To prevent her father from going to war, Fa Mulan disguises herself as a man and takes his place. Upon arriving at training camp, Mulan is determined to assert her masculinity. Mushu steers his protégé in the wrong direction, though, resulting in pandemonium. Mulan finds herself at the mercy of Captain Li Shang, who’s ready to make an example out of the disobedient soldier. This leads to a hilarious exchange as our heroine tries to talk, move, and spit like a man, but fails miserably. Her feeble attempts are wonderfully complemented by Shang’s no-nonsense reaction. Despite getting off on the wrong foot, Mulan and Shang share a strong sense of duty, which eventually helps them to come together as equals.

Rapunzel has spent most of her life cooped up in a tower, but she’s by no means a delicate little flower. When Flynn Rider breaks into her room, this plucky young woman knocks him out cold. Frying pans, who knew? Overcome with newfound confidence, Rapunzel puts her long locks of hair to effective use and ties the intruder up. Flynn attempts to win Rapunzel over with his charms and dashing good looks, but it’ll take more than a smolder to impress her. In order to reclaim his treasure, the notorious thief reluctantly agrees to accompany his captor on an adventure. Mixing well-timed slapstick with witty dialogue, this scene perfectly establishes the instant chemistry between our leads.

Traveling to the year 2037, Lewis is introduced to Wilbur’s mother, Franny. Lewis comes to realize, however, that this spirited frog conductor is actually his future wife. The film works up to a clever twist ending as Lewis returns to his own time and encounters his soon-to-be adoptive parents. Just a few seconds later, Lewis runs into a younger Franny and her band of frogs. Although everyone else assumes that she’s crazy, Lewis knows that Franny will grow up to be a brilliant, pioneering woman, as well as the love of his life. These kids are destined to share a bright future together. All they need to do is live by Walt Disney’s motto and keep moving forward.

After years of being confined to a castle, Anna is eager to get out and find romance. This lively princess seemingly meets the man of her dreams upon literally bumping into Prince Hans. Their first encounter is delightfully awkward, as the adorkable Anna says all the wrong things. Nevertheless, her humor and good heart appear to catch Hans’s eye. These two seem destined for one another, but Anna later meets another potential suitor in Kristoff. While he comes off as coldhearted at first, Kristoff proves himself to be loyal and loving. Hans, on the other hand, isn’t exactly the gallant prince he’s cracked up to be. The moral of the story: first impressions aren’t always everything.

The little mermaid is instantly drawn to Prince Eric upon sneaking a peek at him on his ship. Likewise, the unconscious Eric falls in love with Ariel’s angelic singing voice after she saves him from a shipwreck. However, this couple isn’t formally introduced until Ariel trades in her voice for a set of legs. Guided by Max the Sheepdog, Eric finds Ariel washed up on dry land in rags. She attempts to tell him her name, but suddenly remembers the price of becoming human. While they aren’t able to share a conversation, Ariel and Eric still have an immediate connection that’s cute, funny, and romantic. Our heroine will need to take baby steps in order to lock lips with her prince, though.

She might act like a damsel in distress, but Megara is also a fiercely independent woman. Even when the mighty Nessus clutches her, she is unwilling to accept help from a daring hero. Regardless, the noble Hercules just can’t walk away from a person in need. After knocking the centaur out like a true champ, Herc gets better acquired with the flirty Meg. Although Wonderboy will go up against fearsome beasts without hesitation, he gets butterflies in his stomach around girls. Meg can see that Hercules not only has big muscles, but also a big heart as well. This irresistible meet cute is sure to put a smile on your face…unless you’re the grumpy Phil or the jealous Pegasus.

Once upon a dream, Maleficent found young love in a peasant named Stefan (xref). In the original “Sleeping Beauty,” though, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip don’t immediately hit it off. This is largely because Phillip is a boy while Aurora is a newborn. Sixteen years later, a gorgeous voice allures a grownup Phillip in the forest. The prince discovers Briar Rose dancing with her woodland friends and singing a lovely tune. Cutting in, he sweeps the mysterious maiden off her feet. Despite being engaged to the princess he met years earlier, Phillip is ready to run away with the woman he loves. Neither realize, however, that Rose IS actually Aurora. It’s a classic fairytale romance that was simply meant to be.

This darling couple is united thanks to the phenomenon of puppy love. Resolute on finding his owner Roger a mate, Pongo sets his eyes on the attractive Anita and her dog Perdita. Since Anita has her nose stuck in a book and Roger is busy smoking his pipe, it’s up to Pongo to instigate a romance between the humans. Resorting to desperate measures, the determined Dalmatian brings Roger and Anita together, although they get a little too close for comfort. The two accidentally fall into a nearby pond and subsequently fall in love. Sparks also fly between Pongo and Perdita, offering two meet cutes for the price of one.

In Kenneth Branagh’s live-action remake of “Cinderella,” the titular character first encounters her prince long before the ball. (xref) This ultimately gives their romance more depth and room to grow. Yet, their meeting in the animated classic is just magical. When Cinderella arrives at the castle, it’s as if she’s entering a wondrous new world. Her enchanted evening comes complete with a handsome prince, who is awe-struck by the beautiful stranger across the ballroom. Dancing the night away with Prince Charming himself, Cinderella feels like she’s fallen into a heavenly slumber. Once the clock strikes midnight, however, Cinderella is forced to wake up from her dream.
