Ariana Grande finally released her new album “thank u, next” today and while it contains quite a few hits, it’s also been hit with multiple episodes of controversy. After sorting her way through a pile of criticism connected to one of the featured songs “7 Rings”, Ariana’s newest video drop for “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” is the latest hot topic on Twitter. The video features Ariana in a club, where she becomes enticed by a couple on the dancefloor and makes it her goal to break them up, seemingly due to an attraction to the guy, played by “Riverdale” star Charles Melton. But video ends with an unexpected twist: Ariana leaning in to kiss and steal his girlfriend!

Ariana Making a Statement About Her Sexuality?
Some fans were quick to believe that this surprise ending was Ariana’s way of officially coming out as bisexual. According to Elle, this theory was met with dismay from fans who accused the singer of queer-baiting, which is “subtly hinting at queer sexuality without actually owning it, in a ploy to appeal to LGBTQ audiences.” If this is the case, that strategy would not be in her best interest as the video may become quite offensive to the LGBTQ community, which makes up a great deal of her fan base.

Ariana Loving Herself?
Another theory is that this new single is in fact a powerful representation of Ariana demonstrating self-love after having been through a handful of stressful situations and failed relationships this past year. Fans noticed the striking resemblance between the girlfriend in the video to Ariana herself, from the high ponytail, defined highlight and over-sized hoodie, right down to the moon tattoo behind her ear.

Regardless of your opinion on the video’s twist ending, Ariana has not yet come out with a statement explaining the message and at this point the overwhelming response is supportive and positive, so clearly her fans are just excited to have a new anthem.
