Welcome to GetMojo. We do the research so you donât have to. In this video weâre going head to head with two competing products to see which one is right for you!Â
Appleâs AirPods have become the gold standard for wireless earbuds since they were first introduced in 2016. Now in their second generation, theyâve proven to be extremely popular, and were taken to the next level with the release of the AirPods Pro in 2019. But which version should you get? Weâll be breaking down the pros and cons of each product to help you make your decision. Here we go!
Price
Unsurprisingly, the regular AirPods come out on top in this category. While theyâre by no means âcheapâ at $159 with a wired charging case, or $199 with a wireless charging case, the AirPods Pro cost $249 right out of the gate. For anyone whoâs on a budget or not concerned with extra bells and whistles, we recommend going with the standard AirPods. But if you do want to spend a bit more, what do you get for the extra money?
Winner: Airpods
Features
This is the category where the AirPods Pro shine because they actually do offer a considerable number of cool features over the standard model, somewhat justifying the higher price tag. The biggest difference is that the AirPods Pro offer active noise cancellation and adaptive EQ, which can greatly enhance your listening experience if youâre wearing your pods in a noisy environment. Theyâve also got a nifty pressure valve that can regulate air pressure in your ear for extra comfort. While basic AirPods are described as a âuniversal fitâ and cannot be altered, the Pro âpods offer a number of custom silicone eartips, allowing a more personalized fit for the shape of your ear. The Pros are also water- and sweat-resistant, making them the better choice for outdoor use or at the gym. The one area where the AirPods Pro do lag behind is battery life with up to 4 and a half hours of listening time per charge compared to the base modelâs 5 hours.
There are also many features that both models share, including the H1 chip introduced for the second generation AirPods. which allows for better connectivity, quicker response and the ability to have the âHey Siriâ feature active at all times. All models of AirPods also come with a charging case which can extend listening time to over 24 hours.
Winner: AirPods Pro
Wildcard Round
There are a number of miscellaneous categories where the AirPods Pro surpasses the standard AirPods. As you might imagine, being Apple products, build quality is solid for both versions. However, the added water resistance of the AirPods Pro makes them considerably more durable in wet situations.
As for sound quality, both models have generally favorable reviews, and Techradar claims they have âfairly similar sound quality with only minor differences in the soundstage / clarity.â That said, the Prosâ Adaptive EQ and active noise cancellation gives them the slight edge over the standard pods in the sound department.
Both models subscribe to Appleâs minimalist aesthetic, but the AirPods Pro are noticeably shorter and chunkier than their cousins. As a result, their charging case is also shorter and wider. And speaking of the charging cases, Apple offers custom engraving on both models with text or emojis, for those who want to stand out with a unique look.
Winner: AirPods Pro
Verdict:
Well, there you have it. If youâre able to shell out the extra money, weâd recommend going for the AirPods Pro. But, if youâre someone who doesnât want or need the extra features, the more affordable AirPods may be the ones for you.
