Best one because the mystery holds the answer to what these guys are into besides fixing boxing matches. Drugs dont glow, gold doesnt glow. Also, the eager curiosity of amanda plummers character asking "what is it?" makes us want to know even more.

Its not relevant to the plot, hes already decided who he is and by the time we meet him hes a master manipulator of his own emotions.

The original script had Alex narrating that he more or less grew out of that phase. Needless to say, everyone thought would be better if they ended before that.
