“Dear White People” Season 2
Remember this show? The 2017 series whose initial trailer got downvoted to hell on YouTube and was accused of being racist toward white people? Well, turns out the show wasn’t actually racist, and was pretty good, good enough to earn a second season, which you should definitely check out this weekend. An insightful comedy series about a group of black students in a prestigious white ivy league school, season 2 delivers the same sharp, biting wit and insightful commentary as season 1, without being the anti-white propaganda many assumed it was.
“The Rain”
This Danish sci-fi series premieres on Netflix this weekend, and definitely lives up to the hype. Taking place six years after a virus living in rain water wiped out most of the population in Scandinavia, two siblings who have been living in a bunker the whole time, emerge and face the frightening new world. Ultimately its a story about post-apocalyptic survival, and how people act when they are completely free of social boundaries. “The Rain” is a realistic and emotional take on a familiar story, much of which is framed around finding answers to the origin of the virus, and possible salvation.
“Arrested Development” Season 4… Remixed
Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of the beloved comedy series “Arrested Development” announced that season 5 was on the way, and leading up to it, we’re getting a remixed version of season 4. Netflix’s revival of the show was hit and miss with many fans, as the new structure; longer episodes across a non-linear series made the Bluth family feel much more disconnected. The show’s creators are hoping to fix this by going back and turning the 15 longer episodes into 22 shorter ones, and re-editing the entire thing to be linear and coherent.
