“Outlaw Star” (1998) Cowboy Bebop isn’t the only Space Western anime, as many fans of Outlaw Star will tell you. After hearing about the ultimate treasure waiting in the Galactic Leyline, the ragtag group set out in search for it. The opening helps to capture the wild nature of the show, complete with flashing lights and a killer J-Rock song. Focusing on straight up action, this opening always stirs that inner lawlessness within us to see what next grand adventure awaits for the crew of Outlaw Star.

“Fullmetal Alchemist” (2003-04) While many will argue fans argue that Brotherhood is the better of the two series, we still can’t get over this opening theme. The theme helps evoke the more fun and adventurous nature of the series. With a score that feels like we’re running to the finish line, this opening really helped to bring life to a loose adaptation of the popular manga - always getting us excited to see where the Elric brothers would end up next.

“Death Parade” (2015) When two people die at the same time, they are sent to various bars, where through playing various games, are silently watched and judged by the bartending arbiters. It's some pretty crazy and heavy material, so why not give an opening that contradicts the series atmosphere! Colorful visuals and animation dominates throughout the opening, with a sax-heavy jazz song, you can almost forget about the dark tones of the series. Needless to say, the fun opening still gets us pumped to see the judgements carried out.

“Mob Psycho 100” (2016) What’s more exciting than counting? With insane visuals blending “One’s” weird aesthetic and BONES studio’s amazing animation skills, we barely have time to register what is even going on with this opening. From students bouncing on mushrooms to ferris wheels and cactus hair-dos, we’re treated to quite the surreal experience. Yet despite its weird exterior, we are pumped to root for Mob, as he stumbles along to find his purpose in life, while containing explosive psychic powers.

“Gurren Lagann” (2007) Known for their hyper-active style of action, anime and storytelling, Gainax Studio managed to create a welcome addition to the mecha anime genre – complete with a soaring opening song. Boasting colorful visuals and a manic sense of action and adventure, we are always pumped to see what barriers the hot-blooded members of Team Gurren will break through this episode… Hell, they even kept it fresh by using the second verse half way through the season.

“Berserk” (2016-) With the return of our favorite one-eyed and one armed swordsman, we’re going to need a proper opening. Gazing into Guts’ past, we see memories of who he once was and what has transpired to lead up to him becoming The Black Swordsman. Filled with the series signature violence and level of cruelty, we are treated to some awesome 2D animation that makes you WISH the rest of the show had the same...

“Attack on Titan” (2013-) As epic as it is terrifying, the powerful score accompanies extremely fast paced action as we see the world within the walls. It has a small slow build-up, before a sudden explosive start to the action the series is known for. Humanity may be on the brink of extinction, but that isn’t going to stop Eren and his friends from trying their best to save everyone, and this opening feels like we’re right in the heat of battle with them.

“My Hero Academia” (2016-) Every kid wants to be a superhero, and Izuku is no different. Unlike most of his world however, he is born without any powers - but that won’t stop him. This intro theme helps recreate the feelings and determination our hero has, while not skipping on his lack of confidence. It pumps us up and makes us look forward to Izuku’s success as a hero, and development as a person. Every great hero has a rough beginning, but it seems that his day has come.

This opening is rife with tons of action, while sporting an anthem dedicated to our favourite hero as he takes on monsters of all shapes and sizes, destroying them with a single blow. The fast paced animation of the opening actually matches the action in the anime, getting us hyped up to see more crazy action unfold. “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” (2012-16) Starting the long Bizarre adventure is none other than Jonathan Joestar himself, a wealthy boy who’s life was turned upside down thanks to Dio. Their destinies bound together forever, so it is only appropriate to have the opening feel like the opening act to a play, as the stage shifts to various moments in Phantom Blood, while trumpets blare and an anthem is sung for JoJo’s journey ahead. All this leading up to the eventual climactic showdown between JoJo and Dio, we are all inclined to shout his name.
