While not the most infamous spot for cheaters, the “Call of Duty” games have had their share since “Modern Warfare 2” exploded onto the scene in 2009. Common cheats include aimbots and the ability to see through walls - a fast way to ruin an evening of gaming. Unfortunately, the cheating hasn’t let up since. As soon as “Warzone” dropped in March 2020, the game saw massive surges of cheaters, leading to seventy thousand bans as of April 2020! And we’re not just talking about your standard aimbot and wall hacks here - we’re talking aimbots that can headshot players in the sky! Infinity Ward has corralled suspected cheaters into a special server where they can only play with their own kind.

Fair warning - you’re going to see quite a few shooters on this list. In terms of rampant cheating, “Counter-Strike” has arguably been just as bad as, if not worse than, “Call of Duty”. The scene already has a reputation for toxic players, and the numbers of cheaters on the servers drags the community down further. Since “Global Offensive” launched in 2012, the game has banned more than six hundred thousand accounts! Things got especially bad when the game became free-to-play in 2018, and the new “Trusted Mode” hasn’t improved matters - with players reportedly running into even MORE cheaters.

What was expected to be one of the biggest blunders in 2019 quickly became one of the best new games in the genre. “Apex Legends” brought a plethora of improvements to the battle royale formula ... but with that came a mob of hackers and cheaters. While developer Respawn Entertainment has banned hundreds of thousands of players, and put others on their own server, the problem continues to this very day, and some players feel that Respawn isn't doing enough to clean the scene. Hey, we'd be a little pissed off, too, if some of the top players were caught in the act!

Over the past decade, the game has seen players running rampant with cheating scripts that grant them auto-aim and wall opacity abilities. And really, those two just scratch the surface - there are also cheats like Backtrack, Custom Item Schema, Triggerbots … the list goes on! As if this wasn’t bad enough, “Team Fortress 2” has also had a problem with spam bots spouting racist and homophobic slurs. Plus, a source code leak in April 2020 allegedly exposed players to malware - although Valve has disputed this. Needless to say, it’s been an absolute mess.

You want to know how bad cheating has become in PUBG? Well, let’s put it this way - the anti-cheat team often bans over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND cheaters a WEEK! That isn’t coming from some random estimate either; this is coming from PUBG_Hawkinz, the game’s community manager. In December 2019, one Reddit user made a post claiming that the game was being abandoned by almost everyone, including the developers. Hawkinz made a lengthy response, and in it, revealed the numbers. In July 2020, the developers introduced a new anti-cheat initiative, so maybe this will help restore integrity in the game?

Stories about new cheats and well-known “Fortnite” players being caught cheating are fairly common. In fact, some players allege that cheating in tournaments is prevalent. Cheaters should beware; some cheats contain malware, and one cheat pack, Syrk, was actually just ransomware in disguise. At this point, we’re not sure why we’re still surprised at each new story.
