The Marvel machine will never stop! Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’ll be going through every upcoming Marvel movie & TV show. For this video, we won’t just be discussing the ever-expanding MCU, but also the Marvel projects currently in the works at Fox and Sony. Since some of these projects are very early in development, not all of them have confirmed release dates, and even the ones that do are subject to change. As of early 2019, though, all of these projects are on the table with several being just around the corner. “Captain Marvel” Release Date: March 8, 2019 [U.S.] Carol Danvers’ origin story not only marks the penultimate event in the MCU’s third phase, but also the first female-led film in this cinematic universe. Oscar-winner Brie Larson stars as Captain Marvel, a Starforce soldier who unravels her mysterious connection to Earth in the midst of a conflict between the Kree and Skrull alien races. Traveling back to the mid-90s, the film additionally provides greater insight into fan favorites like Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. “Avengers: Endgame” Release Date: April 26, 2019 [U.S.] There’s little doubt that several fallen heroes will rebound from the snap heard round the universe in “Infinity War,” but “Avengers: Endgame” is still largely clouded in mystery. How will Thanos be defeated? How does Captain Marvel tie into everything? Is this the end of the line for Iron Man, Cap, and the other OG Avengers? In any case, we’re in store for a climactic cinematic event over a decade in the making. “Dark Phoenix” Release Date: June 7, 2019 [U.S.] Although the Disney acquisition is supposed to go through in early 2019, Fox still has a few more “X-Men” movies in the pipeline. In 2019, we can count on seeing “The New Mutants” and “Dark Phoenix,” both of which have endured delays. While skeptical, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that “Dark Phoenix” will compensate for the dumpster fire that was “The Last Stand,” finally giving this legendary “X-Men” story its due. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” Release Date: July 5, 2019 [U.S.] Peter Parker, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill will return in “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which, according to Kevin Feige, is set shortly after “Avengers: Endgame.” The sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” takes Peter and his classmates on a European vacation. The Eurotrip is anything but smooth sailing, however, as Peter clashes with the villainous Elementals. Peter is thus forced to team up with Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, whose comic book counterpart always had a few tricks up his sleeve. Disney+ Shows Release Date: Fall 2019 The Netflix/Marvel era may be drawing to a close, but the MCU will continue to thrive on the small screen via Disney+, which launches in 2019. Marvel has several original shows planned for the streaming service, including “The Vision and Scarlet Witch,” a Falcon/Winter Soldier crossover, and a Loki series with Tom Hiddleston likely returning. Rumors also indicate we could see shows centered on Hawkeye and Lady Sif, who was MIA in “Thor: Ragnarok.” “Gambit” Release Date: March 2020 “Gambit” is another “X-Men” film that’s been on Fox’s to-do list for a while. The spinoff has changed numerous hands over the years, from Rupert Wyatt, to Doug Liman, to Gore Verbinski. As of writing, the project is currently slated for a 2020 release with Channing Tatum still playing the card-wielding mutant, although a director has yet to be secured. Rumors suggest that the actor may even step up to direct the film himself. Having gone to development hell and back again, let’s hope this gambit ultimately pays off. “Black Widow” Release Date: May, 2020 Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been interested in getting a standalone Black Widow movie off the ground since the character first appeared in “Iron Man 2.” It might’ve taken nearly a decade, but a “Black Widow” spinoff is eyeing a 2020 release with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff. Cate Shortland is set to direct the long-awaited film, which reportedly takes place before the first “Avengers.” “Black Panther 2” Release Date: February 2021 “Black Panther” became the highest-grossing MCU movie ever domestically, as well as the first comic book superhero movie to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. So, a sequel was inevitable, even after Thanos snapped his fingers. While Ryan Coogler is writing and directing the sequel, the plot has otherwise been kept under wraps. For all we know, T'Challa might not even return as Black Panther, instead passing the mantle to his sister Shuri. “Doctor Strange 2” Release Date: May 2021 Doctor Strange is yet another character who bit the dust in “Infinity War,” but it appears the Sorcerer Supreme has a few more tricks up his sleeve. In late 2018, it was confirmed that Scott Derrickson is directing the sequel to his 2016 film. Although a screenwriter has yet to be enlisted, the sequel will reportedly see the returns of Benedict Cumberbatch and hopefully Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. “Eternals” Release Date: 2020/ 2021 The Eternals are godlike beings who were created by the alien Celestials to protect Earth. The Celestials are also responsible for creating the Deviants, grotesque creatures locked in an enduring conflict with the Eternals. In 2018, it was announced that Chloe Zhao of “The Rider” was directing an “Eternals” movie with a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. It’s clear that the MCU is headed for some cosmic changes, making “Eternals” an essential stepping stone. “Shang-Chi” Release Date: February 2022 Fans have been eager to see more Asian representation in the MCU, especially after the casting controversy surrounding Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One. Just as “Black Panther” was a cultural milestone, it appears Marvel is continuing their push for diversity with “Shang-Chi,” the MCU’s first film featuring an Asian protagonist. Chinese-American Dave Callaham will write the script with the studio searching for an Asian or Asian-American director. Now, who should play the Master of Kung Fu? “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” Release Date: TBA The third installment in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise was originally slated for a 2020 release. Marvel hit the brakes, however, after writer/director James Gunn was fired due to inappropriate tweets. Reports indicate production should resume in February 2021 and Gunn’s script will likely be used, something actor Dave Bautista insisted upon. As for who’ll direct, Dee Rees, Michelle MacLaren, S.J. Clarkson, and Jane Campion have all been rumored, although nothing’s set in stone. “X-Force” Release Date: TBA “Deadpool 2” set the stage for an X-Force movie, which appears to be moving forward even in the midst of the Disney-Fox merger. In addition to Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz will reportedly reprise their roles as Cable and Domino, respectively. It’s also been reported that Drew Goddard is writing and directing with a hard-R rating intended. Will Deadpool’s next team be with the Avengers, though? “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” Sequel Release Date: TBA The Oscar-nominated “Into the Spider-Verse” has been praised as one of – if not the best – “Spider-Man” movie to date. Sony had so much faith in this instant classic that they officially greenlit a sequel a month before the film’s release. While still in early development, the sequel will once again revolve around Miles Morales. Sony is also opening the door for spinoffs, including an all-female film featuring Spider-Gwen and several other women with Spidey abilities. “Venom 2” Release Date: TBA While not critically acclaimed, “Venom” became an audience favorite and box office success, with a sequel being quickly confirmed. Tom Hardy is already signed up for a potential “Venom” trilogy and Michelle Williams is also expected to return as Anne Weying. If Woody Harrelson’s mid-credits cameo was any indication, the “Venom” sequel is sure to be full of Carnage. At this rate, Sony will soon have their own universe of Marvel characters, including an eventual Morbius movie starring Jared Leto.
