#10- Killing A Helicopter With A Car “Live Free or Die Hard” (2007)

Kicking off our list is scene in the 4th and long coming film installment in which an aging McClane is trapped in a tunnel. Pissed off, he uses a police car to charge the enemy, before leaping out and letting the car flip up into an attacking helicopter. Of course, it was a crazy gamble, and he got some bruises along the way, but his reasoning seems pretty solid to us.

With the second flick taking place at an Airport, McClane is eventually gets forced to lock himself in the cockpit when outnumbered. Cornered by grenades, things are looking pretty grim. Luckily, he’s a quick thinker and straps himself into the ejectors seat and goes for a ride, giving us a face-to-face moment with the hero, as well as an amusing one-liner…

Even still, it’s a frightening situation, made worse by McClane’s already bad headache….

Remember this water jug brainteaser from school? Well, it turns out to actually be useful, if McClane actually paid attention in class! This scene is memorable for proving that high school math does has some real world applications, rare though they may be. We’re pretty sure we wouldn’t have been able to pull this one off…Well at least there were no other confusing brainteasers in the film, oh wait…right…

We love how he finally gets the douchebag cop from “NYPD Blue” to finally listen to him! Good thing his hunch was right…because that would have been pretty embarrassing, and messy…

By the time the series had reached its fourth installment, the stakes had to be raised to ridiculous levels. In this instance, the cyber terrorists decide to send a military jet to take McClane down. Without a second thought, its pilot dumbfoundedly levels every piece of infrastructure in sight! Who needs terrorists with pilots like this…Amirite? Leave it to McClane to keep on trucking and even get into one hell of a tailspin!

#4- Barefoot Over Glass “Die Hard” (1988)

Can you believe that McClane made due throughout the original flick without shoes! Ultimately, he’s at a serious disadvantage for it, seeing as the bad guys shoot out the glass surrounding McClane’s hiding spot. Caught between a rock and a hard spot, McClane is forced to go for the exit, and pays for it dearly. At least he has the dad from ‘Family Matters” to talk to while administering first aid on himself. Thanks Mr. Winslow!

What makes this series so popular isn’t just the action, but the fact that its hero packs one hell of an attitude and a quirky sense of humor. This best comes across in a situation where he’s stuck in a vent, where he choses to vent about his situation! Thankfully, his brand of humor even allows him to laugh it up with the bad guys! But as usual, they only laugh because they don’t really get the joke…

After having saved the hostages, McClane needs to get off the building before it blows its top. Stringing himself up to a fire hose, he is thrown clear when everything goes boom. Left dangling barefoot and struggling to get back inside, it’s a nail-biting scene, especially since he is pulled towards the pavement by the very thing that saved his life, only narrowly freeing himself at the last second!
