Like any film or book, video games are so broad in range and genre that literally anyone can find something they like. Of course, given its marred history with certain demographics, its easy for the medium to be disregarded by those who don’t think that there’s anything in it for them. If that’s the case, then we cannot recommend the following ten titles highly enough, as in many ways they transcend all presumptions of what is expected from a video game, and deliver an experience that everybody should be able to at least casually enjoy.
#10: âMonument Valleyâ (2014)
Inspired by classic paintings, each level incorporates optical illusions along with differing mechanics that make for the most beautiful level designs. The perfect way to kill some time on your iPad!
#9: âAbzûâ (2016)
For those who arenât exactly fans of heavy dialogue and action and just want to explore, then this game offers you the chance to witness the beauty under the waves. Not to mention you can literally ride all manner of marine creatures at will. Who hasn’t wanted to jump the shark?
#8: âThe Telltale Games Libraryâ
Do you like stories with great characters and shocking twists? This company have taken everything from comic books, television shows, movies, even other video games and turned them into episodic marvels that will allow you to shape the narrative around you. You won’t look at zombies, werewolves or Batman the same away again!
#7: âGuitar Heroâ series (2005-15)
We all love music, but not all of us are musically talented. This selection of games allows you live out your rockstar dreams with makeshift instruments and a selection of classic songs. Best of luck tackling The Devil Went Down To Georgia!
#6: âWii Sportsâ (2006)
The perfect starting point for those that want an family-friendly introduction to video games, the Wii system and controller allows everyone to play all manner of sporty games with no fear of challenge. This one is bound to go down great at family gatherings.
#5: âJust Danceâ series (2009-)
Fancy yourself a professional? Just like to shimmy when no one is looking? Then this game is the one for you. The motion controls encourage both a fair challenge as well as a lot of laughs. With a catchy and fun soundtrack and a variety of moves to perfect, you’ll be having fun getting down low before you know it. Strut your stuff!
#4: âBrain Ageâ series (2005-)
While its in the business of entertaining its consumers, that’s not to say games can’t be useful. This series provides a variety of challenges to help stimulate players’ brains; assisting with numeracy skills as well as helping to strengthen your memory. That fact it’s also fun is just a bonus!
#3: âMario Kart 8â (2014)
The series that keeps on giving. Even if you aren’t a fan of the Mushroom Kingdom’s resident plumber or driving games in general, there’s just something about this game that keeps people clambering back for another round. Be it the addictive controls, the diverse level designs or just the thrill of launching a bomb at your foes, if you ever play just one of Mario’s games in your life, you might want to put this one at the top of your list.
#2: âTetrisâ (1984)
The tile-matching puzzle game to end all tile-matching puzzle games, the fact it is has endured for all these years is a testament to just how relevant and enjoyable it still is. We still get a kick of seeing those rows disappear!
#1: âThe Simsâ series (2000-)
If you’re looking for a game that offers absolute control, non-linear gameplay and zero pressure, then you can’t go wrong with the Sims. Want to mess around? Just create random characters and have the Grim Reaper pay them a visit. Want to construct the perfect family? You’ll end up having an experience you can pour an endless amount of hours into. Playing God has never been so much fun.
