Victory on the Green

He’s done it again! On April 12th, Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy won his second consecutive Masters tournament, narrowly defeating runner-up Scottie Scheffler by a single stroke. David Cannon’s photo shows McIlroy and spectators celebrating his victorious putt. The joy radiating from this image is boosted further by knowing that McIlroy is now one of only four golfers to win the coveted green jacket two years in a row.

Special Delivery

Fast food being delivered to someone usually isn’t newsworthy, usually. On April 13th, DoorDash delivery driver Sharon Simmons brought a McDonald’s order to the White House. This was for a staged photo op with President Donald Trump to promote the “No Tax on Tips” policy. Win McNamee’s photo shows Simmons, wearing a “DoorDash Grandma” t-shirt, with the President right in front of the Oval Office. No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, this is an unforgettable image.

Let it Byrne

Same as it ever was? The first weekend of the 2026 Coachella Festival took place this past week, with widely-discussed headlining performances from pop stars Justin Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter. However, we’re going to highlight an artist whose legacy goes back much further. On April 11th, 73-year-old Talking Heads frontman David Byrne delivered a sensational, energetic set. Frazer Harrison’s photo of Byrne and his backup performers clad in orange is a dynamic showcase of a legend at work.

A Damning Testimony

Eric Swalwell's campaign for governor of California took a disturbing turn when multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against the congressman came out. While Swalwell has denied the charges, he has suspended his campaign and resigned from Congress. On April 14th, Lonna Drewes, one of his accusers, held a press conference in Beverly Hills, detailing what Swalwell allegedly did to her. Justin Sullivan’s photo shows Drewes, her attorney, Lisa Bloom, and a picture of Drewes and Swalwell. What comes next of this shocking scandal remains to be seen.

An Unspeakable Tragedy

On April 16th, news broke that former Virginia Lieutenant Governor, Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina, were found dead in their home. The couple were reportedly in the early stages of divorce, and Fairfax apparently killed Cerina before taking his own life. This all allegedly happened while their teenage children were home, with their son calling 911. Alex Wong’s photo of the house being secured as a crime scene is a chilling image of the aftermath of a horrifying incident.

Generational Unity

Though they may have been born 50 years apart, Senator Bernie Sanders and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani have plenty in common when it comes to their belief in democratic socialism. On April 12th, at Mamdani’s address to mark his first 100 days in office, Sanders made a surprise appearance to swear in the mayor and praise his accomplishments thus far. Matthew Hoen’s photo of Mamdani, Sanders, and supporters holding signs and taking cell phone pics shows the power of a political movement across generations.

Flower Power

Nothing like stopping to smell the roses...and more! On April 11th, Keukenhof, one of the world's biggest flower gardens, located in the Netherlands, opened for its 77th season. Open for eight weeks per year, it's a must-see for any true flower lover. Abdullah Asiran’s photo of rows of colorful tulips capture their gorgeous vibrancy. It’s the next best thing to being able to experience this beautifully cultivated display in person.

Taking Action

On April 14th and 15th, two separate school shootings occurred in the Turkish municipalities of Siverek and Onikişubat, with the latter being the deadliest school shooting in Turkey’s history. That same day, a protest was held by various educational unions in front of the Ministry of National Education headquarters in Ankara. Adem Altan’s photo shows demonstrators holding a banner reading "We will not surrender our schools to violence.” It speaks to the combination of grief, fury, and determination in response to such a traumatizing time for a nation.

A New Era for Hungary

On April 12th, after 16 years in power, Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán was defeated in a landslide in the 2026 parliamentary election by Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar. Though Magyar has not yet been officially confirmed as the new prime minister, his decisive victory speaks to a desire for change amongst the country’s voters. Attila Husejnow’s photo of Magyar waving the Hungarian flag after his victory speech in Budapest is a stirring reminder that, no matter what some might say, voting does make a difference.

Artemis II Return

Talk about making a splash! On April 10th, the Artemis II crew returned to Earth following a successful 9-day lunar flyby mission. The Orion spacecraft landed in the Pacific Ocean, as shown in this photo, taken by NASA photographer Bill Ingalls. The brave crew members were then transported via helicopter to the USS John P. Murtha Naval ship for a post-flight evaluation. It’s a beautiful snapshot of an incredible moment that makes one proud to be a part of humanity.
