In less than two months, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits the big screen. With fan anticipation building, so too does expectation within the industry. After The Force Awakens smashed box office records, including becoming the highest grossing opening weekend of all time, Box Office Pro estimates that its sequel, The Last Jedi will earn $215 million dollars on opening weekend, good enough to sit just behind its predecessor which raked in $247 million. Box Office Pro also thinks The Last Jedi will fall short of The Force Awakens’ numbers in terms of total gross, estimating the final total will land at $742 million, around 20 percent less than The Force Awakens’ $936 million. The sequel, whose ensemble cast includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Adam Driver, will be released December 15th.

It’s finally here! Earlier this week, the first trailer to Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated film, Phantom Thread was released and it has Hollywood buzzing. The movie, which reunites PTA and his lead actor Daniel Day-Lewis - for the first time since There Will Be Blood nearly 10 years ago - will mark the actor’s final performance on screen, as he’s set to retire. The film is about Day-Lewis’ Reynolds Woodcock, a famous dressmaker in 1950s post-war London, who falls in love with a woman who disrupts his seemingly tidy and tailored life. The trailer is subtle in what it gives away in terms of plot, but makes up for it with beautiful visuals, stunning gowns and tremendous acting from one of the greatest of his generation. With two heavyweights in PTA and Day-Lewis teaming up once again, awards chatter is already heating up, with many critics predicting a fourth Oscar-win for the iconic thespian. Sadly, Hugh Jackman’s run as Wolverine has come to an end. But that doesn’t quite mean the storyline is over. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Logan director James Mangold discussed the idea of passing over the torch, or in this case, claws, to Dafne Keen and Laura, AKA X-23. Mangold expressed his eagerness to jump into an X-23 spinoff, citing Patty Jenkins’ success with Wonder Woman as a giant step for female-fronted films. “Patty's success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist,” Mangold said. “Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her?' And that's where we are with that right now, dreaming." Mangold has yet to decide what direction he’d like the film to go, as he’s not committed to sticking with a dark, neo-western style as he did with Logan.
