Whether you’re a queen bee or a social outcast, everybody in high school talks behind each other’s backs. Upon meeting fellow misfits Janis and Damian, naïve Cady is informally introduced to the Plastics. Treated like royalty even during gym class, Regina George is carried out onto the field where her minions await. Karen Smith is the very definition of a blonde bimbo, attempting to catch a football with her psychic breasts. Gretchen Wieners isn’t exactly a brain either, but she does have a big head of hair full of juicy gossip. We wonder if her father’s secret recipe for Toaster Strudel is in there.

#9: A Cool Mom

If you want to know why Regina George turned out the way she is, look no further than her parents. Concerned with being cool above all else, Regina’s mom gives her daughter whatever her heart desires, including the master bedroom. Amy Poehler nails it as a stereotypical Valley mom, treating her dog like an accessory and equipped with a rock-solid boob job. Desperately wanting to be one of the popular girls, Regina’s mom isn’t the best role model, but at least she enforces drinking responsibly and safe sex. As for Regina’s father, let’s just say he wasn’t getting much use out of his bedroom anyway.

#8: Hit by a Bus

Regina George is such a be-otch that you can’t help but love her. At the same time, however, you can’t help but want to slap her. You might even be tempted to push her into oncoming traffic. As tension reaches its boiling point, Regina prepares to tell Cady where she can shove her apology. Unfortunately, Regina fails to look both ways and is stricken by a bus. Although this incident is foreshadowed from the beginning, it still completely takes us off guard. Cady even briefly tricks us into believing Regina’s dead. Despite Regina’s horrible behavior, learning of her survival comes as a hilarious relief.

#7: Four-Way Call

In a plot to take down Regina’s army of skanks, Cady gets the queen bee to express her feelings towards Gretchen over the phone. Unbeknownst to the dieting Regina, her insecure friend has been listening on the other line. Gretchen wastes no time calling up Karen, who Regina so eloquently referred to as a slut. The conversation comes full circle as Karen proceeds to blow off Regina, to which she says this hilarious line [Boo, you whore line]. Full of witty dialog and unexpected reveals, this is easily one of the funniest scenes Tina Fey has ever scripted.

#6: Heavy Flow and Wide-Set Vagina

“Mean Girls” has no shortage of classic one-liners we still find ourselves referencing over ten years later. This one in particular never fails to put us in stitches. When all the female students are gathered to discuss their hurt feelings, a victim of the Burn Book gets the ball rolling. She shares just a little too much information, though, discussing her tampons, virginity, menstrual cycle, and reproductive organs. Suddenly, it becomes apparent to Principal Duvall that he’s out of his element. Luckily, Tina Fey knows a thing or two about lady problems.

#5: Cady Meets the Plastics

At first glance, the Plastics might not seem like conventional bullies, especially to a home-schooled kid like Cady. Behind their innocent smiles, though, are nothing but condescending comments and backhanded compliments. From Karen’s confusion over Cady’s skin color, to Gretchen’s attempt to make fetch happen, to Regina’s use of the words “shut up,” our official introduction to the Plastics has one great moment after another. On the whole, this scene perfectly lays the groundwork for our favorite mean girls, who are required to abide by a strict set of fashion-related rules

#4: Regina’s Weight Gain

Top 10 Most Iconic Regina George Quotes

As part of her plan to destroy Regina George, Cady tricks her into going on an all carb diet. When Regina wears sweatpants on a Monday, her lunchtime rules come back to bite her in the fat ass. Even more degrading, Regina is reduced to shopping at Sears. Eventually, Regina discovers that the Kalteen bars she’s been eating aren’t exactly nutritional. The vengeful look of realization on Regina’s face is truly priceless while her ensuing hissy fit will have you laughing until it hurts. Learning of Cady’s deception, the queen bee declares all-out war.

#3: Animal World vs. Girl World

If people always gave into their primitive instincts, Cady likely would’ve taken a much more animalistic approach in her vendetta against Regina. When Regina uses the hunky Aaron to make Cady jealous, she practically invites her to jump across the lunch table and have a jungle cat-fight. Since this is girl world, however, Cady’s only option is to be as two-faced as her frenemy. Of course, if Cady actually told Regina what was on her mind, it’d only be a matter of time until they started pulling each other’s hair extensions out.

#2: Jingle Bell Rock

At the Winter Talent Show, a risqué rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock” causes Cady’s parents to show concern while Regina’s mom tries to get in on the action. A last minute change ultimately throws the entire routine off balance, resulting in a boom box colliding into Jason’s head. Fortunately, Cady thinks quickly on her feet and salvages the performance. It’s a triumphant moment for the Plastics. Alas, all the Christmas magic in the world isn’t going to make fetch happen. Sorry Gretchen.
