Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re ranking every single Five Nights at Freddy’s game! Freddy Fazbear and friends have been scaring the pants off of us for almost a decade now, and each new game managed to reinvent the franchise’s formula again and again. But in the end, only one deserves a pizza party made for a king! Which game in the FNaF franchise is your favorite? Share with us in the comments below!

#8: “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” (2015)

Top 10 Five Nights At Freddy's Easter Eggs

Just because we’re starting the list with it doesn’t mean we’re saying “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” is a bad game. It does present its own unique balance of keeping an eye on animatronics and completing menial tasks. It also boasts a unique setting where Fazbear Entertainment has, more or less, embraced its dark past and is trying to rebrand itself as a horror attraction. What gets it so low on the list is how the gameplay eventually dilutes into cheesing Springtrap with fake sounds while dealing with the obnoxious Phantom animatronics. It’s really a matter of how quickly you can regain your bearings before Springtrap is on the move again. At least it answered some questions about the mysterious Purple Guy.

#7: “Five Nights at Freddy’s 4” (2015)

The fourth entry in the franchise was arguably the most frightening in terms of the design of the animatronics. Never before has a child’s imagination been effectively portrayed in such a terrifying light! What also made it interesting was how the player was forced to rely on sound rather than visuals to determine how close animatronics were. Unfortunately, the game gets pretty overwhelming in Nights 4 and 5 due to how quickly Nightmare Foxy and Nightmare Freddy can spawn in. Eventually, it becomes a clumsy, frantic dance that feels a tad luck-dependent.

#6: “Ultimate Custom Night” (2018)

Brutally Honest Smash Ultimate Review

This one was basically a single game mode released for free, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. “Ultimate Custom Night” was one of the coolest ideas from the franchise, allowing the player to build their own insanely difficult FNaF. Now, you can include nearly any character in the franchise to make your night as easy or difficult to your heart’s content! The best part? Each animatronic comes with its own unique mechanics and jumpscares. You can ask Rockstar Foxy for help, keep an eye on Toy Freddy as he plays a game, or let Dee Dee randomly throw in more animatronics to spice things up! Basically, this was FNaF with a ton of replay value!

#5: “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location” (2016)

“Sister Location” was intriguing in how it deviated from the core gameplay in favor of telling a more narrative-driven story. And surprisingly, it worked rather well! “Sister Location” features a story that’s constantly unsettling with a little bit of dark humor to lighten the mood. The voice acting and music brought the whole thing together, but as much as we’d like to put it higher on the list, the game does suffer from its wildcard style. Gameplay and mechanics are constantly changing, meaning players will need to adapt on the fly. It’s a great game, but it’s one that demands more effort than most would be willing to put in.

#4: “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (2014)

Every Assassin's Creed Game RANKED

The game that started it all is still a riot to play...and watch the inexperienced play. When it first launched in 2014, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” had us enthralled with its unique take on the horror gaming genre, featuring a seemingly banal setting made incredibly creepy. Not only did it make us paranoid of a certain pizza-eating mouse, but the game enamored us with its eerie atmosphere, hidden narrative, and secrets. To this day, it’s still fun to play, even if you’ve seen all the game has to offer.

#3: “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator” (2017)

If there was one game in the series that defined the phrase “bait and switch”, it was “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator”. What starts out as an innocent minigame about Freddy serving pizza quickly turns into a management sim with a disturbing twist. As the owner of a new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza franchise, it’s your job to expand and improve your establishment by purchasing arcade games and animatronics. This was a turn we never expected the franchise to take, but it did so with its creepy atmosphere, frightening animatronics, and clever hints at dark secrets.

#2: “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” (2014)

10 Things Only REAL Fans Noticed In The FNAF Movie

Whereas the first “Five Nights at Freddy’s” helped launch a new phenomena of the internet, its sequel showed the world that this wasn’t just a fad. “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” was a significant moment in the IP’s history, showing how different mechanics could be implemented into the original’s bread and butter. On top of that, you had more animatronics coming for your head, arguably making this the hardest game in the entire franchise. There were also more mysteries added, giving more life to the lore and sending the fanbase into a frenzy.

#1: “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted” (2019)

Also in:

Every Video Game Generation Ranked

Some may dismiss this “a VR collection of the first three games”, but there’s more to “Help Wanted” than just the VR gimmick. While “Help Wanted” does indeed put an interactive spin on the first three games, it does plenty more for us to count it as a wholly original game. You can now take part in additional missions like repairing the air vents with Mangle lurking around, or get up close and personal with the animatronics by repairing them. You can also find hidden tapes to learn about one of the earliest incidents at the restaurant, as well as coins to buy interactive toys. Needless to say, “Help Wanted” is the game every FNaF fan must play!
