“Deadpool 2” (2018)
Beginnings are important, and Deadpool’s second solo outing on the big screen begins with the red-suited merc mowing through bad guys on a world tour. While engaged in a prolonged slow-mo shot of killing and mayhem\, Deadpool speaks to the audience and remarks on how glad they must be to have left the kids at home. He then assures them that they needn’t have, as “Deadpool 2” is a “family film,” citing several other movies for the whole family that begin with vicious murder … He has a point: Disney does love its parental deaths.
#9: Sheriff Deadpool
“Meet Cable” Trailer
Deadpool doesn’t limit his antics to the actual movies; he also breaks the 4th wall in his trailers. During the trailer introducing Cable for “Deadpool 2,” the cyborg from the future appears but his metal arm’s visual effects are intentionally left unfinished. This prompts Deadpool to act out the trailer with action figures instead. While playing, Deadpool’s action figure is dressed as Woody from “Toy Story,” and even delivers one of the character’s catchphrases. Sharp-eyed viewers will also note that the Deadpool figure has “Wade” written on its foot, just like Woody has “Andy” on his own boot. Deadpool is OUR “favorite deputy.”
#8: Pizza

Even before he became Deadpool, Wade Wilson worked as a mercenary. And the contracts he accepted were often rather... odd. One of his funniest tasks sees him break into a man’s house and order pizza. Although the tenant at first fears that he’s the target, Wade is actually after the pizza guy, who’s a stalker. Wade puts the fear into the creep and enjoys a slice or two while he’s at it. So where’s the Disney reference? Well, the pizza place is called “Feige’s Famous Pizza,” named after the head honcho of the Disney owned Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige. Feige was also involved with producing some of the early “X-Men” films. Quite the legacy sir!
#7: Roasting Hawkeye

Not only is “Deadpool 2” a family picture, it’s also a “mutants in prison” movie! Wade and young Russell go to a jail for mutants, where their powers are suppressed. Without the ability to heal, Wade’s cancer returns and he claims that without his abilities, he’d be as useful as Hawkeye if he had a bow and arrow. The Avenger sharpshooter is often the butt of many jokes due to his lack of superpower or armor. Fair points, but we’d argue that this potshot was still a little cheap on Deadpool’s part.

Since “Star Wars” is now part of Disney, we’re also going to count this as a swipe at the House of Mouse. While bantering with his girlfriend about baby names and being a parent, Wade brings up “Star Wars,” believing that its lesson was that children become just like their fathers. He also asserts his belief that Luke slept with his sister, Leia. While those kisses are definitely suspect, Mr. Pool, we’d like to continue assuming that nothing more than that happened between scenes! But, by all means, enjoy your anniversary with Vanessa!

Like his fellow comic book characters, Deadpool hates to waste the end credits. After the admittedly amusing animated credits in his 2016 solo film, DP appears in a hallway wearing a bathrobe reminiscent of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” While the majority of the scene pays tribute to that film’s post-credits scene, Deadpool also asks whether they were expecting Samuel L. Jackson instead to tease the next film. This is a nod to Jackson’s famous role as Nick Fury in the MCU, and his post-credits scene which helped launch the interconnected film franchise. We think that Deadpool’s usual outfit is plenty saucy – he does get a lot of blood on it, after all.
#4: “Cool Runnings”

Here we have yet another 4th wall break! While in prison with Russell, Wade is attacked by Cable. As the two battle, Wade manages to not only alienate Russell, but also sends himself and Cable tumbling down a mountainside. In a voiceover, Wade explains story structure to the audience, and how there’s always a moment in movies that acts as the low point for the hero. He cites examples, which include, bizarrely, “Human Centipede” as well as the Disney movie about a Jamaican bobsled team, “Cool Runnings.” Deadpool might want to give it a rewatch though, because we’re pretty sure that wasn’t the low-point of the film…

When Deadpool attempts to save Russell during a prison transfer, it all goes disastrously wrong. It starts with most of his team dying, and ends with him getting literally torn in half by the Juggernaut! While recovering, Wade needs to regrow his legs, which leads to him sitting around with no pants as his baby legs slowly get larger. Deadpool describes the look as full Winnie the Pooh, referencing Disney’s famed red shirt sporting, honey-loving bear. Weasel takes the description even further by comparing him to a pantsless Muppet .... As always, T.M.I. Weasel!
#2: Cable Is Thanos

We saw this one coming as soon as Josh Brolin was cast as Cable, but it’s still hilarious. During the final battle, Deadpool tells Cable to zip it, referring to him as Thanos, whom Brolin also played in the MCU. Not only does Deadpool poke fun at this connection in the film itself, but several of the trailers reference it as well. In one, Deadpool tells Thanos to “pump the hate breaks,” a line that was changed in the final film. In the “Meet Cable” trailer mentioned previously, during Wade’s action figure play time, he tells “Cable” that he “has the stones to help him,” in a great play on words referencing both the Infinity Stones and … uh, well you get it!

One of the most frequently recurring jokes in “Deadpool 2” is also one of the biggest digs at Disney. While watching the Barbara Streisand film “Yentl” with Vanessa and listening to her sing “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” Wade remarks that it sounds familiar. After Vanessa’s death, Wade drowns his sorrows in a bar, and reveals that he’s realized that the song sounds exactly like “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from “Frozen.” He proceeds to sing the songs off and on throughout the rest of the film. We’re never going to be able to unhear the similarity now! Although, given that Deadpool is owned by Disney now, if it means we get a duet of the latter song, we won’t complain…
