Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Amazon Prime

Sure the free shipping is great and all… but there’s so much more! Welcome to, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Amazon Prime.

For this list, we’ll be looking at perks and benefits included in an Amazon Prime account that many subscribers tend to overlook. Please note, as Amazon Prime benefits are not the same in all regions, this list will be discussing the subscription service as offered in the United States.

#5: Twitch Prime

If you’re into gaming then this live-streaming service obviously needs no introduction. But did you know that linking to an Amazon Prime account will automatically upgrade you to Twitch Prime? Though Twitch is already a “free” service, the platform is supported by ad revenue, which means that as a viewer, you’re forced to sit through ads. Not so with Twitch Prime! Plus, this premium Twitch experience also entitles you to discounts when you pre-order physical copies of new games, as well as bonus content for certain titles. Alone, it might not warrant the cost of Amazon Prime, but as an added bonus? That’s a pretty sweet perk.

#4: Skip the Rush Shipping and Earn Rewards

One of the biggest motivators for getting an Amazon Prime subscription is the free rush shipping. Once you have an account, you’ll soon find yourself always clicking “2 Day Free Shipping” by default. But do you always need your order in two days time? If it’s a gift for a birthday that’s two months away, or some other non-essential, chances are, no... you don’t. So to encourage subscribers to lighten their rush workload, Amazon has begun offering a reward system. Basically, if you accept a longer delivery window, you can get small discounts or credits towards specific future purchases.

#3: Earn Credit with Cashback Programs

Speaking of rewards that add up… with the Amazon Prime Visa Card, you get 5% back on groceries bought at Whole Foods in certain regions. But if you’re willing to add an Amazon Credit Card to your wallet, there’s even more potential savings to be had. With the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, offered exclusively to Prime members, you get 5% back on ALL of your Amazon purchases, 2% back on purchases made at gas stations, drugstores and restaurants, and 1% on ALL purchases in the form of Amazon credit. This might not be right for the casual Amazon user, but if you do most of your shopping on Amazon… it’s quite the offer.

#2: Free Storage for Your Photos

It’s been estimated that that there are 90 million Amazon Prime subscribers in the United States alone, and we’re betting that there are a lot of them that are kicking themselves for never having used this feature. Prime Photos is part of Amazon Drive - their online storage system. As part of your membership, you get 5GB of online storage whichyou can use for documents, video, etc. But… in a bid to become your go to place for photo printing Amazon also invites you to store all of your digital photos online on their servers. Seriously, where else are you going to be able to store unlimited uncompressed photos online for free?

#1: Free E-books

Think of Prime Reading like an online library meets Netflix. They don’t have all the titles, but they do offer a nice selection of popular books, and the catalogue changes regularly ensuring that, even if they don’t always have the specific book you want, they’re sure to have something that you’ll be happy reading. What’s really exciting is that some of these even come with an audiobook version, which you can switch back and forth to as needed. So yeah… free E-books AND audiobooks. Add to that the “first reads” program, which lets you download editor’s picks before publication… and Amazon Prime becomes a must-have for book lovers.
