Top 10 Anime of 2022

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anime of 2022 So Far. For this list, we’ll be looking over the anime that have rocked our socks off throughout the first half of the year and look primed to take the prize unless opposed. Think we skipped over a contender? Let us know in the comments!

#10: “Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy” (2022)

So, you came here thinking you’d be getting something in the same vein as Berserk, only to get…this. A self-aware, fantasy fight-fest, complete with an overpowered lead, heavy metal aesthetics and a harem that are dying to get their hands on the hero’s D&D. Yeah, this thing is a riot. Adapted from the beloved 80s manga, Dark Schneider’s battle against the forces of evil is the best kind of cheese. Seriously, every spell is named after a legendary metal band, and the horniness just doesn’t not stop. Plus, it’s opening slaps.

#9: “Ya Boy Kongming!” (2022)

Top 10 Anime Fights of 2022

Plucking out a historical figure and dropping them in modern times isn’t exactly a new concept when it comes to anime, but we daresay it’s never been this stylish before. What happens when famed military strategist Zhuge Kongming is reborn in bustling Shibuya? He adapts, becomes the life of the party, and decides to use his genius to help a struggling singer make her way through the music industry. It’s delightful, the songs themselves are great, and the whole series is just the best kind of vibe.

#8: “Sabikui Bisco” (2022)

You fan a mushrooms? Well, you’d better be. Because in this world they are the be all and end all! In a post-apocalyptic landscape dominated by a plague known as rust, a handful of survivors partner up to seek out a mythical mushroom capable of absorbing the illness, and in doing so perhaps save the lives of all those afflicted. Sounds bonkers? You don’t know the half of it. Between Milo’s wacky medical practices and Bisco shooting down living planes with arrows that summon mushrooms, this fetch quest is an absolute trip.

#7: “Komi Can't Communicate” Season Two (2022)

She may have trouble with her words, but Komi had no problem delivering all the rom com feels with her second outing. Once again thrown into the bull pit of eccentric students, Komi’s endeavor to make a hundred friends despite her crippling anxiety takes a twist in the road when feelings start to rise up between herself and unexpected gigachad Tadano. Seriously, their moments together are just too cute for words. Though it’s made all the better thanks to the introduction of fellow Tadano fanboy Katai.

#6: “My Dress Up Darling” (2022)

There are power couples, and then there’s Marin and Gojo. Exploding onto the scene with an abundance of genuine chemistry, unabashed sensuality and shared love of cosplay, the relationship these two share is so enrapturing, adorable and surprisingly charged that it practically blind-sighted fans. Whether it’s Marin bringing Gojo out of his shell, seeing what new outfits they can bring to life, or the two somehow ending up in the steamiest of situations, it’s safe to say everyone’s already craving more of this relationship.

#5: “The Case Study of Vanitas” Season Two (2022)

Top 10 Anticipated Anime Summer 2021

The first half may have introduced us to this world of vampires, curses and the unorthodox doctor determined to cure them, but it’s the follow up that really delivered the emotional heft. While there’s still some of Vanitas’ signature tongue in cheek humor to be found here and there, where this season really excels is in the dark exploration of our leading duo, with Vanitas and Noe’s bond being tested like never before. The action is as gripping as the loss is devastating, but that’s how the vampire boys roll.

#4: “Spy x Family” (2022)

Top 10 Anime Songs of 2022

Do we even need to say it? The pandemonium this series has created with its dynamic trio has practically made it a modern classic overnight. In order to take down a conspiracy that could plunge the world into war, the nation’s greatest spy sets up a false family to get closer to his target…completely unaware his new wife is actually an assassin, and his new daughter can read minds. The comedy writes itself. While the action is flashy and the meme faces just keep on coming, what truly solidified this series as something special is the genuine bond Loid, Yor and Anya all share – it’s utterly precious.

#3: “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Entertainment District Arc” (2021-)

Top 20 Demon Slayer Fights

It came out in December, but we’re still counting it, damn it! Just when you thought they couldn’t keep up the hype from Mugen Train, Tanjiro and company’s subsequent battle with the Upper Demon Moons amongst a pleasure district that more than delivered on the spectacle. Everyone got a moment to shine this season – from Nezuko’s growth, Uzui constantly coming in clutch, the depressing as all hell origin of our villains, and of course, the dream team pushing themselves beyond all limits to finish the fight. What a ride.

#2: “Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic-”

To say our favorite losers in love succeeded in making the mother of all bombshell confessions might be a stretch too far, but we can safely say that Kaguya and Miyuki’s threequel antics nonetheless gave us some brilliant pay off. Between school festivals and contemplating what their futures are going to look like, every character took their stab at love at season, even best boy Ishigami, and the results were predictably both hilarious and heart-warming. All we can hope is that all the grandiose gestures secured them the best ending route! Also, Miyuki is a rap god now. Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions! “Kingdom” Season Four (2022) “Teasing Master Takagi-san” Season Three (2022) “Tomodachi Game” (2022) “Ao Ashi” (2022) “Summertime Render” (2022)

#1: “Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Part 2” (2022)

Also in:

Top 20 Attack on Titan Moments

Granted, it’s not quite the finale we were expecting…and that’s because this is the Empire Strikes Back of Attack on Titan Finales, and we’ve still got a ways off until the actual ending comes around. That being said, this was phenomenal. As if the reveal of the Rumbling and Eren’s endgame wasn’t captivating enough, several key character arcs were beautifully realized in such a satisfying manner, leaving no loose end untended, setting us up for what promises to be an actual conclusion that’s bound to turn heads.
