Nickelodeon really knows how to make you remember a show. Welcome to MsMojo, and today, we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Animated Nickelodeon Theme Songs! For this list, we’re looking at some of the best theme songs across all animated shows on Nickelodeon.

#10: “CatDog” (1998-2005)

Yeah, everyone remembers “CatDog”, right? It may not be as recognizable to the newer generation of kids, but the show’s theme song is still fondly remembered by many. “CatDog’s” theme briefly explains the concept of the series with a catchy country song. You also get a glimpse at some of the other characters you’ll see throughout the seasons, such as the Greaser Dogs, Rancid Rabbit, and Winslow. It might take a little time to memorize the lyrics, but the chorus will stick in your head for a while.

#9: “The Loud House” (2016-)

Well, this is a tune certainly fitting for this kind of show… “The Loud House” features a theme song that, while it is LOUD at times, does nothing but excel in getting the tone of the show across. The frantic rhythm helps convey the chaotic lifestyle of the series’ main character, Lincoln Loud, while showing the positive side of having a large number of siblings. It may not strike a chord with every viewer, but its chorus is bound to get stuck in your head. So, don’t be shocked if you find yourself humming it.

#8: “My Life as a Teenage Robot” (2003-09)

Speaking of hectic lifestyles, could you imagine being teenage robot with abilities that could prevent cataclysmic events? “My Life as a Teenage Robot” boasts an incredible theme song that you could spend hours rocking out to. With an excellent vocal performance by Jennifer Karr, the way the song is composed does so much to get us hyped for Jenny’s latest adventure. Our only complaint is that we wish it had an extended version. Seriously, with amazing lyrics like that, how can you not write a full song?

#7: “Rocko’s Modern Life” (1993-96)

Of all of the theme songs we’ve heard, “Rocko’s Modern Life” has to be the most bizarre one on Nickelodeon. Nonetheless, it also has an interesting history of going through several changes throughout the show’s lifetime. While the first season would have the strangest tune, future seasons would go through a major change in music. If the vocals sound familiar, it’s because the B-52’s would perform the theme music from Season 2 onwards. When you think about it, their musical style fits well into a cartoon as abstract as “Rocko’s Modern Life.”

#6: “The Fairly OddParents” (2001-17)

“The Fairly OddParents” has had a sizeable history of memorable music. (Anyone else find themselves humming “My Shiny Teeth and Me?”) This shouldn’t come as a surprise since the show’s opening theme is just as infectious. In addition to the upbeat jazz melody, the song’s lyrics manage to explain the concept of the show, which lets new viewers jump into any episode without missing anything important. The only downside to this theme is that the newer version changes the lyrics, which disrupts the even flow the original had. At least it makes the old version shine brighter!

#5: “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” (2002-06)

The second we hear that countdown, we know exactly what show is about to begin! “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” is unique in how provides a rockin’ intro while keeping the science fiction vibes. However, this wasn’t something created just for the show. It’s actually the same theme song made for the movie, but modified and performed by American rock band Bowling for Soup. That version can be found on the movie’s official soundtrack, and with its jammin’ rhythm, the full song is well-worth listening to.

#4: “Danny Phantom” (2004-07)

Whoever knew a cartoon about a boy with ghost powers would be accompanied by a tune that’s so funky? The moment we hear that tasty bass guitar, our eyes are glued on “Danny Phantom.” In addition to the sick beats, “Danny Phantom” provides the titular character’s backstory in a catchy melody. This allows any new viewer to understand the story without getting bogged down by unnecessary details, and the steady pace lets viewers learn the lyrics with ease. In hindsight, they could have made a filler episode out of the backstory, but this was an exceptional way of going about it!

#3: “Hey Arnold!” (1996-2004)

Whereas most Nicktoons go for a theme that’s energetic and explains their concept, “Hey Arnold” starts each episode with a casual, big band tune. In comparison to the other hits on the network, this seems like an unconventional approach. And yet, it succeeds in presenting the show’s calm atmosphere, displaying a few absurd moments without getting too crazy. It also does a decent job at giving the spotlight to nearly every character, major and minor. “Hey Arnold” may not have a visual spectacle to kick off episodes, but it doesn’t need one, and at least you’ll never forget who the star is.

#2: “Rugrats” (1991-2004)

Sometimes, you don’t need catchy lyrics in order to have a memorable theme song, and “Rugrats” certainly proves that. Even withoutwatching the footage, the light-hearted tune makes the show instantly recognizable with its innocent tone and serves as a pleasant opening to every episode. The theme song would go through a slight change later in the series, opting for a bit of a faster pace and energetic tone. Thankfully, this didn’t affect the overall melody and provided a more vibrant feeling. Regardless if you were an avid fan or a casual viewer, “Rugrats” held one of the most distinguishable theme songs you could hear on the network. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few Honorable Mentions: “Rocket Power” (1999-2004) “Doug” (1991-94) “ChalkZone” (2002-08)

#1: “SpongeBob SquarePants” (1999-)

Honestly, are you at all surprised? “SpongeBob SquarePants” has the privilege of owning one of the most recognizable theme songs in the history of television. It successfully captures the fun and silly atmosphere of the show while introducing its nautical star to any new viewers (as if no one has heard of SpongeBob by now…) Spongebob has become such a cultural icon that the mere question of “Are you ready, kids?” will get any child (and most adults) excited to see what’s in store for our absorbent friend. Don’t be surprised if the next SpongeBob movie you see is filled with people who are singing along.
