Whether you have loved the franchise since its inception, are crazy about a specific entry or just a casual fan, the Final Fantasy name is one that is known the world over. Packed to the brim with vast, engrossing lore and characters whose hairstyles continue to defy the laws of physics, its no wonder that its led to the development of so many video games and animated features.
If anything, it was really only a matter of time before it became a theme part attraction.

How’d you like to come face-to-face with Sephiroth next time you visit Universal Studios? It’ll have to be the Japanese version for now, but the new teaser for their Final Fantasy ride is something else. What happens in it?
The VR-simulated experience takes you on a ride above Midgar. Suddenly Cloud and Sephiroth show up out of nowhere and start fighting each other above the city. The ride takes you on an aerial tour of the FFVII overworld and gets you close enough to a Chocobo herd that you could lick one.
The ride is part of Universal’s Cool Japan 2018 promotion, which introduces a bunch of rides and attractions based on popular Japanese characters. In addition to Final Fantasy, there will be a Detective Conan/Case Closed escape room where visitors have a limited amount of time to defuse a bomb (the room is a tie-in with the next Detective Conan movie which comes out later in 2018). There will also be a Sailor Moon 4D show, and a Monster Hunter VR ride making a repeat appearance from last year.
Be sure to check out the trailer below, but be warned, Sephiroth fans may lose their collective minds when it reveals just how close you can actually get to the One Winged Angel.
