Top 10 Battles Between the Most Powerful Pokémon

#10: Ash vs. Cynthia
After years of waiting, we finally got to see Ash Ketchum battle the near-mythical Cynthia. And, boy, it didnt disappoint. What made it even more impactful was the setting, with it being the semi-final of the Masters Eight Tournament. With both trainers being incredibly powerful at this point, there were plenty of moves clashing and causing explosions. If it wasnt for the protective barrier around the field, the crowd casualties wouldve been massive! The duo also whipped out Dynnmaxing and Mega Evolution as the battle lasted for 3 episodes. With both trainers down to their final Pokémon, Ashs Lucario, who had a very tough matchup against Togekiss, took the win against Garchomp.
#9: Lucario vs. Regirock, Regice, and Registeel
Speaking of Lucario, this fan-favorite creature, alongside how cool it is, was showing its might during its first appearance in 2005s Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. With Pikachu basically kidnapped by Mew to the Tree of Beginning, Lucario helps Ash and his friends to get the mouse back. As they venture into the place, Regirock, Regice, and Registeel, 3 legendaries, arrive to deter them with their potent power. With Lucario playing very capable defense with plenty of Aura Spheres, the Regis devastated the area by creating massive holes and spiky ice sculptures, as well as destroying a bridge. The trio essentially played a Pokémon version of Jason Voorhees as they kept coming.
#8: Ash & Hoopa vs. The Legendaries
While Hoopa constantly asked if people were surprised as it showed off its hoops abilities was annoying, it at least led to something amazing in 2015s Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. As the heroes faced off against the angry Hoopa Unbound Shadow form, legendary Pokémon were pulled in to take part in the battle on both sides. As well as smashing into each other and firing attacks, causing explosions, Dahara City was devastated by the side effects of the fight. Various buildings were wrecked, including one that was split apart by Palkia. Its never addressed, but we can only imagine how many people perished as the legendaries wreaked havoc in their clashes.
#7: Ash vs. Alain
Fans had their fingers and toes crossed in this battle as Ash took on Alain in the Kalos League final. Finally, the animes protagonist will lift a league title, right? Well, the battle was as hard-hitting as expected as the duo and their Pokémon put everything on the line. Yet it took until the final 2 Pokémon to really step up the power levels. With Ashs Greninja supercharged with Bond Phenomenon against Alains Mega Charizard X, the force expelled between the 2 shocked the stadium to its core as the battlefield was torn apart. The final move, with Ash-Greninjas Water Shuriken and Charizards Blast Burn, resulted in 2 explosions! While Alain would controversially win, the fight was worth it.
#6: Mega Rayquaza vs. Deoxys
While its a fight weve seen before, and which lasted for far longer, that being in the 2004 film Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys, the franchise vastly outdid this famous rivalry in a fraction of the time in 2016s Pokémon Generations. In an episode of around 5 minutes, the visual power between the 2 behemoths was incredible. Mega Rayquaza's opening gambit of obliterating the meteorite that held Deoxys, with the force glitching out cameras, let us know what we were in for. As well as causing explosions, Rayquaza tore chunks out of Deoxys as it did its best to block and dodge attacks. The duo destroyed space rocks and heavily damaged satellites in their fast-paced fight.
#5: Lugia vs. The Legendary Birds
If you want to see 4 legendary flying Pokémon lay waste to the surrounding area and each other, then 1999s Pokémon the Movie 2000 is the film for you. With the baddie Lawrence III attempting to capture the Kanto birds for his collection, which disrupted their harmony, the trio went on the warpath against each other for dominance. If it wasnt for Lugia stepping in, Ash wouldve been blown up by the trio causing an explosion! The 4 legendaries took out their frustration in graphic form against each other, the frozen sea, the islands, and Lawrences ship, with the latter being more than justified.
#4: Ash vs. Kukui
Theres no rest after winning. After claiming the Alola Pokémon League, Ash was set to face off against Professor Kukui, who was recently unmasked as the Masked Royale. Taking place across 4 episodes, the battle was fierce. But it really took off when Guardian deity Tapu Koko made sure it was Kukuis final Pokémon. After brutally taking out Naganadel, Pikachu was up. The franchise mascot against a legendary. With the duo exchanging one mighty move after another, Tapu Koko, with aid from its other Guardians, restored Z-Moves for Ash and Kukui. The duo then released the powerful attacks, causing electricity to blast into the sky. The power became too much for the legendary, leaving Pikachu and Ash standing tall.
#3: Arceus vs. Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina
When a fight involves essentially the Pokémon God, it's always going to be a catastrophic battle. Taking place in the 2009 film Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life, an angry Arceus, who assumed it was betrayed by humans in the past, took out its fury on Michina Town. The mythical Pokémon had no issue with slaying anything in its path as it unleashed Judgement. However, Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina came to the rescue to battle their creator. In most cases, a 3-on-1 battle would be unfair. And it was. But not for Arceus, as it switched between its Life Plates to unleash powerful attacks. If Ash and friends hadnt been sent to the past to change the outcome, Arceuss power wouldve destroyed everything.
#2: Mew vs. Mewtwo
One of the earliest powerful battles is still one of the best and set the benchmark for similar clashes in the future. After being mistreated by humanity in 1998s Pokémon: The First Movie, Mewtwo was filled with revenge. So, he beat and cloned various trainers Pokémon, causing Ash to fist-fight the legendary Pocket Monster. With a single move, Mewtwo sent Ash flying. If it wasnt for Mew popping up to save him, Ash would be dead. Then, Mew and Mewtwo went to town. When Ash tried to stop them by stepping between the 2 powerhouses unleashing brutal attacks, he turned to stone, essentially perishing for the first time. If it wasnt for the magical properties of Pokémon tears, Ash wouldnt have returned.
#1: Ash vs. Leon
For the final of the Masters Eight Tournament, Ash and Leon faced off. Taking place over a whopping 4 episodes, the duo gave everything they and their Pokémon had. All the powerhouse gimmicks were used, Gigantamaxes, Mega Evolution, and Z-Moves, as the 2 fought for the prestigious title. In fact, the amount of power unleashed caused Galar particles to destabilize, potentially leading to another Darkest Day for the region. If it wasnt for Eternatus breaking free from the lab and stabilizing the particles, Galar couldve been wiped from the map. Even after that massive warning, Ash and Leon used their Dynamax Bands once again as they finished their battle in an explosive fashion, with Ash coming out on top.
