Katara lost her mother in a Fire Nation raid, so friendship with a Fire Nation prince wasn’t supposed to be on the cards. Especially when that prince was on a mission to hunt down her friends. But when Zuko became a Team Avatar ally, Katara found herself forced to confront contradictory feelings. Eventually, the two form a bond, with Zuko even risking his life for her. We guess opposites really do attract. While their relationship was far from smooth, it’s not hard to see why many fans wanted them as a couple so badly and for so long.

While we know that Finn is ultimately all about Princess Bubblegum, he and Flame Princess had an on-again off-again relationship that a lot of us can relate to. Initially, Flame Princess was portrayed as unstable and even evil. But kind hearted Finn believed he could change her. Hey, it’s Finn - what did you expect? According to Flame Princess though, even though she had strong feelings for Finn, they’re just two different to make it together, no matter how much they both wanted things to be otherwise. See what we mean by relatable?

Sure, in “Teen Titans Go!”, Raven and Beast Boy finally become an item. However, in the original animated series, the show ends their relationship with a big question mark. Throughout the show’s run, Beast Boy had made his feelings for Raven obvious. Yet Raven remained stoic, and even sometimes cold towards the furry green teen - except for a few moments here and there when her feelings shone through. Ultimately, we just think that they bring out the best in each other, and really, isn’t that what a relationship is all about?

The quietest member of the Fletcher family, Ferb was equally quiet about his crush on Vanessa. But it was wildly apparent to fans when viewing Vanessa through Ferb’s rose-colored glasses. Thanks to Ferb’s charisma and dedication, we did get to see her being slowly won over. She doesn’t mind going to Paris with the gang in one episode and even gives him a smooch on the cheek as thanks in another. And in the flash forward episode, we’re led to assume that they’ll eventually become a couple. But, not unlike another relationship in the show, which we’ll get to later, we just didn’t get enough of it.

Though there have been fan theories as to the legitimacy of Spongebob and Sandy’s marriage in the episode “Truth or Square”, it’s never been confirmed by the showrunners. But the whole friends-becoming-lovers trope makes a lot of sense here. Spongebob and Sandy have a seemingly silly, but very deep friendship. For goodness sake, the fry cook even nearly killed himself once, just to spend time with and seem cool to the squirrel scientist. And then of course, there’s the karate. Of course, theirs wouldn’t be the only potential romance in Bikini Bottom. Just look at the heart eyes Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff have for each other.

Our first crush always makes us a little tongue-tied. And Gumball and Penny are no different. Their infatuation with one another during the first two seasons of the show was fun to watch because of the mess Gumball became around Penny, fumbling over his words and trying to impress. In later seasons, as the two started dating, other issues got in the way of their happiness, like Gumball’s best friend, Darwin, Penny’s thoughts on her own looks, or sometimes just Gumball himself. But we have hopes that they’ll figure it out eventually.

This one is kind of a slow burn. In the beginning of “Gravity Falls”, Pacifica was a bully, teasing and pestering both Pines twins. And it wasn’t until season two that fans got their taste of a blossoming romance between the two in the episode “Northwest Mansion Mystery”. Dipper finally sees a softer side to the blonde and comes to forgive her. The two still have their moments of contention throughout the rest of the series. But there are also moments of something close to love. The accompanying “Lost Legends” comic “Face It” shows her opening up to Dipper again and giving up perfect good looks to save the twins. Even McGucket mentions it on his Conspiracy Corner. Hmm… we wonder...

Star and Marco are another case of opposites attract. While Marco is a responsible, cautious Earth boy who likes keeping his things organized, Star is a reckless, adventure-loving princess from another dimension. Their problems aren’t their differences however, but their timing! They fall for each other, but at all the wrong moments. These best friends are ideal adventure partners, and have even danced and kissed! However, with both in and out of different relationships, they keep just missing each other. Our fingers are crossed that there’s still time for these crazy star-crossed kids.

This match-up might be the endgame for the series, but the characters just never seem to get there. Of course, this is in large part due to their secret identities. Although the two work together as Ladybug and Cat Noir in episode after episode, they remain unaware of who their partners really are. And even more frustratingly, they’re ignorant of the infatuations that both hold for the other - even rebuffing each other’s affections. We can only hope that, by the end of this series, they figure it out for themselves and come to be an item.

What are they doin’? Isabella has had a crush on Phineas for years. Everyone - except Phineas, it seems - can see it in her eyes, and hear it in her songs. Heck, she’s asked the kid to a movie, and once she even kissed him before a memory wipe. But though Phineas seems to like Isabella, he just doesn’t realize it and therefore, he’s incapable of telling her so, probably because he's been always too wrapped up in his inventions to acknowledge his feelings. But at least they finally got that sweet kiss in one of the final episodes of the series. And was it worth the wait? Yes. Yes, it was.
