The Internet Is Scary Enough
If you’re looking to spice up your life with a few more scares, then the World Wide Web has more than enough sites and videos dedicated to giving viewers the heebie-jeebies. The most popular among these chilling tall tales that have emerged in recent years has been Creepypastas, to the point where their respective monsters have taken on lives of their own as online icons. Of course, it was only a matter of time until one of them got snatched up for the cinematic treatment. The jury is still out on whether the Slender Man film will be any good, we just hope that studios don’t decide to give some of these others a chance at the big screen, given just how badly they would flop.
#3: The Russian Sleep Experiment
The premise about a group of political prisoners being deprived of sleep until they go insane might sound like it has potential, until you realise that spending two hours watching a group of actors try to get some shut eye would most likely put you to sleep instead. Throwing in copious amounts of gore and the reveal that there are monsters beneath human consciousness would do little to relieve the boredom.
#2: Candle Cove
Since we now have horror films about the likes of Skype, the Dark Web and haunted school productions, it’s not hard to see how a flick about an old kids show would make the cut. Told through the format of a forum chat, the Creepypasta builds tension by revealing that upon reflection, those who watched this seemingly harmless show back in the day were actually baring witness to something far more demonic. As far as a visual adaptation goes, it’s more likely we’d end up with a crappier version of The Ring.
#1: Jeff the Killer
If there’s one murderous entity that could knock Slender off of his throne, it would be this Joker-wannabe. Insane in the membrane and famous for slicing up his own mouth, he often comes in at a close second when put alongside the most iconic Creepypasta figures. While he’s certainly unpleasant to look at, there’s nothing about his backstory or villainous actions that can separate him from your generic psycho-killer. Best to leave him to his popularity on the net as well as his weirdly colossal amount of fanart.
