Ant-Man Actually Doom the World?
Since Scott knows he might’ve encouraged other Kangs to attack Earth, he’s left wondering if his team caused the end of the world. But the bigger question is if the planet will exist by the time any of the conquerors arrive. At the end of Dr. Strange’s second outing, the sorcerer is informed that he caused an event that could lead to Earth’s destruction. We also know that a very angry celestial is weighing whether or not the planet deserves to survive. And “What…If?” proved that a villain could arrive from another universe and destroy everything at a moment’s notice. At this point, it feels like Earth-616 is truly doomed. The only question is: which being will break the world?
