Top 10 Superheroes From Another World
VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
Script written by Craig Butler.

Superheroes need super powers, and super powers can come from all sorts of places. A common way to explain super powers is by making your hero or villain an alien. How come he can fly? Alien. Why can she shoot energy beams? Alien. As the sky, or rather galaxy is the limit, it does make for some interesting charters. Top 10 Ways Captain Marvel Could Change the MCU

When DC announced plans to revive the 1940s superhero named Captain Marvel, rival Marvel Comics stepped up and introduced their own character with that name. This Captain was part of the Kree Empire and went by the name Mar-Vell. Originally sent to Earth as a spy, he came to care about his adopted planet, putting him in a difficult situation with his Kree superiors. Captain Marvel was an integral part of the Marvel Universe until he was memorably struck down by a villain he couldn’t defeat – cancer.

#9: Howard the Duck

Star Wars Han Solo Film HIRES Ron Howard, FIRES Lord & Miller – The CineFiles Ep. 26

His comic covers boldly proclaimed “Trapped in a world he never made,” and that was certainly true. Howard was born on Duckworld, a planet in another dimension much like Earth, except full of walking talking ducks. He was accidentally brought to Earth when a demon named Thog who hoped to cause a convergence of realities over which he sought to hold dominion. The plan failed and the ill-tempered, cigar-chomping and highly opinionated duck was stuck here on Earth. Begrudgingly making the best of a bad situation, he found a human girlfriend and began fighting villains and saving the Earth – but not graciously.

#8: Raven

When your father is a power-mad interdimensional demon bent on dominating – well, everything – your bound to rebel against your parents. Raised in the dimension of Azarath, Raven was taught to control the demonic forces that lived inside her. Along the way, she developed great powers as an empath and a telepath. Pretty goth, eh? Fortunately, Raven joined up with the Teen Titans when she needed their help against her father when he tried to gain control of the Earth.

#7: Supergirl

Supergirl Vs Batgirl

The Maid of Might is the super-powered cousin of that big hero from Krypton. As such, she also gets to fight villains with super strength, flight, heat vision and all the other powers. She’s been through many changes over the years, but has always remained a beacon of goodness. Not even her memorable death in the Crisis on Infinite Earths story arc, sacrificing herself to save the universe, could keep her down for long. She may not have been born here, but she’s one of Earth’s mightiest and most determined protectors.

#6: Rocket Raccoon & Groot

What do a talking raccoon-like alien and a planet-based creature from Planet X have in common? They both managed to steal the show in Marvel’s 2014 movie “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Rocket Raccoon and Groot both originated, with somewhat different personalities, in the comic books, but they have found widespread popularity in their cinematic versions. And why not? Rocket’s wise-ass, cynical attitude contrasts perfectly with the big heart and verbal limitations of Groot. Together, they can kick some serious ass.

#5: Koriand'r - Starfire

Koriand'r, the gorgeous golden-skinned princess of the planet Tamaran came to Earth reluctantly, forced off of her own planet by her sister. Koriand’r liked Earth so much that she joined the Teen Titans and became the superhero Starfire that we all know and love. As a native of Tamaran, her body absorbs ultraviolet radiation and converts it into pure energy, which she uses to fly, create force-fields and blast away her enemies.

#4: Silver Surfer

Certainly one of the coolest looking superheroes, the Silver Surfer was born on a planet that was a virtual Utopia. When the mighty Galactus threatened to destroy his home planet, he agreed to become the villain’s herald and in return Galactus spared the Surfer’s home world. By seeking out other planets for Galactus to destroy, he spared his own. Upon arriving at Earth, the Surfer found himself defying his master and now fights against Galactus to protect Earth from Galactus’ insatiable hunger. The Surfer is blessed with something called the Power Cosmic and as a result has super strength, near invulnerability and an ability to manipulate energy; not to mention the gnarly surfboard.

#3: Martian Manhunter

The Martian Manhunter as forcefully transported to Earth in the 1950s by an experiment gone wrong and decides, ‘hey while I’m here, I might as well fight crime right?’. His origin has changed many times over the years; sometimes he is the last surviving Martian, other times he has simply been displaced from his people. What doesn’t change is Manhunter’s super strength, shape shifting ability and overall formidable presence.

#2: Thor

Top 10 Most Rewatchable Moments in Thor: Love and Thunder

Many superheroes are compared to gods, but the Mighty Thor actually is a god (soundbite ‘we are not gods!). Or not. Either way, Thor Son of Odin, is an Asgardian prince and self titled champion of Earth. With his mighty mystical hammer Mjolnir, Thor is one of the mightiest heroes in the Marvel universe. Always ready for a fight Thor will never leave a battle unfinished, and while his heritage left him with quite the superiority complex, his role as an Avenger has humbled him somewhat. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: Lobo Hawkgirl Red Tornado

#1: Superman

Top 20 Times Superman Went Beast Mode

Of course the Man of Steel tops this list. Since 1938, Kal-El of Krypton is more powerful than a locomotive, and has been stopping crime dead in it’s tracks for over seventy-years. Standing for truth, justice and the American way, Superman has clearly adopted the ideals of his adopted planet in a big way. And while he strikes many as a bit of an overgrown boy scout, there’s no denying that he is sincere in his beliefs. It’s all the more remarkable when you consider the tragedy he has endured due to the loss of his parents and his home planet. His powers made Superman popular, but it’s his heart that makes him special. Agree with our choices? What other superheroes from another world deserve recognition?
