#10: What Comes After Winter?
The “Winter is Coming” tagline is a bit of a big deal in “Game of Thrones”. It’s a Stark family motto, but it’s also become a common real-world phrase and we’ve been hearing about it since day one. Now winter is here (literally, figuratively and in every other way) and it’s bringing lots of peril. But, what happens next? A quick look at any calendar tells us that Spring is just around the corner, but the Westeros winters can last for years, so will anyone be alive to see it? And will there be any of the hope and optimism you’d typically associate with Spring? Sometimes, it’s hard to imagine so.
#9: Will Sansa Bring the Fight to Cersei?
Now, there are a lot of people who have an axe to grind with Cersei Lannister, but possibly none more so than Sansa Stark – who was held prisoner for more than two seasons at King’s Landing. Recently, having learned from (and then subsequently dispatched) Petyr Baelish, Sansa has been demonstrating her ruthless prowess as a leader and a tactician. So, considering her character development and her tendency to butt heads with Jon Snow, might Sansa amass an army of her own to take on King’s Landing? Or, dare we dream, is she planning some clever variation of the Red Wedding where it’s her side doing the slaughtering?
#8: What Will Happen to Cersei’s Baby?
Having lost all of her offspring so far, it’s perhaps no surprise that Cersei is feeling a wee bit protective of her unborn child. The question is... how is this newest arrival going to affect things? And what will it mean for the Lannisters? For all her faults (and there have been quite a few) Cersei has always shown herself to be a devoted mother. So, if anything goes wrong while she’s expecting – and in “Game of Thrones” it very well may do – then she could be tipped over the edge.
#7: How Will Theon Save Yara?
It’s understandable if you’re not exactly rooting for Theon. He’s done some pretty horrible things, including but not limited to killing two boys and taking Winterfell from the Starks... But his brave sister surely deserves to be saved after being taken prisoner. That said, how?! Theon and Yara’s insane and evil pirate uncle Euron holds her captive, and he’s a hugely influential and expedient sort – who also happens to command the largest naval force in Westeros. So, whatever your plan is, Theon, we can’t wait to find out.
#6: Is Samwell Tarly the Ultimate Dark Horse?
This hapless member of the Night’s Watch is just full of surprises. Not only was he the first person to kill a White Walker but he’s helped cure Jorah Mormont from grayscale and survived far more battles than we ever would have predicted. Somehow, Samwell keeps on finding just enough courage to pull through. Then again, how’s he going to react when he finds out that Daenerys killed his brother and father with dragon fire? Could it be that all his accumulated knowledge from training as a maester and experience from fighting at the wall will help him prepare the ultimate revenge? Or with knowledge has he gained the wisdom to see beyond such things?
#5: What Will Jaime Do Next?
Jaime Lannister started off as a fairly awful person, crippling a child to hide his incestuous relationship with his sister. But, his story of redemption – shown through his struggle over family loyalty, and his relatively honourable behaviour in later seasons – has seen him become an unlikely fan favourite. And, now that he and Cersei have finally parted on bad terms, it begs the question, where does he go from here? After stating that he intends to go North does that mean he’s finally switched sides for good? Or is there treachery a brewing?
#4: There’s an Undead Dragon on The Loose, Now What?
Hoo mama, was this ever a doozy of a moment. Not only did we get to see that colossal wall of ice come crashing down but it was done so by a newly created ice zombie dragon! After one of Daenerys’ three dragons was brought down by the Night King it was promptly brought back to life, breathing blue fire. So, what the heck happens next? Will this dragon be even harder to kill? Is it even more dangerous than before? Are Jon and Dany going to ride the other two dragons into what would be the ultimate in epic battles? Our breath is well and truly bated.
#3: Will Arya Complete Her List?
This plotline has been going on for quite some time. After Arya witnesses her father’s death and escapes the Lannisters she swears bloody vengeance. She repeats a list of names, over and over, of all the people that she vows to kill. And, as the show has progressed some of those characters have been dispatched. But, her personal quest it’s still incomplete. For one, Cersei is still alive. But, considering so many want Cersei dead, will Arya be able to beat out the competition to become the one to bring about her end?
#2: What of Dany, Jon and the Targaryen Bloodline?
This one’s pretty huge. We now know that Jon Snow is a Targaryen, and the rightful king of Westeros. And that Daenerys is his aunt. But, both of these facts are unknown to the characters themselves, at this point. And, of course, they appear to be beginning a relationship. So, will this revelation divide the two or make them closer allies? Perhaps they won’t even find out about it… But then, what will happen to the Targaryen bloodline in general? Daenerys once believed she was the last and was unable to have children, but what if she’s now pregnant with Jon’s child?
#1: Who Is the Night King? And What’s he Planning?
The motivation of the White Walkers’ has always been shrouded in mystery. They convert the living into zombies and are hell bent on invading everything south of the wall, but why? To answer that question, it might help if we knew anything about their leader, the Night King. So far all we’ve ascertained is that the children of the forest sacrificed one of the first men, stabbing him with dragon glass, and turning him into a White Walker. Originally intended to protect their creators, they quickly turned against them. And (need we remind you again) but they now have a zombie dragon. Whoever’s in charge of all of that has quite a lot to answer for.
