Join us as we explore the most challenging secrets hidden within the Mortal Kombat franchise, featuring notorious unlockables that had fans pulling their hair out in frustration. Our countdown includes the elusive Ultimate EJB Menu, the grueling Bandage Mileena costume, the RNG-heavy Maskless Variants, and more! Which of these brutal challenges did you manage to complete? Let us know in the comments below!

Mokap & Blaze

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002)

For a clunky lummox and a bad joke character, the unlock requirements for Mokap and Blaze are way too demanding for what youre getting. To unlock these two, youre going to have to complete every single characters Konquest missions. These missions are essentially tutorials in complex combos and special abilities. Sounds easy, but as with every fighting game player, some characters will be harder to grasp for some people. Again, the effort you have to put in here to unlock a fire ninja and a mocap performer is more than most would care to put in.

VS. Characters

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (2005)

Whereas Mokap and Blaze demand completion in Deadly Alliance, the secret characters in Shaolin Monks ask for more obtuse conditions to be met. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the easiest as they only require you to beat the game in co-op. But characters like Johnny Cage, Baraka, and the rest require you to uncover secret paths, destroy very specific objects, and sometimes, kill a number of enemies in very specific ways. And since the game does not hint at how to unlock these characters at all, its virtually impossible to figure out their requirements without a guide.

Pong

Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection (2011)

Normally, collections of old games dont contain many secrets outside of maybe some new concept art or even developer interviews. Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection, on the other hand, gives you an entire game under certain conditions. It is possible to unlock and play a few rounds of the classic video game that ignited this whole industry: Pong! Few will ever rise to the challenge to unlock this, though. To play Pong, you will have to sit through two hundred fifty Versus matchesin one sitting. Get your counters ready!

Floyd

Mortal Kombat 1 (2023)

Of all the unlockables on this list, Floyd is the most annoying to unlock. This secret boss fight was added in a post-launch update for Mortal Kombat 1, and it gets obnoxious rather quickly. The rainbow ninja will only appear once you have beaten ten mysterious, randomly selected challenges. Heres the kicker - MK1 pulls ten random challenges from a pool of thirty-seven for each player, and it does not tell you which ten youve been assigned until you complete them. In other words, youre basically going to have to bounce from challenge to challenge and hope for the best. Oh, and if you fail to defeat Floyd, you have to do all ten of your challenges AGAIN.

Meat

Mortal Kombat 4 (1997)

Meat might just be the ultimate joke character for Mortal Kombat. Come on, who doesnt want to kick ass as an endlessly bleeding skeleton? If this is indeed your fantasy, Mortal Kombat 4 is going to make you work for it as youll need to beat the game with all sixteen playable characters. Obviously, Fujins ladder will be easy to blast through thanks to that broken crossbow move. As for the rest, youll just have to get good and learn their movesets.

Maskless Variants

Mortal Kombat 11 (2019)

Ask any MK11 veteran, and theyll tell you just how stupid this games Krypt was. Heck, ask any gamer in general, and the one thing theyll tell you that sucks about some games is RNG. MK11s Krypt was entirely built on RNG as the Shrine and chests give randomized rewards, and if you want the maskless variants of certain characters, youll have to grind like a madman. The only way to unlock maskless variants was to dump seventy-five thousand Koins into the Shrine. While this would guarantee you a new piece of gear, the cost was too great for a measly percentage in obtaining one.

Outtake Reel

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997)

Its always fun seeing bloopers and outtakes from our favorite video games. Heck, even Mortal Kombat Mythologies has a somewhat wholesome reel of actors messing up lines. But is it worth all the trouble to unlock it? To see the reel yourself, you will have to suffer through Mythologies with all of its cheap deaths, broken controls, and corny cutscenes. Or you can just do what we did and go unlock it in Deceptions Krypt. Or, you knowjust look it up on YouTube now.

Revenant Jax

Mortal Kombat X (2015)

The Revenant skins arent all that impressive, really. Like, did anyone really see Liu Kang, Kitana, and Jax when they were glowing zombies and thought, Yeah, I wanna get that as a skin? Doubt it, but if you wanted Revenant Jax specifically, you were going to have to work your ass off for it. The Revenant skin for Jax requires you to achieve fifteen consecutive Double Flawless Victories. Do you know what that means? Fifteen fights of two rounds each where you take no damage and employ no blocking. And knowing how aggressive MKXs AI isthis is pain. Sheer pain.

Bandage Mileena

Mortal Kombat (2011)

Tower Challenge 300 makes any Mortal Kombat fan shudder, and it is the only way you get to play as an almost naked Mileenafor whatever thats worth. To unlock the costume Tower Challenge 300 demands you fight Goro, Kintaro, Mileena, and Shao Kahn with only a single health bar. Each fight lasts only one round, and Shao Kahn will even enforce random modifiers in the middle of each fight. So, may the Gods have mercy on you if he triggers the No Blocking modifier. Hope the skimpy attire is worth the migraine!

Ultimate EJB Menu

Various

Consider it an unlockable. Consider it a cheat code. Either way, this is practically impossible for most people to do. The Ultimate EJB Menu went undiscovered for decades before someone managed to find it across Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in 2016. Found in the arcade versions of these games, these menus gave the user almost complete control over how the cabinet functioned. Between running diagnostics to enabling secret characters to showing animations and minigames, almost each games secrets were exposed in these menus. And the only way you could access them was by quickly inputting very extensive codes within a very short window.
