Whether it's telling the tale of a hero who can control other people's wills, the magical and sometimes wacky story of a dragon slayer and his friends, a cult masterpiece about futuristic bounty hunters in a crime-ridden outer space, or the account of a teen who must show the dead the way to the afterlife, there are some anime series that just stand above the rest. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com counts down our picks for the top 10 anime series.

#10 – “Pokémon”
The awesome Pokémon video game conquered the world, but Pikachu and friends are also big stars in the anime world. Several series have been devoted to the adventures of Pikachu and Ash, one of the champions of the Pokémon world. And watch out: the little Pikachu may look adorable, but don’t mess with him – it’s not just his personality that’s electrifying.
#9 – “Code Geass”
Fans who get addicted to this show could claim it’s because the hero Lelouch is using his superpower on them. That power? The ability to control another person’s will. But the real reason they watch is to get lost in this gripping saga of a future world that’s been divided between three superpowers. Can Lelouch succeed in toppling the powers of oppression and kick some ass in the meantime? What do you think?
#8 – “Fairy Tail”
Magic and fantasy take center stage in this series. Lighthearted and sometimes a bit wacky, this anime still packs plenty of thrills into its 175 episodes. “Fairy Tail” follows the escapades of Natsu, a dragon slayer. He’s aided by flying animal partner Happy and by Lucy, who wants to be a full-fledged master of magic like Natsu – although maybe not as reckless. Or as hungry.
#7 – “Naruto”
Adolescence is never easy – especially when your body is the prison of a ferocious demon and everyone in your village knows it. Still, courageous, slightly knuckleheaded Naruto is determined to earn the love of his town by becoming its most powerful ninja. This incredibly popular anime ran for 220 episodes in its original form, then spawned another long-running sequel in “Naruto Shippuuden.”
#6 – “Cowboy Bebop”
“Cowboy Bebop” is a cult masterpiece about futuristic bounty hunters in a crime-ridden outer space. The five members of the ship bebop are a mixed bag of character types, led by captain Jet Black and his partner Spike. Everyone has something in their pasts, and their pasts find ways of intruding on their present lives. Complex and compelling on one level, an action-packed thrill ride on another, “Cowboy Bebop” constantly surprises.
#5 – “Bleach”
It’s a bummer being a teen-ager. It’s even worse when you have to spend your free time defeating evil spirits and showing dead people the way to the afterlife. That’s the problem for Ichigo Kurosaki, star of “Bleach.” He’s an ordinary guy who suddenly becomes a grim reaper. Headstrong and rash, Ichigo doesn’t always pick the easiest way to do his job – but he does pick the most interesting.
#4 – “One Piece”
Pirates run rampant in “One Piece,” and so does the pure, unadulterated sense of innocent adventure. Monkey D. Luffy, our young hero, hunts the world in search of the One Piece, the ultimate pirate treasure, which will make him the Pirate King. It’s not stretching things to say that Monkey’s amazing rubbery powers give him an advantage. But it’s his rollicking sense of fun and curiosity that give him the edge in his quest.
#3 – “Dragon Ball Z”
“Dragon Ball Z” works the “epic” side of the anime street, with far-ranging storylines and high stakes that test the skills of hero Goku and his son Gohan. It’s also a family saga, involving not only Goku and Gohan but eventually Gohan’s daughter, Pan. The “dragon ball” refers to sources of magic power, which can come in handy when trying to save the entire world from massive destruction.
#2 – “Death Note”
Piece of advice: Don’t read notebooks left by gods of death unless you’re ready to face the consequences. In “Death Note,” 17-year-old Yagami Light delves into one such notebook, and he suddenly has the power to cleanse the world of evil. But having the power of a God has its down side, as Yagami soon learns.
#1 – “Fullmetal Alchemist”
“Fullmetal Alchemist” and its sequel series, “Brotherhood,” both take place on an alternate Earth where alchemical transmutation is possible. Edward Elric is an expert, or fullmetal, alchemist on a quest: to restore both his own and his brother’s damaged bodies. For this they must find the all-powerful Philosopher’s Stone; unfortunately pesky distractions, like diabolical threats to destroy their whole country, keep getting in the way of their quest.
