Some scares are worth preparing for. Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anticipated Horror Movies of 2020. For this list, we’re looking at the most exciting horror movies slated to be released sometime in 2020.

#10: “Antlers” (2020)

While sequels and remakes tend to attract the most hype, certain filmmakers can conjure up excitement by simply being associated with a project. As one of "Antlers'" producers, Guillermo del Toro has gotten people talking about this supernatural-themed horror film. The "Pan's Labyrinth" filmmaker is not the only reason to look forward to "Antlers," as the film is directed by Scott Cooper, who has amassed a solid track record with projects like "Hostiles" and "Black Mass." Based on a short story called "The Quiet Boy," "Antlers" looks set to be a psychologically-driven gore-filled horrorfest that won't be quickly forgotten.

#9: “The Grudge” (2020)

Although the "Ju-On" franchise has continued to produce sequels, the American version has not seen a new entry since 2009's forgettable "The Grudge 3." That is set to change right at the start of 2020, with "The Grudge" reboot looking to give the franchise a new lease of life. A January release date is not normally that encouraging. Nevertheless, "The Grudge" has some impressive cast and crew names attached to it, including director Nicolas Pesce, who already has two intense horror films under his belt. The premise remains largely unchanged, with Kayako seeming primed and ready to terrorize a mother and her son.

#8: “The Organ Donor” (2020)

"Saw's" yearly release schedule during the 2000s caused the series to burn-out, with the only new entry in the last eight years being "Jigsaw." Even if it is difficult to get fired up for the ninth movie in a series, the fact comedian Chris Rock came up with "Saw 9's" story and is part of the cast is unquestionably a curveball. Not to take anything away from the generally pretty good acting in the previous entries, but "The Organ Donor's" cast is shockingly impressive for this type of horror film. Who could have envisioned Samuel L. Jackson appearing in a "Saw" movie?

#7: “The Invisible Man” (2020)

Universal Pictures' Dark Universe got off to a bit of a rocky start, but hopefully "The Invisible Man" can finally do justice to the classic monster movies it pays homage to. Loosely based on the H. G. Wells' novel and the 1933 film adaptation, 2020's "Invisible Man" seems to be trying to create a more personal modern interpretation, with Elisabeth Moss' Cecilia dealing with a horrible ex-boyfriend who may or may not be deceased. Director and screenwriter Leigh Whannell – who penned several "Saw" and "Insidious" films – adds further credibility to the project, especially after 2018's stellar "Upgrade."

#6: “The Turning” (2020)

Some stories are just destined to be forever adapted, and 1898's "The Turn of the Screw" is one such novella. "The Turning" will bring Henry James' eerie ghost story about a nanny in charge of two creepy orphans to the big screen. Along with Steven Spielberg serving as an executive producer, the cast mostly looks spot-on, with "Stranger Things'" Finn Wolfhard and "The Florida Project's" Brooklynn Prince bringing some serious acting chops to the roles of the children. Even though it would take something special to top 1961's "The Innocents," "The Turning" has all the necessary ingredients to be another memorable adaptation of this timeless tale.

#5: “Candyman” (2020)

Horror Villain Origins: The Candyman

Blending gory slasher goodness with socially relevant themes and effective performances, "Candyman" is frequently cited as an early '90s horror classic, even if the two subsequent sequels produced diminishing returns. Nearly three decades later, "Candyman" is roaring back to theaters with a direct sequel to 1992's original film. Co-written and produced by Jordan Peele – who knows a thing or two about crafting fantastic horror flicks – 2020's "Candyman" will likely reflect the original's racial and social themes, while hopefully preserving the shocking frights and gory kills. June 2020 cannot come soon enough.

#4: “Last Night in Soho” (2020)

This upcoming movie is written and directed by Edgar Wright. Really, what else needs to be said? "Shaun of the Dead" more than proves the English filmmaker can bring the scares and laughs, but "Last Night in Soho" is a bona fide psychological horror film, starring “The Witch” actress Anya Taylor-Joy. Wright's filmography comprises quite a few genres, but this is still new territory for the director, as the majority of his films tend to have a comedic edge. Said to be inspired by classic British thrillers like "Repulsion," "Last Night in Soho" will divide its time between the '60s and present day.

#3: “A Quiet Place: Part II” (2020)

Coming out to rave reviews and hitting big at the box office, "A Quiet Place" was one of 2018's most pleasant surprises, at least when it comes to horror — and proving once and for all that director John Krasinski is more than just Jim from “The Office.” The intense monster movie benefited from a stellar cast and direction that favored suspense and atmosphere over cheap thrills. It didn’t take long for a sequel to be greenlit, with "A Quiet Place: Part II" being set to drop in the first quarter of 2020. Krasinski is back in the director's chair, while Emily Blunt and the majority of the cast from the first film are also returning.

#2: “The Conjuring 3” (2020)

Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Four other films set in the same universe have been released since 2016's "The Conjuring 2," so it is about time the main series made a comeback. Details regarding the upcoming third entry are still sparse. However, once again, the focus will be on paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren. James Wan stepping down as director is disappointing, with “The Curse of La Llorona” director Michael Chaves stepping in, but Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are set to reprise their roles. "The Conjuring" has always felt like a throwback to haunted house movies of yesteryear, so hopefully 2020's sequel will maintain the unsettling tone of its predecessors.

#1: “Halloween Kills” (2020)

Top 10 Horror Movies to Watch This Halloween

As a direct sequel to John Carpenter's masterful and genre-defining slasher film, 2018's "Halloween" went back to basic by pitting Michael Myers against Laurie Strode. The formula proved to be a success, as two sequels have already been announced. "Halloween Kills" does have the potential disadvantage of being the second act in a trilogy. However, the fact both sequels were written back-to-back suggests this could be quite an ambitious collection of films. 2018's "Halloween" wiped the slate clean following decades of lackluster sequels, perhaps setting the stage for "Halloween Kills" to take Michael Myers in a terrifying new direction.
