Top 10 Times Casts Pranked Each Other

Top 10 Times Casts Pranked Each Other
VOICE OVER: Kirsten Ria Squibb WRITTEN BY: Joe Shetina
When actors aren't filming, the real entertainment begins! Join us as we dive into the most hilarious and unexpected pranks that cast members pulled on each other behind the scenes of some of your favorite movies. From "Harry Potter" to "The Lord of the Rings," and from "Star Trek" to "The Hunger Games," these on-set shenanigans prove that movie stars know how to have fun when the cameras aren't rolling!

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the times when co-star shenanigans were just as funny and exciting as anything that ended up in movies.

#10: Emilia Clarke vs. Sam Claflin[a][b]

“Me Before You” (2016)
This 2016 romantic drama is based on a Jojo Moyes[c][d] novel about a caretaker who falls in love with a man who is left with paralysis of his limbs and torso after an accident. It might not sound like the funnest movie to make, but maybe that’s why stars Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin needed to let off some steam. During filming, Clarke started a prank war with Claflin. She framed him for the theft of a doll, he stole all the furniture out of her dressing room. Things only progressed from there. Then, Claflin had the bright idea to pretend he was actually offended. The worst thing is that we don’t have any footage of these antics.

#9: The Dark Knight Redecorates

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016)
It wasn’t just Gotham City’s Caped Crusader and Metropolis’ Man of Steel that went to war on the set of this 2016 mash-up. Well, really, it sounds like it was more one-sided than that. Indeed, Ben Affleck shared a video of himself sneaking into Cavill’s trailer while the Superman actor was gone. In the video, posted to Affleck’s social media, the actor reveals he had his co-star’s space redecorated with Batman merch. Affleck ends the video by defacing Superman’s likeness on the movie’s poster. This wasn’t the duel we were expecting, but maybe it’s the one we deserve.

#8: The Wrecked Porsche

“The Sting” (1973)
Two of Hollywood’s most popular leading men weren’t just co-stars. They were friends. And what’s better than an inside joke between friends? They got so close that the two began playing an elaborate prank on each other involving a Porsche. Annoyed at Newman for going on and on about cars, Redford had a wrecked heap of one delivered to his house. The two made a habit of passing the car back and forth in a worse state than before, until Redford had it placed in the middle of Newman’s garden. Apparently, after that, they just never mentioned it again. That’s friendship.

#7: Pranksters of Oz

“The Wizard of Oz” (1939)
According to a nonfiction book published for the film’s 75th anniversary, there was an ongoing prank war on the set of this beloved musical classic. Behind their cumbersome outfits, the actors suffered long days and hot lights. As the Tin Man, Jack Haley couldn’t sit down in his costume, so he had to find ingenious ways to sleep. Cowardly Lion actor Bert Lahr[e][f] also wore a rather heavy ensemble. Fittingly, it’s said that the two would often prank each other. One of the more famous incidents was when Haley was napping in his Tin Man get-up, and Lahr adhered several tomato can stickers to it.

#6: Radio Prank

“We’re the Millers” (2013)
In this 2013 crime comedy, “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis[g][h] play two people pretending to be married so they can smuggle contraband into the U.S. A scene where the characters are supposed to listen to TLC’s “Waterfalls” got hijacked by a fun little prank. The take begins like any other. But then, Sudeikis turns on the RV radio, and lo and behold, the theme song to Aniston’s hit sitcom begins playing instead. Her immediate reaction to hearing the Rembrandts[i][j] tune — and the way her co-stars embody it with their moves — is absolutely priceless.

#5: Crickets from Tiffany’s

“The Hunger Games” franchise (2012-)
Katniss Everdeen may be one of the most fearsome citizens of Panem, but no one seems to be all that scared of the actor who plays her. Jennifer Lawrence was the butt of a pretty wild prank during her time with “The Hunger Games” franchise. And let’s just say we don’t envy her in this case! This particular incident took place after her Oscar win for “Silver Linings Playbook.” When she returned to set, co-star Jeffrey Wright gifted her something from Tiffany’s, the luxury jeweler. Well, it came in a Tiffany box. In reality, it wasn’t just a piece of jewelry waiting for her. It was a box of live crickets.

#4: Neutron Cream

“Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013)
Sure, they played intergalactic soldiers with a handle on the intricate science behind space travel. But in real life, the cast of “Star Trek: Into Darkness” are just actors. They’re used to doing what they’re told. So when Chris Pine and Simon Pegg came up with the idea of “neutron cream,” no one really questioned it. Shooting at the National Ignition Facility, they roped the crew into convincing Benedict Cumberbatch and co. into wearing some to protect them from radiation. Apparently, this was pretty convincing. They wore the cream without even questioning the science behind it.

#3: Soaking Wet

“The Ides of March” (2011)
On the set of the 2011 political drama, Ryan Gosling and George Clooney were having a conversation. At least, that’s what Gosling thought. Once Clooney walked away, Gosling realized his pants were soaked. His co-star had done that with a spray bottle without him even knowing. Clooney is no stranger to pranks. He and Brad Pitt reportedly terrorized the sets of the “Ocean’s” series. Their antics apparently included covering co-star Julia Roberts’ hotel room door with shaving cream. During the second film, their prank war supposedly escalated, with Pitt convincing the crew they couldn’t look Clooney in the eye, and Clooney putting embarrassing bumper stickers on Pitt’s car.

#2: The Interview

“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003)
During the press tour for “Return of the King,” Frodo actor Elijah Wood[k][l] was in New York doing press virtually while his castmates were in Berlin. Wood couldn’t actually see who was interviewing him. So, when castmate Dominic Monaghan[m][n] sat down to do so, he had no idea what was going on. Monaghan disguised his voice with a German accent, and asked his co-star increasingly unhinged questions. By the end, Wood was so confused that Monaghan could barely keep it together. When he finally did reveal himself, it was a total love fest that made us wonder just how fun that movie set was.

#1: Great Wind in the Great Hall

“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban[o][p]” (2004)
Coming of age on a movie set has got to be tough. Daniel Radcliffe began playing Harry Potter from the time he was 12, and we can only imagine that sometimes, it made being a teenager awkward. His elder co-star, Michael Gambon[q][r], played the solemn Dumbledore, but it seems like he was anything but. Indeed, the actor placed a fart machine in Radcliffe’s sleeping bag and pressed a hidden button to activate it. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Alan Rickman fall apart over a bodily function. That’s one noise you’d never expect to hear in the Hogwarts Great Hall.

Which of these pranks was your favorite? Let us know in the comments.
