Top 10 Ant & Dec Moments

From kids' TV to BGT, these boys have come a long way. Welcome to WatchMojo UK and today we'll be counting down our picks for the top 10 Ant and Dec moments!
For this list, we're celebrating the careers of one Britain's best double acts - Newcastle's finest, Ant and Dec.

#10: Paintballing
“Byker Grove” (1989-2006)
We begin way back in 1989, when everyone’s favourite Geordies were prominent cast members on “Byker Grove”. Ant played PJ while Dec played Duncan, and the pair became friends while filming. Ant was on the end of a nasty plot twist, however, when his character was blinded while paintballing against a rival youth club. But the worst part? That’d be Dec quickly realising that his buddy won’t be able to see. Watch his heart break.
#9: “We’re on the Ball” (2002)
It’s no secret that these two love their football, and they’re regulars in the crowd at Newcastle United. But Ant and Dec got an international call-up in 2002, entrusted with that year’s England World Cup song. “We’re on the Ball” followed fan favourites including “Three Lions” and “World in Motion”, and it was a more than memorable effort. A catchy hook, a comic video and all wrapped up with a failsafe plan to score - if only the results were as good as this tune.
#8: Chums: Ant Aid
“SMTV Live” (1998-2003)
If you were a ‘90s kid, your weekend probably started with “SMTV Live”. Ant, Dec and Cat Deeley hosted, cultivating chaos for your viewing pleasure. “Wonkey Donkey” will forever be a highlight, and the Pokefight with Westlife will never be forgotten, but we’ve chosen “Chums” as the best of the lot. A very thinly veiled parody of “Friends”, it was must-see madness. Ant Aid was its crowning glory though, with Dec building a pop super-group when Ant’s struck down with another eye-related problem. Altogether now, “Blink for Ant…”
#7: NTA Landmark Award (2014)
Award show acceptance speeches can be long, drawn-out and overly emotional affairs. But not with these boys. When Ant & Dec won the Landmark Award at the 2014 NTAs, they charmed the pants off of everyone. Having already bagged an Outstanding Contribution gong twelve years previously, they seemed genuinely shocked to be recognised again. Has there ever been a better selfie moment?
#6: The Deal of the Century
“Alien Autopsy” (2006)
Though best known for their small screen work, Ant & Dec are no strangers to feature films. Having briefly appeared in 2003’s “Love Actually”[1], they took the lead for “Alien Autopsy”, a 2006 sci-fi comedy based on the Roswell incident. In this scene, Dec plays Ray Santilli, a real-life filmmaker who, in 1995, really did claim to have lost footage of an alien autopsy. Suffice to say, it’s all very mysterious, but the movie impressed critics and fans.
#5: The Naked Chef
“Celebrity Juice” (2008-)
For the most part, Ant and Dec have enjoyed a fully family friendly career. But, then they went on “Celebrity Juice”. First, they’re split into separate teams, which is pretty unnerving. Then Dec tries his hand at a Wonkey Donkey remake. And then, this. Where to start? The premise of the game is simple enough, it’s the ridiculousness of what we’re seeing which is tricky to comprehend. That’s two national treasures blindfolded in a box with a naked woman. What will they think of next?
#4: Golden Buzzer: Jasmine Elcock
“Britain’s Got Talent” (2007-)
“Britain’s Got Talent” has always been one of Ant and Dec’s biggest gigs, but the invention of the Golden Buzzer in 2014 meant that the presenters could play an even greater part in proceedings. Over the years they’ve sent some spectacular acts through, including an impressionist, a dance troupe and a comic, but Jasmine Elcock gets our vote. The singer smashed her audition, leaving Ant on the verge of tears. Cue the confetti.
#3: Will Wins Pop Idol
“Pop Idol” (2001-03)
Before the likes of BGT or “I’m a Celeb”, there was the small matter of “Pop Idol”, a record-breaking talent search which had half the nation hooked in the early 2000s. The live final netted an audience of more than 13 million, and it fell to Ant & Dec to guide us through the tension. They did so admirably, of course, though both are clearly quite nervous. Will Young took the win, while Ant and Dec proved their prime-time credentials. It’s a stand-out slice of British TV history.
#2: Pranking Simon Cowell
“Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway” (2002-)
Shortly after “Pop Idol”, the boys set off with “Saturday Night Takeaway”. And pranks are a big part of this particular package. Countless celebs have fallen victim on the show. The Jeremy Kyle ruse was perfect, and Get Out of Me Ear with Louis Walsh was bananas, but nothing satisfies like seeing Simon Cowell duped. Ant and Dec audition for “American Idol”, nailing an alternative version of a Paula Abdul classic. Cowell seems to cotton on in the end, but the look on his face is priceless.
#1: “Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble” (1994)
It’s back to the beginning for today’s winner, when Ant and Dec were still PJ & Duncan, riding the post-Byker Grove wave. “Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble” was the duo’s third single from the first of three albums, and although the pair’s pop music career was reasonably short-lived, this song is still their calling card. They brought it back for the 100th episode of “CD:UK”, and reprised the record in 2013, scoring a number one and donating the royalties to charity. All superstars start somewhere, what better place than here?
