Get ready for sleepless nights! We're diving into the most anticipated spine-chilling games that will have you checking under your bed. From cosmic horrors in space to dinosaur survival nightmares, these upcoming titles promise to deliver fresh scares and innovative gameplay mechanics that will test your courage. Our countdown includes claymation nightmares, dark web horrors, Japanese psychological terror, and the return of beloved franchises. Which upcoming horror game has you most excited? Let us know in the comments below!

“The Midnight Walk” (2025)

Sometimes absurdity makes for the best horror, and there’s no other game embracing the uncanny valley quite like this insidious spectacle. Utilising claymation like its straight out of a Burton movie, The Midnight Walk sees players take on the mantle of protector as they guide their cindery little monster friend through a world without fire – and encounter every kind of stop-motion horror along the way. While the style and vibe is something we are all in on, the thought of getting up close and personal with these creatures in VR might be more than we can stomach.

“Directive 8020” (2025)

Whether you love them or hate them, the Dark Pictures Anthology is here to stay, and is certainly unafraid of tackling every subgenre of horror under the sun. Case and point - Directive 8020, a sci-fi fright fest self-described as “The Thing in Deep Space”. Given how the titles that came before it have all been driven by player choice, often with deadly consequences, being stuck on a spaceship with a shapeshifting, murderous alien sounds like the perfect match for Supermassive’s brand of gameplay! Maybe this one can stick the landing?

“darkwebSTREAMER” (TBA)

There are few places scarier in the modern world than the dark side of the internet, hence why its become the focal point of so many horror games as of late. This…looks like it has the potential to be the scariest of the bunch. With roguelike mechanics acting as the crux of the gameplay, darkwebSTREAMER will have players diving into the sinister side of streaming culture, parasocial-relationships and the inevitable burnout of content creators. Oh, and its version of the internet is also procedurally generated! Color us intrigued.

“I Hate This Place” (2025)

Based on the equally wacky and bloody comic by Kyle Starks, I Hate This Place does what it says on the tin – given that it’s an isometric open world horror game, where you’ll be forced to fight the worst things you can imagine. With gameplay that harkens back to the Resident Evil days of yore, even the abundance of colour and retro-aesthetic of its monsters hasn’t diminished the scare-factor. Much like Crow Country before it, we’re all for games that can consistently keep us on the edge of our seats while also experimenting with a much broader visual palette.

“Deathground” (2025)

The premise for this game is simple, genius, and absolutely terrifies us. What if you take the mechanics of Alien Isolation…but swap out the aliens for a crap-ton of dinosaurs. That’s it. Either solo or with friends, Deathground pits players in a real life Jurassic park where carnivorous monsters are lurking everywhere. You have no way to fight back, only a scanner to give you a heads up when you’re surrounded. Between being hunted by raptors or chased by a T-Rex this has the potential to actually make us fear the prehistoric once again.

“Animal Use Protocol” (TBA)

Nothing spells doom and gloom quite like an animal research facility, so what better place to set your horror game? Along with their talking rat companion, players will take on the role of a super-intelligent chimp, having to use their wits and gravity manipulation tools to escape a facility that has apparently gone to the dogs. Or at least…whatever those horribly mutated things are. Get ready for chase-sequences that will leave you hating humanity almost as much as our chimp and rat duo!

“OD” (TBA)

We know literally next to nothing about this game aside from a pre-production trailer that had the members of the cast reciting a creepy series of nonsensical phrases. Oh, and the whole thing is being helmed by Hideo Kojima with the assistance of superstar writer-director Jordan Peele. That alone is enough to get us excited, because whatever nightmare these two can conjure up together is bound to be effective. PT was bad enough, can you imagine how much more unsettling it's going to be with Peele’s horror sensibilities added to the mix?

“Silent Hill f” (2025)

After the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, it seems that this legendary franchise is once again on the comeback trail, and this time they’re completely changing lanes. Going from a typical western locale to a 1960’s Japanese village, Konami is going all in on bringing some homegrown horror back to the forefront, so much so they’ve hired the writer responsible for the Higurashi When They Cry visual novel. If you know, you know. Given how powerful previous titles like Fatal Frame have been, this new take has every chance of redefining Silent Hill’s future direction, as well as just how voracious its scares can be.

“Alien Isolation” Sequel (TBA)

We’re under no illusion that it’s going to take years upon years before we even see a single frame of this sequel, but the most important thing is that it IS happening. Creative Assembly have finally heard our cries, have got back on the xeno-saddle, and are in the process of giving us a follow up to what might just be not only the greatest Alien game of all time, but also one of the scariest games of the modern era. Can we expect to see Amanda Ripley return? Are they going to move away from the claustrophobic nature of a space station? As long as they can bring back the same level of tension, we’re ready to be petrified once again!

“Reanimal” (2025)

While the likes of Little Nightmares 3 is set to debut at some point this year, it has since become overshadowed with the reveal of this hellishly beautiful title from the creators of the original Little Nightmares games. While both have co-op, only one has giant mutated animals that made us nearly leap out of our skin upon reveal. From the trailer alone, Reanimal has shown itself to be utterly saturated in dread, not only presenting monsters that make us question the developers’ sanity, but also a story centred around a group of children seeking to find their missing friends, uncovering their past traumas along the way. Bring on the nightmare fuel.
