Intro: Bumping into a Friend

#10: Miles the Comic Collector

The Coolest Suits in Miles Morales and Where They're From

Even when you’re not swinging around as “the other Spider-Man”, there’s still plenty of cool references to find when you’re playing as normal Miles. However, you may have to be a little more observant to find this! At the beginning of the “La Nochebuena” mission, you’ll be able to explore the apartment a bit. If you look on the shelf next to his bed, you’ll be able to find a stack of comic books, and the top issue may seem a little familiar. Yep! It’s the first issue of “The Amazing Fantasy” to feature everyone’s favorite webslinger!

#9: Krieger’s Hiring

While our MojoPlays reviewer, Ty, wished to see more villains in “Miles Morales”, he was able to spot a few things referencing previous villains as well as a hint or two at possible debuts. One such reference takes place in the “Tinker Tailor Spider Spy”. As you access terminals and uncover Krieger’s plans, you’ll come across a monitor listing three villains criminals he may have been looking to hire - a cat burglar (Black Cat), a bunker gang leader (Tombstone), and of course, old Uncle Aaron himself, the Prowler. Who knows what other menaces Krieger could have considered hiring!

#8: Tugging the Heartstrings

We didn’t spend a heck of a lot of time with Kingpin in the previous “Spider-Man” game, but We did get to learn a little more about his personal life in “Miles Morales”. The mission “Underground Undercover” sees you infiltrating a decrepit Fisk Tower that’s now being used as a hangout for the Underground. At some point, you can find an open vault holds a portrait of a beautiful young lady. Judging from the password Ganke receives in another side mission, one can assume this woman is the only thing the Kingpin cared for - his wife, Vanessa. Could she already be dead in this story? It’s a possibility.

#7: Remembering Family

In the first “Spider-Man”, players had the ability to visit Ben Parker’s grave, but unfortunately, there are now more graves since the events of the first grave. As Miles, players can revisit Ben and May’s graves as both are buried next to each other. However, there is another to pay respect to. Just a few feet away lies the grave of Jefferson Davis, Miles’ father, with a lovely set of beautiful white flowers next to the tombstone. It’s a very somber moment for Miles. We should give him some spa--HEY, A TROPHY!! Freakin’ sweet, dude!

#6: Musical Mutants

As you swing around New York City, you’ll find a handful of collectibles from Miles and Phin’s childhood, commemorating all the things they did together. Despite that homemade hot sauce looking...somewhat interesting, our eyes were primarily fixed on a set of concert tickets you can find from these time capsules. You don’t have to look close to notice this “X-Men” reference! Could this be a hint at an upcoming game starring the New Mutants? Or are Miles and Phin simply fans of Dazzler and Cheney? We’ll let you be the judge.

#5: What’s Next, Jonah??

10 Hidden Easter Eggs In Spider-Man Games

We could spend hours hearing J. Jonah Jameson make himself look like a fool, and he looks even more foolish in “Miles Morales”. Although, one of his rants contains a nod to the several people who have donned the web-slinging persona. In the “Just the Facts” episode labeled “Disappointed Parent”, Jameson will freak out at the idea of seeing two Spider-Men swinging around New York before unknowingly name-dropping a few other Spider-folk. If only you knew, Jonah. Maybe “Spider-Man 2” will make ALL THREE of those come true and break the multiverse. We already saw it happen once!

#4: Mick’s Diner

It was so heartwarming to see Stan Lee make one last cameo in a video game before his passing in November 2018. With the man who changed comics gone, Insomniac found another way to honor his work, and they even tied a trophy to it. You’ll find Mick’s Diner somewhere in Upper West Side, and to the left of it stands a tall statue of the comic book writer. Below it is a message that reads “Dedicated with love to the man who nourished the hearts, minds, and souls of True Believers everywhere. Excelsior!” Our hearts go out to you, big guy.

#3: Goblin Graffiti

In the Greenwich Underground base, there is a hidden area where you’ll have to lift the crane in order to access it. Like many other places in New York City, there’s a crap ton of graffiti, but this location is a bit more special. On one of the walls, you can see graffiti of two goblin-like creatures with some frightening smiles - one covered in green fire, and the other in orange fire. Yep! These are references to the Green Goblin and the Hobgoblin, and both have yet to make appearances. Although after seeing that post-credits scene, we have a feeling this graffiti was another way of teasing their imminent appearances...hopefully!

#2: Black Lives Matter

For this one, you’ll have to complete every Activity in the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app. Once you do, you’ll receive one more Activity called “Thank You, Spider-Man”, which will lead you to the Financial District, south of New York City. Not only will you net a slick new suit, but you’ll also see the location you’re at suddenly turn into a giant mural for the Black Lives Matter movement. Not only is it one hell of art piece, but it allows the game to serve as a commemoration for this movement.

#1: Tribute to a Hero

This one was awfully bittersweet. In August 2020, “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular Wakandan King, passed away from colon cancer, and “Miles Morales” has a couple of ways to honor the actor. For starters, one of the time capsules contains a Wakandan flag that Miles and Phin picked up at a Wakandan Design Group Expo. But the real tearjerker occurs during the end credits. In addition to shouting out important figures from Marvel and comic book history, Insomniac left a heartfelt message honoring Boseman and his noble accomplishments in the film and television industry. Wakanda forever, good sir. We all miss you.
