Top 5 Mortal Kombat Fatalities

TOASTY!

While we have only been given a sneak peak of Mortal Kombat 11, it’s quite clear that Netherrealm Studios are really pushing the gore factor this time around. After all, the one minute trailer managed to cram in all manner of bloody blows, along with the hellish sight of Scorpion unleashing his own flaming version of the Flying Thunder God. One can only hope that some of these classic finishing moves find their way back to the screen when the Kombat commences anew!

#5: Kung Lao’s Hat Slice
“Mortal Kombat 2” (1993)

Kung Lao’s hat is one deadly weapon you don’t want to mess with, in Mortal Kombat 2 its shown to sharp and tough enough to slice through an entire human body from head to toe, leaving the victim in meaty pieces. Seems pulling out rabbits isn’t the only trick he can do with that sucker, as he draws some nefty inspiration from James Bond for this one. Besides that, Lao also uses his hat like a circular blade to draw his victim slowly towards it. Creative.

#1: Sub Zero’s Spine Rip
“Mortal Kombat 1” (1992)

Taking the number 1 spot is the most infamous fatality of all, Ripping off your opponent’s head with their spine still dangling is more than just a stylized decapitation. In Mortal Kombat’s early days this was shown as the prime example of the game’s violence, which lead to the birth of the ESRB ratings system. That’s right, this is the seminal act of videogame violence, the backbone of virtual gore, if you will.
