7 Things You Should Know About Call of Duty: Black Ops

The legendary franchise is back for its most gritty and intense entry to date. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring the 7 things you should know about Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Number 1: Plot and Locations

As the 7th installment of the legendary franchise, Black Ops is Treyarch’s follow-up to their previous entry ‘World At War.’ In this spiritual successor, you control Mason and Hudson, two ‘Studies and Observations Group Operatives’ that are sent behind enemy lines throughout various time periods of the Cold War.

As these two front line foot soldiers, you will engage the enemy at a variety of well-known Cold War locales from around the globe. These include Russia, Laos, Cuba and Vietnam.

Number 2: Health and Stealth

In Black Ops, health packs are not a concern. Instead, the game employs the use of a regenerating health bar to keep the action moving.

Instead of worrying about locating first aid, the game’s focus is on having you expertly use its three combat positions. These include standing, crouching and lying in the prone position. Not only vital for maintaining stealth on the battlefield, the use of crouching and proning dramatically affect your speed and accuracy when taking aim at an enemy.

Number 3: Single-Player Campaign

Assuming the role of various characters over the course of the campaign, you will fight from different perspectives. With a cinematic feel, it is filled with scripted events tat employ the dramatic use of bullet time.

As you might expect, each mission has you carry out a series of objectives, which are made visible on the heads-up display. This will mark the direction and distance of your goals.

Thankfully, you will not always be alone. You will fight alongside a legion of AI controlled soldiers. Unfortunately, these troops cannot be ordered direct commands.

Number 4: Combat and Vehicles

Making use of ballistic knives for deadly melee attacks; you will get to operate a wide- range of standard black ops weaponry. In addition to these, you will get to fire a crossbow that makes use of explosive ammunition. While the weapons are mostly what you would expect, it’s how they brutally tear apart enemies with gore and dismemberment, which makes this game stand out among the franchise.

And despite primarily being a first-person shooter, several missions will have you pilot a Hind Helicopter and an SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance craft.

Number 5: Multiplayer, Experience Points and Credit

Continuing to provide an addictive online experience, Black Ops boasts a wide array of multiplayer modes and features. In addition to the usual assortment of modes, Black Ops introduces new and innovative ‘Wager Matches’, which allow you to bet your credits in a series of free-for-all game modes. Since much of the progression through the game will be regulated by these credits, expect this new mode to play a significant role in the online experience.

And as always, playing matches will earn you experience points that will go towards leveling up. As you reach new levels, you will unlock new things- like new weapons, camouflage, and the ability to select which perk you want to equip.

Number 6: Create A Class 2.0

Allowing you the ability to tweak more then just your weapon and specialization choices at the loadout screen, Black Ops goes one step farther with the use of ‘Create A Class 2.0.’ An expansion from the version that debuted in Call of Duty 4, players can now fully customize their appearance and add personalized face paint on their characters.

Plus, you can even change the design of your gun’s laser sight from a red dot to a unique shape.

Number 7: Game Engine and 3D

Running on an advanced version of the World at War engine, the game sports 60 frames per second and the same streaming texture technology found in Modern Warfare 2, allowing for bigger levels and advanced lighting effects.

In addition to this, the engine has been refined to allow for breathtaking stereoscopic 3D display on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Conclusion:

Fans of the franchise, and newcomers alike, will feel the Call of Duty as they delve into one of the most stunning and interactive online combat experiences available for all major platforms.
