At the turn of the new millennium, the reality series “Making the Band” documented the formation of a five-piece boyband named O-Town. From there, their 2001 debut album went on to achieve platinum status in the US and Canada, notably featuring the two Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles “All or Nothing” and “Liquid Dreams.” Though they disbanded 2003, O-Town returned to the spotlight ten years later -without Ashley Parker Angel - to huge success, touring their original hits, all while adding some pretty impressive tracks to their musical catalogue. Catchy tunes like “Skydive” and the funky “Chasin’ After You” truly demonstrated that the boys’ vocal capabilities and on point dance moves hadn’t gone anywhere.

Sitting quite comfortably among the best performing British boy bands of the early 21st century, the career of the Vamps has seen them confirm themselves as dominant figures in the world of pop/rock music in just a few short years. Initially gaining popularity in 2012 by recording cover songs and posting them to YouTube, they eventually released their debut single a year later, which didn’t only peak at number 2 on the UK chart, but actually debuted at that spot. In 2014, their debut album, Meet the Vamps, achieved a similar feat, while their second album hit the Top 10 in the UK, further catapulting their deserved success and popularity. The Vamps are a boy band that reflects the perfect combination of both instrumental and vocal talent, and have so far left fans satisfied with each album release.

Signed to a record deal and a Nickelodeon TV show at the same time, this group got so big that their success spawned four seasons and a movie about their lives in a boy band. Their enormous popularity saw them release three albums in 3 years, with each of them achieving global success worldwide. Meanwhile, their prominence and rise to fame both on TV and on tour helped return the boy band into the public eye. With millions of album sales, a loyal fan base, and four very talented members, it’s no wonder Big time Rush had the success they did. However, they have been on hiatus since 2014.

Oh, did this band stay true to their name! The Wanted almost instantly cemented themselves among the most desired and sought after boy bands of the 2010s with their self-titled debut. As their first two albums were certified gold in the United Kingdom, this boy band clearly did several things right. Known for their catchy dance-pop tunes, The Wanted have given us some memorable music that would well complement any great party playlist. Their most notable track “Glad You Came” sold over three million, yes you heard it right, that’s three million copies in the US alone, and established their overseas success. However, just like Big Time Rush, The Wanted also announce their hiatus in 2014.

Josh, JJ, Jaymi and George were first introduced to the world as Union J when they competed on the UK version of “The X Factor” in 2012. Though they finished fourth, that didn’t stop them from releasing music, and we’re pretty glad about that. Union J are the perfect example of true talent arising from a music reality TV show, with their debut album debuting and peaking at number six on the UK albums chart. With four top 10 UK singles to their name so far, there’s no doubt that the band are only going to get better and better – even if George Shelley – who was only added to the band formerly known as Triple J during the “The X Factor” – left the group in 2016.

Sell over 15 million records worldwide? Check. Represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest? Check. Record music with Stevie Wonder and Elton John? Check. Blue are clearly the best color among the boy band palette, and it’s easy to see why. After all, their first three albums went to number one in the UK and skyrocketed the boys to well-deserved levels of success. Though they went on hiatus in 2005, their 2011 comeback single “I Can” showed us they really could still make great music, all while retaining the great sound that originally gave them their fame. Their consistent music releases since have seen them mature into a well-established band, with four great singing voices to boot.

The “Kings of K-Pop” are none other than Big Bang, and don’t you question it, because this boy band has sold over 100 million records worldwide! The band’s wow factor never ceases to amaze audiences, particularly as they are known for their flawless choreography, vibrant costume designs, incredible string of catchy tunes, and extravagant live performances. Not only are they leaders in the K-Pop genre, but they’ve also taken it beyond their South Korean roots to expand the sound’s reach to worldwide audiences, and have performed globally to huge success. Though they argue that they aren’t a boy band in the strict sense of the term, with each of the four members playing an instrument, they do all share in the vocals and their powerful stage presence and attract females to their shows in droves. Thanks to their explosive performances, we will likely see them continue to be chart toppers for years to come.

Standing tall as the family powerhouse of boy bands everywhere, the Jonas Brothers were the main heartthrobs of females worldwide between 2005-2013. The combination of siblings Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas saw the group become three chart -dominating brothers that infiltrated the pop world with catchy music. With highly impressive record sales of over 17 million albums throughout their career, it’s also impressive that these brothers don’t only sing but play multiple instruments.
