Take It Off! (2014)

In a category like “Best Shirtless Performance,” you expect the crowd -- and presenters -- to be a liiiiittle bit rowdy. As Zac Efron accepted his well-deserved award, you could hear the clear consensus of, well, everyone: Take. It. Off. Zac was a bit bashful, but Rita Ora was not, and the presenter ran over to him and delighted in undoing his shirt. Instead of suffering through that awkward moment, Zac decided to go along with it and take the button-down shirt off. He even flexed his muscles for the crowd, and it became the highlight of everyone’s evening.

#9: Not Gonna Get Us (2003)

Top 10 Most Chaotic Award Show Moments Ever

Let’s take a trip down memory lane with t.A.T.u. -- who made waves with their catchy music, and a kiss in the rain that stirred all kinds of controversy. It may not seem like a big deal now, but back then, two school girls kissing in a music video was huge, so you can imagine the response to this liveperformance. The Russian singing duo flooded the award show with bouncy schoolgirls who chanted along with the song. Later, they all stripped down to panties and tank tops, but hey, critics could rest assured that the singers weren’t going to share a kiss on stage. The dancers, on the other hand, did.

#8: Who’s That Hippie? (1999)

Top 20 Most Memorable Graham Norton Show Moments

Ah, 90s Jim Carrey, that funny guy in your group of friends whose antics you can’t explain, but you laugh each and every time. That was definitely the case in 1999 when Carrey -- unbeknownst to EVERYONE -- came to the award show in disguise. No one could figure out why the strange, bearded man stood up when Carrey’s name was called for Best Male Performance, especially since Carrey stayed in character throughout his entire speech. And what character was that? Well after “The Truman Show” was snubbed at the Oscars, he explained that he was going to embrace his true self.

#7: Jimmy Fallon’s Ride to the Award Show (2005)

Also in:

Top 10 Hilarious Jimmy Fallon Show Moments

When you’re an award show host, the last thing you wanna do is be late to your gig. Fortunately, Jimmy Fallon got cab service from the Dark Knight himself ... then revealed that he has the caped crusader all over his underwear. We don’t blame Fallon for being star struck, but... TMI, Jimmy. TMI. But that’s not the only bump in the ride as the hero and the host found themselves in a high-speed chase, one that, rightfully, had Jimmy on edge. It’s fine, because Batman had time to... get him a Batman plush? And reveal that he’s... Napoleon Dynamite? At least Napoleon gave some great advice. Thanks, Tankman!

#6: Bruno Meets Eminem (2009)

If you’re going to promote your movie, you might as well do it with angelic style. That’s what Sacha Baron Cohen did -- sorry, we mean Bruno, the gay, Austrian, fashion journalist who’s trying to make it big in the U.S. Unfortunately, the stunt hit a major snag mid-flight as Bruno was lowered onto an unsuspecting Eminem, who isn’t exactly known for his patience, but really, would anyone be patient about having an unknown man’s ass in their face? Slim Shady’s entourage managed to get Bruno off of him, but the damage was done, and the rapper stormed out of the ceremony. Fortunately, it was all an elaborate gag.

#5: Mr. Timberlake (2003)

Top 10 Moments of Respect at Awards Shows

All Justin Timberlake and Sean William Scott wanted to do was spend an evening with some attractive ladies, but destiny had other plans. What appeared to be a malfunctioning key was just a thread in an elaborate web that connects us to... you know what, we can’t do that Architect guy; you give it a shot, Will Ferrell. At the end of a whirlwind journey full of potential orgies, black clothing, tight dance moves, and turbulent feelings, our two show hosts finally picked the door that took them to their destination. As for their dates, well, we’re sure the Key Maker kept them good company.

#4: Gollum’s Vulgar Acceptance Speech (2003)

Not everyone can be at the show to accept their award, but Andy Serkis was kind enough to send a video thanking everyone for Gollum’s win for “Best Virtual Performance.” Much to his surprise, Gollum trotted over and had a few rather... interesting things to say. After pointing out that he was the sole reason for the win, Gollum’s nicer side tried to smooth things out... only to be completely shut down by an angry tirade aimed at the cast, the crew, and even MTV as a whole. We suppose those long hours will do that to a guy like Gollum, hopefully that precious popcorn compensated for ... oh, never mind.

#3: “Cool Guys Don’t Look At Explosions” (2009)

A song that’s near and dear to the action star’s heart, show host Andy Samberg with the help of Will Ferrell -- sorry, Neil Diamond -- paid tribute to the most epic moment in any kick ass movie: the explosion, or rather, that shot of the hero walking away from the explosion. But see, there’s more to it than that. The hero doesn’t just walk away, the hero doesn’t flinch and, more importantly, the hero does look at the explosion. Why? Because that’s not what cool guys do. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the video was a fun, creative love letter to the action genre.

#2: The Notebook Kiss (2005)

Also in:

Top 20 Most Awkward Award Show Moments Ever

The movie has been building up to this moment, and finally, it happens: the kiss. Whether it’s that passionate moment between two people, or something that tastes of America, this definitive moment deserves its own award. When actors and actresses win this award, they tend to celebrate with a smooch... or they run out into the audience to fulfill our fangirl dreams. Out of all the kisses to hit the MTV Movie Award stage, however, we have to give it to the kiss between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, who stood on opposite ends of the stage before charging in to recreate the magical moment. Before we let the credits roll, here are a few honorable mentions: The Teddy (2008) “We’re Just Friends!” (2011) “Titani” (1998)

#1: Les Grossman Takes the Stage (2010)

Also in:

The Most Memorable MTV VMA Moment of Each Year (2000-2009)

What can we say about Les Grossman: eloquent producer, master negotiator, and one hell of a dancer, because really, how else would you end a movie like “Tropic Thunder”? Tom Cruise, a.k.a. Mr. Grossman, brought that energy to the MTV Movie Awards as he rocked out to Ludacris’ “Get Back,” but he knew there had to be something more to the performance -- it is MTV, after all. Enter Jennifer Lopez, who joined Grossman in a fiery performance full of well-choreographed moves, booty slaps, and pure bad assery. You gotta give it to Grossman for keeping up with her... or should we be giving J-Lo props for being able to handle him? Do you agree with our list?
