Top 10 Anime That Need A Sequel

What happens when you combine zombies with a whole lot of fan service? You wind up with our first entry. The series follows a group of rather well developed high school students as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. While the series is able to set a solid groundwork for the group’s survival story in a mere 13 episodes and a single OVA episode, fans are left wanting a satisfying conclusion. Will the group survive? Will Takashi finally close the deal? We may never know.

Some people take gaming a little too far. This ever-popular series follows stepsiblings Sora and Shiro, two gamers who make up the undefeated persona known as Blank. The duo are able to triumph over the “god of games” in a chess duel, so they are sent to a world revolving around games known as Disboard to eventually usurp him. The first season is widely praised by the general anime community for its fantastic storytelling and visual art style. A second season is not out of the question though, as a rather vocal fan base and an open ending can change the future of the series.

The devil doesn’t always come to Earth to invade, sometimes he just wants to get away from it all. In this comedic story, we follow a reluctant Satan and his loyal henchman Alciel as they are forced to survive in modern day Tokyo after being driven away from their home. Survival requires cash, and eventually he finds himself a job as a fast food employee as the local MgRonald fast food chain. While the series concluded after only one season, the light novels are on going - so look forward to more fast food adventures with Satan.

A series where ladies transform their lingerie into weapons? Need we say more? This popular surrealist comedy follows Panty and Stocking, two fallen angels known as the “Anarchy Sisters” that have been cast out and most buy their way back into heaven by using their powers to kill ghosts. With only 13 episodes in the first season, there is no way that the Sisters trials and tribulations could be wrapped up that quickly. After all, it had what is probably the biggest cliffhanger ending in history.

In this unusual slice of life, we follow an ensemble cast of characters, including students Mio Naganohara, Yūko Aioi, and robot Nano Shinonome, as they live out their strange and mundane lives. “Nichijou” doesn’t so much focus on a complete narrative but focuses on character driven comedy. While the series has a massive appeal to Western audiences, “Nichijou” failed to capture the attention of the native Japanese market, resulting in poor sales across the board. So, it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see another season.

It’s time for that age-old question, science or magic? This series throws us head first into Academy City, a place filled with powerful individuals known as Espers. that possess bizarre abilities. Life is strange enough before magic users turn up on the scene bringing their own conflicts. It’s up to the lovable protagonist Touma Kamijo, who can negate other powers and his own luck with his right hand, to make things right. While the series has spawned two seasons and the spin-off “A Certain Scientific Railgun”, fans eagerly wait for the conclusion of the war between magic and science.

This adventure series tells the story of traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence and his companion, Holo as they look to increase their riches travelling around the world. “Spice and Wolf” quickly became a hit over its two seasons with the anime community, as it stays away from the traditional swords and stave fantasy tropes that flood the genre, focusing more on economics. Unfortunately, since the original light novel story finished quite a while ago, it might be too late to revive the anime.

Speaking of the economy, let’s look at the darker side that is gambling. We follow our protagonist Kaiji Itou, a gambling addict that participates in high stake games to stay out of debt. Running for two seasons as well as two live action adaptations, “Kaiji” treats anime fans to a dark and sometimes gruesome side of the art of gambling. Though we’d be more than happy to get an adaptation of any of Fukumoto’s other works, Kaiji sits high on our priority list.

Why don’t we start wrapping things up on a lighter note? This mega-successful franchise follows Kyon and Haruhi Suzumiya, two high school students who form a school club to investigate all the things thatgo bump in the night. Based on the monumentally popular light novels, “Haruhi Suzumiya” has spawned two canon and parody seasons, as well as a feature length movie, to support the original source material. The anime skyrocketed sales of the light novel upon release, but has since dropped over 80% even with the addition of new material. Has too much time passed for a sequel? We’d hate to admit it.

Seems like Immortality can be quite the inconvenience. In this crime series we follow a monumental cast of characters, from petty thieves and alchemist to friendly and murderous gangsters, as they unravel the mystery behind an immortal elixir. With an unprecedented story and memorable characters, it is no wonder that it left fans wanting the other volumes adapted too. While it is unfortunate that a second season may not be on the horizon due to the recent completion on the mega successful “Durarara!!” we can dream...right?
