VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Dinosaurs have been a staple of film since the first special effects. Along the way they have gone from stop motion to CGI and changed with our newer discoveries and understanding of the creatures. While most films strived for some sort of realism, it doesn't mean we couldn't have awesome kick ass and entertaining scenes featuring the giant prehistoric beasts! Join http://www.WatchMojo.com and today we'll be counting down our top 10 favorite dinosaur movie moments.

#10 – Sharp Tooth Awakens: “The Land Before Time” (1988)

Top 10 Most Heartbreaking Animated Movie Moments

Kicking off our list is a scene from the children’s classic about a group of infant dinos that bands together to search for safety. Our favorite part is the heart-stopping scene in which Cera, the troublemaking Triceratops, discovers the body of a menacing T-Rex called Sharp Tooth. Instead of leaving well enough alone, she decides to play games, but wakes the beast in the process! Kids will be kids…

#9 – Sticking it to ‘Em: “One Million Years B.C.” (1966)

Also in:

Top 20 Most Paused Movie Moments

Today’s audiences are spoiled by (mostly) excellent CGI when it comes to dinos in film. But, aside from featuring the iconic Raquel Welch bikini, this 1966 classic used what was at the time breathtaking stop-motion to show us how cavemen with spears would take out a rampaging dino! We’re sure this is exactly how fights used to go down… Except for the fact that humans and dinosaurs never co-existed. Will someone put that thing out of its misery? Thank you!

#8 – Cowboys vs. Dinosaur: “The Valley of Gwangi” (1969)

Also in:

Top 20 Animated Movie Moments That Left Us SPEECHLESS

Nothing’s more exciting than mixing two childhood favorites together. When cowboys discover a valley filled with purple dinosaurs, they naturally recognize the inherent entertainment value. Instead of making Barney dance for children; they make it a circus attraction. Naturally, things don’t go well, and they’re forced to burn the beast to death with oil lamps inside a church. Have you ever seen anything this unholy before?

#7 – Pole Vaulting and Dino Riding: “Land of the Lost” (2009)

Also in:

Top 10 Movies to Watch if You Liked La La Land

In this hilarious scene, Will Ferrell is trapped in the Lost World and needs to get past a T-Rex. Armed with just a stick, he attempts to pole vault to safety. Unfortunately, that doesn’t quite work out as planned! Don’t worry, he’s okay: in fact he comes back riding his new buddy, and even slides down its back Fred Flintstone style!

#6 – Time Portal: “My Science Project” (1985)

Also in:

Top 5 Scariest Blair Witch Project Moments (Director Explains)

This ‘80s science project manages to give Doc Brown’s flux capacitor a run for its money. However, it also brings a T-Rex into the present through a time warp. Thankfully, the kids are ready with machine guns and explosive rounds that they picked up from another era. Anyone hungry for some BBQ?

#5 – The Stampede: “King Kong” (2005)

Also in:

Top 10 Times King Kong Went Beast Mode

Ever wonder if a handful of men with guns and Jack Black could outrun a stampede of dinosaurs? No? Well, you get to find out anyway. As if that scenario isn’t crazy enough, the narrow valley they’re being chased through leads to a cliff, which collapses. If that can’t kill Jack Black, nothing can! We might as well call him Chuck Norris!

#4 – What’s Cooking?: “Jurassic Park” (1993)

Also in:

Top 20 Scientific Inaccuracies in Jurassic Park

When raptors make their way into the park facility, they head to the kitchen to grab a snack. This tense scene plays off horror movie clichés in a bunch of terrifying ways: you’ve got the raptor peering through the window, fogging up the glass, learning how to open a door, and then the kids hyperventilating, dropping things and running for their lives. Admit it; you were biting your nails through this whole scene!

#3 – Extinction: “Fantasia” (1940)

This 1940 Disney classic is full of music and diverse segments, but its longest is “The Rite of Spring.” This piece begins with the birth of Earth and life, and eventually chronicles the entire duration and extinction of the dinosaurs. We’re pretty sure lazy history teachers would just put this brutal tale on for their kids and call it a day. Remember kids: that’s where oil comes from!

#2 – T-Rex Brawl: “King Kong” (1933/2005)

Also in:

Top 10 Scary Moments From Stephen King Movies

Both the original 1933 version and the 2005 remake of this fight are equally entertaining. In the black and white stop-motion, Kong fights a T-Rex in a brawl that must have inspired wrestlers and boxers: he ground-pounds his rival, bites off its ear, rips open its jaws, plays with it for fun and then beats his own chest. Cough *Mike Tyson* Cough. On the other hand, the 2005 edition features stunning CGI and ups the action by having Kong face three dinos, while also juggling the girl!

#1 – Must Go Faster: “Jurassic Park” (1993)

Also in:

Top 10 Jurassic Park Franchise Moments

Taking the top spot on our list is the most iconic dinosaur scene in history. No one wants to be around when T-Rex breaks out of his pen. This scene’s got everything: ominous water vibrations, a chicken-shit lawyer getting eaten while on the can, a Jeep chase, and best of all, a panicked Jeff Goldblum! Do you agree with our list?
